How to Open a Bank Account in Mexico (step by step)
Hello¡ im a local and also a fashion designer, just fyi at santa teresita neighborhood theres a lot of higher quality fabric stores, my favorite its centro mercantil villanueva 😊
Don't move to Mexico if you expect people in Mexico to speak English to you. Just stay in the U.S.
Ajijic is a no Spanish needed area, right? I hear it’s a little more expensive there.
If I open a bank account as a Mexican citizen and not American will the bank report it to the IRS ?

I love Leon GTO living here 4 months of the year for over 20 years
Hello. May i ask if it is possible to get in contact with you?! i am looking to purchase something for my son but need help because we are in the USA. It is not a free favor. Thank You !
Wow. Meanwhile in the background it's like damn, were they just in a war? I mean was that the entire facade blown out of a department store 20 years ago or what?! AND she's scaring me to death because she a)is not looking where she's going and there are literally holes in the sidewalk that, if. you would step down into one of those, you wn;t be walkin for a long while.. oh and b) SHE'S THE ONLY FUCKIN PERSON ON THE STREET LOLOL she's talkin abouit her knew microphone and it's like bitch, was that gay shootin up?
just looked at your new house in newton, Iowa… talk about holes, y’all don’t even have sidewalks over there 😆 also you probably shouldn’t be posting your full address here lol
I'd be curious to know a budget range for a solo expat living a simple life in a small place that is walkable, i.e. Centro.
If you want to come live here, first of all look for "Murders in Guadalajara" You'll see that it's not as pretty as they say. For your safety, no.... and i not joking.
Nice! I want to ride around the entire city Centre and more!!
Ok I will you do the same turkey.
I too live in Arcos Vallarta, a block away from Kalido your fav coffee shop haha, nice tour of the neighborhood, neighbor
I’ve lived in GDL/Zapopan for almost 8 years, in Providencia 3rd section for 2 of those years. People should keep in mind that “Providencia” is HUGE and divided up into many “secciones” and a car would be suggested for most, at least IMO. Also, it seems peaceful, but there have been waves of street crime and robberies over my time here, a few very well known. Oh, and please don’t help normalize the term “Provi”, it is SO gringo, in a bad way.
I live most of the time in San Miguel de Allende, own a house in Patzcuaro and a beach condo in Ixtapa. I believe I have best what the world has to offer. While San Miguel and Patzcuaro are located over 2000 m above the sea level making spring temperatures more less all around the year, ixtapa is hot with very clean beaches. All those three places are expensive and that what I was looking for. Excellent restaurants, bars, lot of events, festivals and huge library in San Miguel with English language books.
Now we are talking 🥳🥳 That’s what I want to do when I visit there! However i would grab an electric bike instead!! Altitude man, altitude!! 😮😮😂😂
Great vid. Is Mexican street food OK for folks who don't like spicy food ? I was fine when I lived in Thailand as the Thais are accustomed to foreigners who don't want chilli in their meal but my days of eating Indian food (Vindaloo and Tandoori) are behind me. I assume that tourist towns are OK and I guess everywhere else is a case of knowing enough Spanish to avoid the 'aya caramba !' moments ;)
You generally add your own spice via the salsas! I always recommend trying a dab before adding it all over your food 🌮
@alex-wittman thanks - that's one less gotcha out of the way !
Wow 😮 😮!! Thanks for an excellent video and indeed a most informative and insightful view of a top tier city! Sectional city break down! The lost Atlantis of the new found world perhaps! Or did the Spaniards help to establish it back in 1500’s ??!! 😂😂
Good to hear you found this video so helpful!
I don't even think about immigration issues no matter where I travel. I have been living in Mexico for 4 years and all I do is travel somewhere out of country every 6 months for a week or so and then come back. In fact, from early 2021 to May 2023 I never left the country at all. When I tried to take a flight out of country at that time, the ticket agent sent me to the customs counter. They charged me an 800 pesos fine ($50.00 U.S.) and I was good to go. It is so easy to live in another country without all the immigration hassles.
It's definitely possibly to live in Mexico as a perpetual tourist (leaving every six months), but I remember in 2021 when immigration cracked down on that & actually denied entry to Mexico or only granted short stays to people with that kind of travel history.--it motivated a lot of people to get their residency in case that happens again.
Will the Cozumel office finally let you pay for three years instead of one at a time?
When you first get your temporary residency card, it's only valid for a year. Everyone has to renew it. But after that first year, you should be able to renew for up to three years. I hadn't heard of any offices not adhering to that.
New subscriber!! 😎👍 Planning to move there! Climate looks superb! The latitude location and flank by both seas to the left and right. Thank you.
Go home gringos
Nah we’re coming woohooooo can’t wait 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I love the Via Recreativa! All the volunteer help to pull it off on Sundays is mindblowing. I wish cities in the US would consider this family friendly event. GDL is too advanced for US thinking.
Those who are helping in the recreational path are students from the University of Guadalajara who do their social service to finish their studies.
Don't come to Guadalajara, we don't want more gringos or Canadians here, you just raise the prices of rent and general housing, you are a problem and not a solution, plus you don't learn to speak our language. Rain season is the worst in the country, and you do, in fact, need a car. Plus, it's the hometown of the cartel Jalisco, so go somewhere else.
Nah we we will though. We’re interested in coming to Guadalajara 🙌🙌
Yeah, this gentrificacion has to stop. No other way around.
I got a tiny receipt when I flew through MEX but I was never asked about it again, Oct 2024. I never got an FMM and was never asked for one.
Now the FMM is digital: mexicorelocationguide.com/digital-fmm-in-mexico/
I am filling out my application for permanent residency. Section III: Purpose and information of your travel. (3 choices) Less than 180 days. Between 180 days and 4 years. Definitive. Which is the correct answer?
If it’s for permanent, the correct answer is “definitive.”
"Learn Spanish if you are going to live in Mexico." I totally get it, and I 100% agree. If I were going to live in Mexico, or any foreign country for that matter, I'd put most of my first efforts into learning the language. But I think there is another truth here: Learning another language is REALLY difficult. It is NOT as easy as saying--"Learn Spanish." LOL It is NOT easy at all, and I say that as someone with a JD, and a Ph.D., who speaks English, Russian, and French fluently. For me, learning Russian and French was MUCH harder than academic studies. And what is funny about this is, most of the people doing these, "Live in a foreign country youtube videos, " did NOT have to learn this other language. They were born into it. How many would have even made the move if they had had to learn that particular new language?
Learning Spanish was the hardest thing I've ever done, but it was also the most worthwhile. It's not something I was born into--I've talked about the ups and downs of my language learning journey at length on this channel. The ability to speak another language, as I'm sure you will agree, isn't an all or nothing thing. Knowing some Spanish will be more helpful than knowing no Spanish at all. Knowing a lot of Spanish is more helpful than only knowing some Spanish. I standby that the more Spanish a person knows, the more at home they will feel in Mexico.
My neighbor has a Chinese passport and wants to buy a place in Mexico when he leaves the USA. After getting her Temporary or Permanent Residency and CURP and then her RFC using her Mexican apartment rental address, does she need basically the same documents except uses her Chinese passport since she does not have a USA passport, do you think? Is there someone or a link about the process for foreigners who are not USA citizens? Thank you. I personally am going to use the process you describe with my USA passport and papers.
I like the life videos
I also want to move to Mexico. I want to connect with a community first however, so I’m not totally alone. I will be coming by myself. So much to learn, so much to do…
It would be a huge challenge doing it on your own -- but you could do it. Challenge yourself!
Do you scuba dive? There is a large diving community between Playa del Carmen and Tulum.)))
I am looking for a move to mexico and could use and welcome any and all advice. Things i am looking for in no particular order. Snorkling Friendly Some night life Planning on becomming permanent resident Expat community is wrlcome, but planning on integrating into society Good medical support( zero current issues) Hiking is a plus Cooler is great Probably wont adapt super well to continuous high humidity Lol So i am a little crazy, but i am very adaptable and really looking forward to emigrating
I need a community there, to connect with so I’m not totally alone. I’m 70, but very healthy. Herein USA, I’m totally alone.
Alex, are you guys temporary resident or permanent?
I’m looking to drive to Mexico should I stop at Mexican consulate?
If this question is in regards to applying for a temporary or permanent visa, you will need to make an appointment ahead of time. Consulates don't accept walk-in visa applications. To find out how to make an appointment, go to the website of the consulate where you plan to apply and check out the visa requirements--some will ask you to make an appointment via a website, others via email.
I sent an email to Ivonne Pavaan over a week ago and never heard anything back. Is she still taking clients?
The best way to get in touch with her is sending a WhatsApp message to the number listed on the Host Relocation website: hostrelocation.com.mx/
We have a Green Check Conure, she band was removed by a vet a few years ago. I hope I don't have to have another band on.
Where can I find a facilitator I’m located in North Carolina?
The facilitator won't be able to help you with part of the process that you do at a consulate in the US, but they can help you with the second part of the process in Mexico. Ivonne (the facilitator I interviewed for this video) is a great option or you can find facilitator recommendations in expat Facebook groups.
Does it only rain on Gringos? Been in Guadalajara for 6 years and have hardly noticed the rain. ☔️

I have 2 questions. 1. If youre too young to retire, jow can an American get a job there? 2. I believe that in Europe, you need a different voltage outlet to charge your electronics. Does mexico use the same 12 volt outlet lile on the USA or do i need something different?
Many Americans living in Mexico opt for remote work as it generally pays better than in-person positions in Mexico. I recommend checking out the blog Making Sense of Cents if you're just starting to dip your toes into the world of remote work. To answer your second question, you won't need a special outlet in Mexico.
Great news! One thing I noticed when on the linked website for the Pieza, as I scrolled down the landing page, a translated pop up appears 😃
One thing I wanted to add....I have been living in various cities in Mexico since 2020. From March of 2020 until May of 2023 I did not leave the country of Mexico once. I have no expat status or anything like that. When I finally did leave 3 years later I was unsure about my staying to long in the country. Sure enough at the airport they sent me to customs and to my utter delight and surprise they only charged me 800 pesos ($50) as a fine and that was the only penalty I faced. So if you are planning on moving to Mexico don't worry about overstaying your welcome. Of course now I just travel somewhere out of the country every six months and I am good:).
I have a funny story about my move to Guadalajara. Initially I rented an airbnb for a month in a great little neighborhood in Zapopan. I loved the apartment and location but I had one problem. There were a lot of dogs in the neighborhood and lots of loud barking throughout the day and night. One day early on I tried a little experiment. I went on youtube and put on a video of a silent dog whistle and put it on high volume. To my amazement the dogs did react to it by slowly but surely quieting down. That was 3 years ago, and now I hear the odd bark here and there but the loud incessant barking has completely disappeared:).
That price for the move with all things considered was very reasonable. I have been living in Guadalajara for the last 3 years and I am now considering other locations here. I don't think I will ever leave this city. I love it here:).
Wait 5 minutes and Mexican laws will change!
Girl!!! As usual your videos are a lifesaver! Hubby has his renewal next month. He was going crazy looking for videos that would explain the process since this is so new. I’m like, hold up! I’m pretty sure Alex would have a video, and Alas! Thx girl!!! 💖
Love the focus on neighborhoods. You two brought such a good commentary as well. Great video!
Thanks for watching!
What a cute town. That burger looked amazing.
The best part is that it's so close to GDL! Only three hours away thanks to the new highway!
