THANK YOU. ❤ I get homesick every time I watch your GDL videos and I haven't even moved there yet! I've never felt more connected to a city in the whole world than I do in Guadalajara and I look forward to making it my home! ❤
You brought me joy from the first minute! I love the mall scene in Guadalajara! I love the vibe of so many places there. I didn’t think I’d like being in a big city (I moved away from Los Angeles as soon as I could), but I love it in GDL! There’s a sense of community within the city craziness. ❤ I can hardly wait to move there permanently 🎉
With the size of GDL, I think it's big enough that there are all kinds of people here but not so big that you're not going to find YOUR people. Glad to hear this vlog brought you joy 🥰
Thank you for a great video Alex! I love this kind of vlog style video. I get a cup of tea and settle in to watch. You make me want to live in Guadalajara! Thank you for sharing! 🥰
Hi Alex, thank you for the video. Do you think you can do a video of the layout of Guadalajara? When you mention all these cool places, do you have to go very far from your residence? Do you have to go through bad neighborhoods? Which are the bad neighborhoods? What is a nice walking area to take a date? Fav park? Where exactly would you go to ride bikes when the streets are closed? So basically, if I were to arrive in Guadalajara, where would you recommend that I stay and what could be a sample itinerary of nearby hotspots of good restaurants, coffee, shops, beautiful buildings, touristy things, etc.?
My dad retired to GDL and I visit him often. I absolutely LOVE this city!!! Although i was born in CDMX, I’ve grown up almost my entire life in the US (from 9 months). My plan is to do the same as my dad and retire to GDL but i plan to do so early…in my 50s. I’ve had a chance to try so many great restaurants and bars and One of my favorite upscale steakhouses that i HAVE to visit EVERYTIME i am in town is The Brick Steakhouse…the absolute BEST!!!
I love the Via Recreativa! All the volunteer help to pull it off on Sundays is mindblowing. I wish cities in the US would consider this family friendly event. GDL is too advanced for US thinking.
Alex; Very innovative shots from the Super Mercado and that bar" Roto" cool vibe, will have to check it out my next time back in GDL. I am a Permanent Resident, but have to live in the States for the moment. Probably be back down in November. Thanks
I posted your video of *that* 'hood you were raving about, to fam and local groups, and everyone replied with 100's of things they hate about it. Carry on.
@@alex-wittman , I did like seeing the nice restaurants & bars, impressive; I am curious as to how expensive it is when dining out at these type places ?
Oh the sjy of out city its such beatiful... btw, that weekend was the Independence day and they were so many night partys. I tought u would be in one of that, hehe
We really enjoy your videos. We've been in the Lake Chapala area for 18 months and I'd like to get out of the expat bubble and move to somewhere in the Guadalajara metropolitan area. Now that you've been there a while, I'd love to see a video about where you'd look if you were us and looking for a 2-bedroom/2-bath apartment/house with no car (but an electric bike) and a budget under $20,000 pesos a month for rent.
I'm coming down to both Lake Chapala and Guadalajara to check out in ten days. Was just in Cuenca and didn't work out. I don't know which one would be better for me as do like bigger cities and less gringos, but the lake looks interesting. Do you recommend to check out Guadalajara first, or the lake?
While I’m game to shop at the little tiendas or mom and pop thatched roof shop with questionable refrigeration, sometimes it’s nice to shop at a “swanky” grocery store…white bread🤤🤤🤤😂 Great video👍🏻✌🏻🤙🏻👏🏻
If i were to stay in CDMX for 3-6 months, would I get more value getting an airbnb or finding an apartment? Are there any advantages to getting an airbnb for an extended period of time?

@alex-wittman Hey will be flying out to Guadalajara Sep 25th tomorrow for a couple weeks. Originally born but just returning recently after 15yrs. What do you recommend as far as places to visit aside from el Centro, the mall here? Any info would be appreciated. Family lives near San Juan Bosco. Thank you for all you videos.
Sounds like someone didn't wear their retainer after middle school. The last 4 plus years, I've had my wisdom teeth out, a few rounds of gum surgery, then 2 plus years of Invisalign. I'm 60 and wanted to do this before retirement, and it's all done. (teeth and work) We're looking for a winter place for retirement in the next couple of years, so I watch your videos for obvious reasons. Keep up the good work...
I had lived in Querétaro for about five years & some friends I had met there moved to Guadalajara. A trip to visit them that was supposed to be 10 days end up being three weeks-I fell in love with the city & decided to move here not long after that. It’s been two years & I still love Guadalajara 🫶🏼
@@alex-wittman That is wonderful! My wife wants to live in MTY but the real estate prices are outrageous. In some cases you can buy more square feat in McAllen, TX than in MTY. However in Mexico you pay less property taxes and groceries are generally cheaper. We live on the Mexico side of the border which has its pros and cons. The cons are that its the border, the pros are also that its the border. We have access to the US within minutes which is beneficial to me. One question, how do you take care of jury duty back where you are from?
Alex, Love your videos, but from what we have seen so far GDL is a horror show like any other city like San Fran, Los Angeles, or Nueva York. Arrived in Colonia Americana yesterday afternoon. Walked 5.5 miles trying to find a Supermercado for some supplies. Nada. Best this town could do was 7 Eleven that had no wine, no bread, no cheese. Today we had an early appointment downtown at the INM for our resident cards. We saw graffiti, graffiti, homeless people, trash, graffiti and more trash. Walked 6.9 miles today, had a crappy yet expensive lunch in El Centro, bought crappy yet expensive groceries at Soreana, and saw more graffiti, more homeless people, and more trash. Tried to exchange some US Dollars for Mexican Pesos - not a chance at any bank! For us, GDL is the least attractive part of Mexico until now, and we hope tomorrow, when we will check out Tlaquepaque and some other parts of town, will hopefully be much better.
Guadalajara is definitely a city--there are good and bad elements just like any other place in the world. It's big & has a lot of different sides to it. Hopefully you will find something more to your personal taste!
On a positive note: we ended the day with a fabulous dinner at El Habanero Negro next door: fantastic food all the way, and the best Margaritas we ever had, at about 55% of the cost in the US. We’re gonna ride the Tube Line 3 all the way to Tlaquepaque today, for almost nothing.
Did you find out that you don't go to bank to exchange money? You go to what are called a Casa de Cambio or just use your debit card at an ATM to get pesos. Banks in Mexico are not like in the US where you just walk in and up to teller. Here you have to take a number and then sit for what could be an hour or longer just do any type of banking. Buena suerte!
Don’t wear jewelry, especially gold chains downtown Guadalajara. Thieves will steal it from your neck and jump on their motorcycle to escape. Downtown is getting very unsafe.
