The Every Day Carry (EDC) industry has grown enormously in the last decade and, for it to continue to grow and to sell more knives, they are forced to constantly “re-invent the wheel” (that expression is flawed because a knife was invented tens of thousands of years before the wheel).
The CuttingBoardRx idea is to add a voice of reason to the noise of hype, have some fun doing it, and share this journey with you, Lady and Gentlemen (not a typo).

Can blades be swapped between $10 and $5 Ozark Trail Axis Lock Benchmade Bugout knockoffs? #shorts
In this video I’m answering a question from a viewer: if I buy an ugly orange color knife for $10 and a good looking Stormtrooper $5 knife, could I swap the blade?
Why would one want to do this? The $10 knife has a D2 tool grade steel blade and the $5 knife has a junk-grade stainless blade.
YOU CAN’T swap the blades because they don’t want some unscrupulous individual swapping blades and then returning the $10 knife with now junky blade for a refund. They are just not that stupid.

I think that the variable height of the pivot bearing shaft is to be able to switch stones that have different thicknesses and still keep the same angle.
You are correct!
Love your level of detail in the video that covers the 8 things to look out for before sharpening with the Xarilk Gen3! I am just getting around to stepping up my sharpening game and appreciate your honesty and thoroughness - I'm convinced that for my use - my kitchen knives - the Gen3 will be perfect. During my research I came across another youtuber, Neeves Knives. When doing his video on the Xarilk Gen3 vs the Kadet Pro he found that the knife clamps for the TSProf Kadet/KadetPro fit the Xarilk Gen 3. He also reported that by putting the two clamps on the Xarilk on one side can result in a different angle when you flip it to sharpen the other side, and that using the TSProf Single Clamp may be a better solution if doing lots of small knives. He also suggests adding a pair of TSProf rod stops to limit the travel of the sharpening rod. Placing one between the pivot bearing and the stone will reduce the chance of injury, though not likely with the Xarilk guard, and placing the other stop on the other side of the pivot bearing minimizes the assembly from scratching the knife.
@@gene1951 Neeves is affiliated with TS Prof and makes 7-10% commissions from the links provided in his video. I turned the same offer down, have emails to prove this, and when I asked TS Prof if they could pass the savings to my viewers, they started pretending I no longer exist.

Are you using the D type probe? I'm just curious. I sent my LUDT (09/24) and MSI (08/24) to be tested with the same hardness tester that Larrin Thomas himself uses, and came back with 61.5Rc on one side, 61.7Rc on the opposite(LUDT) 61.6Rc one side, 62.1 opposite(MSI). Whereas the Leebs D type probe I have, even placing it on the block with gell, led to similar results as yours. Yet my Rockwell files, put both at over 61, I have an old set made by Mitutoyo that goes from 58 to 65 Rc in half step increments. So I'm just trying to piece together all of this. As very few things would throw the files off. And I'm coming to learn that even Leeb and similar portable testers using a D type probe on the block even admit that they may lead to accuracy readings being off. As I've noticed, even sharpening, that those 2 knives are much less "gummy" than the old M390 ones, which I also had one sent out to the same person(Ultratech 03/21), that came back as 58~Rc. Just trying to piece all of this info together. If you could give me a few more insights, that'd be great. Not attacking you, not saying your measurements are wrong. Just trying to piece things together, and any help you could offer would be great.
@@Skylark427 I would trust your Leeb more than Rockwell because it doesn’t have the worm gear, traverse screw, proportioning hydraulic valve, several hinged levers… everything on this list has to be precision-machined, maintained and annually certified. And they still certify the tester at +/- .5 HRC. That’s on a $10K tester! The Chinese $2.5 K testers have tolerance of +/- 2.5 HRC and $1K units are at +/- 5. D-probe is what I use. I calibrate on Cast Steel setting using HLD scale for obvious reasons then switch to Tool Steel/HRC for the blades. I invite anyone to send me a calibrated sample for a blind test on video!
So you're saying the Leeb is more accurate than the tester that Larrin Thomas uses himself? It's regularly calibrated, It's at the machine shop partnered with the shop I work at now.
I'll elaborate a bit more, it is required to be regularly calibrated every 3 minths by the shop
I'd be willing to do a blind test. Same as I told Larrin Thomas (I've been in communication with him about both this steel, hardness testers, his specific steel Magnacut, as well as other things like AEB-L). I'm not overly worried, as I'm guessing it'll read similar to the Leeb. Larrin just advised against the accuracy of the portable pin types vs the testers like the model he has.
Once I get the correct probe for my Leeb (type C) for knives this thin(type D is 6mm and over), I'll report back to this video with my results. Or, upload a video with a stopwatch, same as you. I honestly don't care about the results either way. Just more interested in the results with the correct probe.
Ha! Got an ad for the product before the video.
