The sharpener in this video may not be the one you think would suit your needs, but the sharpening tips and methods may help you up your sharpening game!
My travel sharpening solution is a 1x6 inch strop with 2um cbn emulsion and a spyderco Double stuff 2 stone. Course cbn on one side and fine ceramic on the other so it covers all my portable sharpening needs and I'm set for any steel out there. I'm a free hand sharpener so it may not be the best option for everyone but if you have even just basic free hand sharpening skills it's all you need for a field or travel sharpening setup.
That’s a pretty neat set-up. I did notice that at 7.55 after you made all your angle adjustments, the rear rod holder fell down to its lowest setting. Not that it mattered much. That’s probably where I’d leave it.

Hey man, thank you for the review. Is it good for a kitchen knifes? I am thinking about getting this one or gen 3. Not sure if I need to invest into something more “reliable” like KME or edge pro. I am willing to invest into good quality diamond stones though. What are your thoughts on this?
I use an original Wicked Edge go, and I've been giving my knife apexes radial scratch patterns, now I'm thinking that I should do one side at a time similar to these one-sided sharpeners
@@lando8913 Ask me in a month as I just got the XARILK diamond 4-plate set. I wouldn’t rush to buy their set yet. I’m having good results with the SY Tools 10 set plates that are linked in the description.
@@rangersix84 this would NOT work on 95% of Spyderco knives because the blades are .125” or thicker. This will work on .110” or thinner. Spydies are very well sharpened from the factory and I would not carry a sharpener around, rather a strop.
Sharpening a recurved blade, almost a mild karambit, with a straight stone is the same as jamming a square in a triangle hole. Do not recommend or do this. It is plain stupid.

They should have consulted you before putting this sharpener out

@@davidcoats1037 I moved it back up. Ended up with 15° per side.
Id love some tests on the viper handy! A lot of people seems to be interested in it but wary because of past experiences with italian heat treatment

Do you think the aluminum backed plates are better quality overall or just stiffer than the plastic? Does the grit seem better?

Have you heard about a sharpening system called KBE? If so what do you think!

I really want this knife, but in better materials
If it’s the blade shape you are after, there may be some options from Kizer or WE. Thanks for subscribing!

What is the best portable sharpening system and would this one work on spyderco?

@@CuttingBoardRxThat is my issue with this sharpening system. Most of my knives are thicker stock than this is made to fit.
@ XARILK Gen 3 can handle .25”
I linked it in the description. Watch my videos about it first tho to see if it’s what you are looking for.
Wouldn't you need a round stone to sharpen a blade shape like that. Or preferably a round stone or ceramic.
@@yasotay Hmm. I think I got it pretty darn sharp, don’t you think?
Not sure why you're only sharpening towards the edge. It would sure go faster if you went both ways.
And it will dull faster as well.
Cheers 🤗
@@wesb123 Well, that would be a reason, if true. It's not.
This is my way to maintain consistent pressure on the blade. I go back and forth when major metal removal is needed.
