Do the leaves get affected by frost? I planted an avocado I grew from seed recently. It's looking great and growing well and no doubt I will protect it in winters to come, but when its big, do the leaves get burnt by frost?
@@der-gus hello, sorry for the late reply. In my experience once they are big trees, no frost damage occurs on the leaves. They are very hardy once the whole trunk gets thick and becomes brown. But yes, you have to baby them while small. Cheers
I've been trying to grow lychee from seed but they only survive between 2 to 3 years since germination and their stem and leaves turn brown and die.
Hello, yes I also tried from seed and it seems very hard unless you are in a favourable climate zone for lychee

Can the skin be peeled on this fruit?
@@mirabilo hi, it is a bit tricky to peel as the fruit is quite soft. I just eat around the skin
@UrbanBounty i bought a Kampong WS at the start of winter over eBay after watching this video. I paid $110, and it was in diabolical condition. Even had scale on it. I've nursed it into better health. I've only got room along the front fence near the street, so I don't want to eat the skin.
@mirabilo it is easy to avoid eating the skin. Sorry to hear that your tree was in bad condition. The thing to watch for with these while youngish is to always pick off any new growth below the graft as soon as you see it. I also got a white sapote that was almost dead, a reineke variety and since trimming offtge rootstock growth it has really bounced back. It evenhas a few fruit, in a pot
@@UrbanBounty thanks for that advice.

Pawpaws looking fabulous. Great to know that they can be pollinated by flies.
@@myexoticfoodplants6727 thank you very much. An update on the fruitlets, about 70% have still held on and looking strong. Yes I read somewhere that the paw paw evolved before butterflies so they rely on flies which is why the flowers are the colour of meat and the scent is like meat too

@@Coolclimatetropicalfruits so far they have stayed open longer tgan normal. They are still open now which is a good sign 🤞

@UrbanBounty wow. Crazy how big the world is! Do y'all have daylight savings time?
@LoganShelton-rh3lp that's very true! Yes we are currently in daylight savings time for another 5 months. Apparently, from what I have read, our climate here in Melbourne is very similar to San Francisco in the USA 🇺🇸

Eye catching flowers Paul, interesting to use that method of collecting pollen
@@lyonheart84 hi Brett, these plants love hanging baskets and shade. They grow in warmer months but too much sun will burn them. I have read that the pollen can also be used to pollinate Dragon Fruit. I've tastes one fruit previously on an unnamed variety and it was great, altgough small. It's like a dragon fruit but much more intense
How exciting! Very eager to see future videos on these.
@@TemperateTropicalDownUnder G'day mate, will make more. I have read that the pollen can be used to cross pollinate dragons which could come in handy one day. The Pink Diamond Dragon here has about 12 small buds and its self fertile so if your first Dragon buds are infertile I will have some pollen

@@melbournesubtropicfruits9474 awesome, thanks for confirming about the TP. Have you ever tried to use the pollen on Dragons?
@@UrbanBounty Fir some unknown reason my Dragons don't flower until end of summer. Maybe try freezing pollen?
@melbournesubtropicfruits9474 I've always had that same trend too. They always flowered "just in time" but I noticed that this year my pink diamond which is self fertile has 12 buds right now. The only thing I did differently this year was give it a huge early prune so I could collect the cuttings to give away and a week afterwards gave them a deep watering on that hot day we had. Literally the next day, the buds were there
@UrbanBounty you might have something there with pruning also foliar feeding also helps
Wow, bloody hell Paul you've just added something else to my list!
