Interesting that they are closely enough related to be compatible for grafting so a great idea 👍

Yes mate and apparently these weeds are very hardy.
I remember them growing as a weed in my grandmas yard 35 years ago but we just pulled them out

I grew some of these Devils Fig (from seed) this year too! I grafted eggplant shoots on a few days ago, but not sure how they will turn out. I hear you can overwinter them that way. I did not know tomatoes can also be grafted to them. I was hoping I could add peppers on too. I just want the veggie patch to be perennial!

G'day and good luck with your eggplants!
For chillies you can grow a rocoto chilli and graft onto that or just grow a rocoto chilli by itself. They live for a decade, very productive. I'll do a video of my one soon

Hi Paul, I've heard about this plant before, will be interesting to see how it goes. You can also do this with the native Kangaroo Apple (also in the solanaceae family). This video will be good for George to see how easy and time efficient grafting is, haha.

Haha, I have only grafted an aussie gold dragonfruit prior to these eggplants and I am just going by feel but it looks like they will take.
Thank you for the tip about the other plant, I will check it out as I hadn't heard of it before and I'd much rather a native than an invasive

Amazing, congrats. I call that plant the giant devil's plant and it's a great rootstock to use as it really does like to take on grafts. After several years of grafting onto my devil's plant I've given up. The weather in Melbourne has been too cool and the eggplants start to get going and it's cold again. I did manage to overwinter an eggplant variety called " Iraqi aswad " , it produced huge eggplants, but then I found out it was very heat tolerant but not cool tolerant. I've cut the devil's plant down now as it was just getting way out of control in the ground.

@@UrbanBounty however I should have said I have seen eggplants overwinter on the devil's plant and I think some of those smaller varieties are able to overwinter better. I'm sure you will do well
