Thanks Brett. Yes, since the trunks have turned brown I haven't given them any protection at all. It's been a windy winter but the positive of that is that we've had no frosts in my area so far, first time that I can remember this happening 😀
Thank you 😀 I went to Welshpool on Saturday and I went fishing and afterwards visited a property I used to own in the binginwarri hills. I bumped into the new owners who showed me the improvements they did to the land and they also mentioned that their relatives in Toora are growing Avocado snd banana with good success. Have you tried avocado?
@UrbanBounty Im notorious for killing avacado trees up here. I do have one that is around 10 years old now, but its not the biggest or heathiest tree. We had an incident where a neighbours goat got to it and damaged it years ago. It has never been good since, but hubby was keen to preserve with it.
Great looking trees. Good to see more people in Melbourne growing avocados. I've also got a Bacon and hass, also a Pinkerton. Mine were all planted in 2016 as tiny 1 foot plants which I think allowed the rootstock to adapt more to my soil, as it's crap and very heavy clay. But they have all survived and have produced small amounts and hopefully get more over the years.
Do the leaves get affected by frost? I planted an avocado I grew from seed recently. It's looking great and growing well and no doubt I will protect it in winters to come, but when its big, do the leaves get burnt by frost?
Very nice, wow lots of Avocados. My Asian pear trees didn’t produce any fruit this year. ☹️. I didn’t get to fertilize them this past spring. Can’t wait to see you harvest those Avocados.
Hello there 😀 The great thing with most avocados is that they dont ripen on the tree, they only start to properly ripen after they have been picked so we are harvesting them all the time. We pick about 8 at a time and that lasts for a week. Enjoy your weekend 😀
@@UrbanBounty I’ve heard more than once the whole needing a pollinator a and b is not really necessary for most avocado to get a good fruit set it’s more for maximum set probably more relevant to commercial 🤷🏻♂️

Love your garden. Very inspiring for me as I live in West Melbourne and wanted to have two avocado plants and, struggling to get it right and failed again and again. Should I plant in the pot after I buy from burnings or should I plant in the ground right away. Thanks
@@wanderwithoutwords gday, nice to meet you. You can plant in the ground so long as you give it adequate protection and site preparation. Build the area up high with quality soil and compost and take the time to cover the young tree in weather extremes of both heat and cold. While the trunk it green, protect from sun in a blue sky day above 32c. Any other other questions, ask any time. It saves having to start again 👌
@@wanderwithoutwords I bought my Avocado from Gardenworld and Coolart Nursery but they are good deals on gumtree and facebook marketplace these days. For advanced trees I went to Tropical Fruit Trees pty ltd in police road Mulgrave as I'm in the south east

I'll definitely try that mate, i did mix gypsum in at planting but I'll give it a dusting again soon 👍. I wonder if you can save pollen with a small vacuum from the other varieties to use in winter

Amazing growth and looking so impressive! Thanks for providing that insight; will need to look into some shade for our younger avos when summer comes around again or paint the trunks white, as some others suggest. What's that tree you have planted next to your bacon?
Hi mate thanks. The tree to the left of the Bacon is a Red Shahtoot Mulberry. The smaller tree in front is a minature peach but I moved that yesterday. Cheers 😀
Your trees and fruit look really good!! Your lucky you don't have problems with the fruit spotting bug considering you have bush land next to you. Those bastards make a mess of all my avos here in south east queensland. Anyways nice video..🥑
Your avocados are looking incredibly healthy! It's great to see how much they have grown over the last 3 years as well. My Bacon avocado tree has been sulking with the cool "summer" weather we have been having this July, I have it in the greenhouse to try and encourage it to grow a bit.
