    Congratulations! Your Red Ball Lychee is doing very well. Good microclimate with the heat from the metal shed and sheltered from the wind. I have a Baitaiying Lychee in a pot and a Bosworth in the ground that is flowering as well. Will post Video soon.

    All looking great Paul, I've given up lychees and longans here lol, they really need a heated greenhouse for winter as they hate the dry house air in winter, they always die on me.

      Hi Brett, at least you tried to grow them so you know. I overwatered my first attempt at lychee and gave them too much sun in summer. This is my second try

      Thanks Peter. I haven't heard of a lychee in Melbourne fruiting from flower to fruit so I wont be surprised if it loses all the flowers but being so sheltered could help it out

    I'm really amazed the Red Ball is looking fantastic and do keep an eye out for bees activity because I notice when they are around working, you are sure to get good fruits set.
    IMO not to worry too much on the burning leaf tip as they may be old or caused from the cold winter... they will eventually drop to be replaced by the new flush of leaves.

    Vreat experience Paul with Red Ball - can you heat the water with roof solar pipes?
    . Marcotted Lychee will fruit on bearing wood like my Tai So did but i cut those off for growth now jts 2.5m in 500mm pot no flowers again but was outside all winter but B3 is flowering soon if it warms up ✔️

    • @UrbanBounty
      @UrbanBounty  9 місяців тому +1

      Thanks Mark! That would work so well if the water tanks were heated, could even add tanks around the yard. I am thinking about heating my fish pond this winter but hadn't though of roof pipes. Another job on the list now lol

    Your lychee bloomed abit late this year. My lychee has fruitlets on it already. Did you fertilise with organic matter around September?. Anyways beautiful garden and new growth on the lychee tree keep the water up to help it produce fruit.

    • @UrbanBounty
      @UrbanBounty  9 місяців тому

      Wow you already have fruitlets? Where abouts are you located? I am just happy with the flowers but if I get fruitlets I'll be very happy.

      @@UrbanBounty yep mine started producing flowers in September during the warm week and bloomed approx mid November and now has set fruitlets in the past week or so . I stick to sheep manure and liquid seaweed every fortnight. I am in whittlesea area Melbourne.

      @@UrbanBounty by the way you should try growing Amman guava. Cold hardy if advanced like mine and plant in ground. I planted mine in mid October and exploded instantly producing flowers and new branches so fast. Has a rich top soil but 1-2 feet down is all clay. The same tree was struggling to put new leaves on. Maybe the trick is planting in rich soil in ground but minimal organic matter that will break down and just sticking to liquid seaweed or manure when feeding tree.

      @@UrbanBountythe lychees got big than fell off. I went to go buy a tree at Vu’s nursery and I asked him why it didn’t hold the fruit for long and ripen it apparently your supposed to give the tree potassium to support fruit holding and ripening ability because he has a lychee than is holding and ripening a seedless lychee tree at his place which was set here in Melbourne.

  • @jiangtao2990

    can Lychee grow well in Melbourne? I asked a farmer and he said no..... he said it grows in Queensland

    • @UrbanBounty
      @UrbanBounty  8 місяців тому +1

      They can survive if you put them in a sheltered spot but it's definitely a novelty, you may or may not succeed in getting fruit but it will take many years regardless. The main thing is to protect from wind and strong afternoon summer sun.
      Have a great new year 👍
