2021+ Ford Bronco: How to install a transmission skid plate from Mabett and why you need one
If you have a Bronco with an automatic transmission, you should seriously consider the addition of a skid plate to protect the plastic transmission pan. Watch my video and I will show you some examples of damage that can result without a skid plate.
If you intend use your Bronco off-road, I would make that addition a necessity!
In this video I will show you the Mabett transmission skid plate, and how to install it, which is a pretty simple process.
Here is a link to the product: amzn.to/43pQMAU
(note their website indicates it only fits Broncos with the 2.3L engine)

2021+ Ford Bronco - I made a custom leather shift boot and it almost broke me!

This was my most difficult project thus far! It might not seem like a lot, but I had to figure this out on my own, and I have almost ZERO experience using a sewing machine. Fortunately, my Mom gave me some guidance and that helped a lot. The results are pretty good. Not professional level good, but good, and nothing compares to the satisfaction of blazing your own path and figuring something ou...

In this video, I will show you the absolute EASIEST and CLEANEST way to change the 2.3L engine oil step-by-step, including an important step to cycle the engine without ...

Welcome to Budget Bronco! 2 Door Ford Bronco Base Projects Introduction
Unfortunately Amazon did me wrong and I ended up installing the LED version on my Halogen tail light Bronco. I rewired per the video and everything works fine now. Should I still cut and ground the red wire? That was one of the wires you had us relocate. Appreciate the video!
Great video!!🤝 I want the first edition for my birthday!!
Can you get access the filter from the top or underneath?
From the top, no. From underneath, yes. But trust me, the easiest access is from the wheel well.
Following this video, my Brake mode wouldn't disengage, and now I can't tell if it 's engaged or not, and now I have warning lights on my dash
Try following the instructions again. If you have FORscan you can also use that to re-engage. Try flipping to switch to turn on and off the emergency parking break with the engine off. If you you hear a 'whirring' sound coming from the rear end for about 1 second, that is the sound of the brakes engaging/disengaging and if that is happening then you know for sure the maintenance mode has been turned off. If not, do not drive it!
Thank you sir appreciate 🙏
My pleasure happy to help, thanks for watching
Nice hacks here on how to pack them into that dang bag. Thanks! Also worthy of note: when packed in the back, you are now on side mirrors only. Rear view is completely blocked.
You are correct....thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
How has it geld up driving? Looks awesome 😎 I'm thinking it would look good in my maverick like this in cactus grey
Holding up great! No chips, nothing (oh wait, one ding on one wheel when I dropped my torque wrench on it when tightening a lug nut). I will say one thing tho, the white gets dirty quickly, but easy to just hose off.
@@BudgetBronco looks fantastic! Thanks for the response
This was a great resource, you’ve earned a subscription haha. The only change I noticed to a 2024 big bend with stock plastic under engine protection is that there is a bolt in the middle front of the rear plastic panel that needs to be fully removed to slide the rear panel out, unlike the steel ones you showed where you just loosen the two front bolts and slide the panel out.
Good to know, thanks for the comment and the sub!
Amazing video. Reslly clear guide and easy to follow what you're doing. I think I'm going to try this with my mazda 3
Thanks I hope it works out well for you! If you decide to go the easier route and buy one, check out these guys www.redlinegoods.com/ if nothing else the installation guide for your specific vehicle may help
Well looks solid enough and a fraction of the crazy costs of other flaps. Like you mentioned, painting the screws black would look way better. Nice job!
They are also holding up really well. They look as good 2.5 years later as the day I installed them. Thanks for the comment!
Looks factory, or what Ford should have done. And a lot cheaper than metal ones, although the metal ones for the front do have a light or camera mount slot
Oh interesting, I have not seen those. Thanks for watching!
I love Guinea pigs
Nice!! 😂
Do you still recommend these tires after all these years? Great content btw.
YES! Very very happy with them. About 16k miles on them and they are wearing very nicely. I expect to get at least 30k miles from them, likely more. The only negative I see is that the sidewalls are hard to keep looking nice, they are taking a greyish hue to them after 3 years. I have read this is common, and is only cosmetic, does not affect wear or function. I also have not made any effort to keep them clean with any speciail products, only standard car washing.
Hey Tim. I originally installed a Takonsha system on my base Bronco with Halogen taillights. My trailer lights did not work.I have just rewired the connectors as you suggested but still doesn't work. Only running lights work. No turn signals or brake lights. Any ideas?
Which Tekonsha part number did you install?
Thank you for this. I was never really able to figure this out on my own.
Glad I could help!
Thank you for posting this - I was able to make one today and with your instruction on reassembling the boot, it turned out perfect!
Awesome!! You are the first person to let me know they were able to replicate my work.
That's bc you put the bolts in the opposite way that they are supposed to go...smh
True, but the only way to insert the bolt the opposite direction is to take the bumper off and I didn't want to bother with that. Thanks for watching!
Great design
Thanks for watching!
Hey, I was just wondering why you stopped making videos? Did you sell your Bronco. Thanks, have a great day
Hey Fred thanks for checking in...I still have the Bronco and plan to for a long long time. Why no videos? No good reason really, just focused on some other things in life lately. I am going to a Bronco meetup next weekend so maybe I will make a vid there??
@@BudgetBronco hey, thank you. I enjoyed all your videos. Trust me I know exactly what you mean about lives taking up your time. Glad to hear alls well, have a great day.
@@BudgetBronco Any opportunity to film this beauty is a good enough excuse to put out a video. Your build has aged incredibly well considering they no longer sell the 'base' model. I really wanted a simple 30(k) truck that I could modify. Now everything's too much money & too much Sasquatch.
my bag seems to be too small for this, what can i do?
It is a snug fit, keep trying they will fit!
It looks good ,but it could have looked better .you should have bought another grill and added the FORD letters. You missed the DRl amber caps . Nice job
I thought about that..one of the things I don't like about the Heritage grille is that it looks more like FORO than FORD to me
Please tell me that the bronco badges arent cheap amazon plastic crap?
Sorry ,that comment was for another vid. You're the man. Is that a real retro grille?
No, original Base grille that I painted
Great job!!!
Appreciate that, thanks for watching!
Thank you for this! The first thing you said about the useless QR code brought me to UA-cam and you answered the rest of my questions.
Haha I wish I could redirect the QR code straight to my video! Glad you found me
seriously remove the filter behind the tire, ford is trying to copy the germans on stupid
Thanks for watching!
How much of the catalytic converter does this cover. Thanks.
Good question! I just crawled under there to take a look. This does not fully cover the bottom connection of the cat, but it does make it more difficult to get at. Fortunately the top connection of the cat is waaaay up toward the engine so that side is very difficult to get a saw up there. My guess is that cat thefts on Broncos are fairly low compared to other vehicles.
@@BudgetBronco thank you. I really appreciate you taking the time to check.
No problem, happy to help and thanks for watching!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching
Watched the vid. Great content for the front brakes. Did I miss the part part about the rear brakes?
I did not do the rear in this video, but the process should be similar. Make sure you put the brakes in maintenance mode! That also disables the electric parking brake in the rear.
I love the plaid seats personally. I want a Bronco Heritage.
It seems a lot of people do, I might be in the minority on this. Thanks for watching!
Great video normally you have to pump the brake pedal few times after changing the brake pads to build up pressure again or else brake pedal drop to the floor on first stop so I’m curious did you do that before reengaging the brake mode ?
Re-engage first!
Thank you for the answer I was working on front brake with 1.5L turbo engine vacuum type but like you said for rear brake engage to maintenance mode
Weird that it says 4 door and not 2 door Bronco on Amazon...
I see in the 'about this item' it says "Fitment: Transmission skid Guard Plate Fit Ford Bronco 2021 2022 2023 2024 2/4-Door 2.3L EcoBoost Engine. (including Manual and Automatic Transmission) Not Fit Bronco Sport and Bronco with 2.7L EcoBoost Engine"
Hey watched a few of your Bronco videos today and wanted to comment here that i am an Infinity speaker fan since the 80's lol. Great choice on speakers!
Thanks for watching! Yes I would rate this speakers as 'good', especially for the money. There are definitely better ones out there but you will pay a lot more $$$.
Thanks for the video😊
Glad I could help!
Great PSA!!!!!! For those of us that didn't research and went head first........without doing maintenance mode it causes all kinds of lights to illuminate on the dash. No worries though. It's easy to correct. Simply go into maintenance mode than back out. This causes a diagnostic to occur and resets the system. All good. Thanks for sharing. It was a time and money saver after my Christmas tree of a dash lit up after I started it.
Good to know, thanks for the comment and glad I could help!
I don't really understand why your resting the bottom of the door trim on the edge of the bracket. Can you explain
My only explanation is that this is an easy and low budget solution. Yes, a more highly engineered solution would include a mechanism to put pressure on the wider flat part. But with the pads on as shown in my video, I have not had any problems or damage.
She looks a million times better. Ive always thrown 35s on my trucks (3500, 2500, and 1500) and nevever had the speedo off by 9mph that seems high from 30-33 at 99mph... all of mine have always been right around 3 at lower speeds (30-40mph) and 4-5 at 70/80... that scale seems off but im not a math athlete so its possible im wrong... How much did the mpg change going from 30-33? Lmfao my eco diesel (suppose to get like high 20s on highway) only gets like 17 on 35" tires. Atleast thats what the computer says, but i think its close because it has 8? Gears and rarely is it in 8th gear. It really anoys me, and it wont let me change gears manually. Really anoying. Looks good though even on stock rims. I really dig the new bronco's especially the ones with a proper gear box and 3 things to stomp on
Thanks for the comments....I think my MPG dropped about 2 with the bigger tires. I was just actually testing this yesterday on a highway drive. Going out I had a headwind and was getting better mileage in 5th gear, around 21 mpg at 65 mph. Coming back with a tailwind I got best in 6th gear, around 22.5 at 65 mph.
Exceptional video! The maintenance mode is a great need to know.
It really is, can save you a lot of trouble and possibly injury too, especially if you have the 2.7 with electronic assist brakes. Thanks for watching!
Very nice! Well done. Inspirational! Wouldn't it have been cheaper to buy smaller amounts of the wrap material? Instead of such a large piece to cut into all those individual sections? Thanks for the dimensions btw :)
No, I don't think it would for two reasons: 1) the wrap only comes in one width size, so you want to pack as many pieces in to that width as possible and 2) the price per linear unit goes down the longer the roll that you buy. Thanks for the question!
@Budget Bronco - given you did this 2 years ago, could you share how the vinyl wrap has help up? :) Much thanks in advance!
My best answer is, it held up OK. Not perfect, but good. I think most of this is bc of my less-than-professional wrap job. After the first year there were some bubbles forming along ridges. I covered this in my Q&A video, check it out right around the 19 min ua-cam.com/video/1B4D7K7myZM/v-deo.htmlsi=tWuG1-DiBbg60aZg&t=1137. I recently had the hardtop replaced by Ford so I have it on my to-do list to wrap again and I think this second time I should be able to do a better job. Thanks for watching and for being a subscriber!
Which capacitor do i need for the Infinity REF-4032CFX (4in) speaker? 400V - 1.5UF capacitor is good?
Sorry I do not want to give you bad advice so my answer is 'I don't know'. Check the link in my video description, the one I linked there I know works for sure.
Love it
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing! I feel way more comfortable installing my table now ❤
Glad I could help!
This is insane! I used to be a full service gas jockey and we'd change a bulb for a customer while they waited.
Definitely not like the old days! Few things on cars and trucks are.
Thank you. I took my top of for the first time today and couldn't figure out that bag to save my life. Lol
Glad I could help!

Bro
Hi there, in your link below and on Amazon it said is not fit on 2.7L engine. It’s only fit on 2.3L kinna confused to that one
I believe there is a slight difference that makes the fitment different. For example if you go to this website of a company that sells a similar product, there is an option for the 2.3 and a separate one for 2.7. It indicates the fitment difference is a 'crossmember' rcimetalworks.com/product/transmission-skid-plate-19-present-bronco/
Do it with plastidip and it will be reversible.
Yes, easier to take off, but also not as durable. Thanks for watching!
Thanks 👍
Welcome 👍
Someone linked your video on Reddit. Looks great, well done. I don’t even own a Bronco but I watched anyways… gonna be painting my Sequoia grille soon.
Oh cool, I did not know that. Glad you found me, and good luck with your paint job, this technique shold work on just about any grille. Thanks for watching
