1963 International Scout - 152 Comanche Engine Testing - Part 2
In this part 2 video I continue the process of digging in to the International 152 Comanche four cylinder engine to diagnose if my low cylinder compression is due to valves or lifters. I disassemble the valve rocker assembly, lifter rods, and hydraulic lifters.

1963 International Scout - Engine Testing - Part 1
Переглядів 242Місяць тому
As my first step of digging in to my recently purchased Scout 80, I want to perform some diagnostic tests on the 4 cylinder 152 cubic inch engine to see what I am working with. In this video I will perform a compression test and also look at the valve train action. Spoiler alert: the results were not good! Music with permission from Ronan Conroy

It has been a while but I am happy to be back with a new video! With this video I am an starting a new video series on a new project truck that I recently bought, a 1963 International Harvester Scout 80. This is truly a project, TONS of work if it is to ever get running and road-worthy again. But as they say, it's about the journey not the destination. I may never get it running, but it will be...

This was my most difficult project thus far! It might not seem like a lot, but I had to figure this out on my own, and I have almost ZERO experience using a sewing machine. Fortunately, my Mom gave me some guidance and that helped a lot. The results are pretty good. Not professional level good, but good, and nothing compares to the satisfaction of blazing your own path and figuring something ou...

In this video, I will show you the absolute EASIEST and CLEANEST way to change the 2.3L engine oil step-by-step, including an important step to cycle the engine without ...

In this first part I will answer the following questions: 1) Why did I choose the Bronco in the first place? 2) What do I most D...

Hi Tim, Your Bronco looks great! That's a sweet looking grille. It really turned out nice! I'm planning to buy a Base Model later this year when they come out so, I'm just getting prepared :<)
Thanks for watching! I was very happy to see they brought the Base back for 2025. Good luck with your build!
Love the Morvair!!!!
It was very cool to see it in person after having watched all the videos of them building it from scratch
Great job!
Thank you! Cheers!
I use Amsoil the first synthetic oil made.
Great choice, I did not know that! Thanks for watching
Tiny engine takes so much expensive oil? Damn.
True, it is unusual. For comparison the Dodge V6 3.6L that is used in a ton of vehicles including our Durango uses less oil, only 5.9 quarts. Thanks for the comment!
LS swap it
HAHA you said that on Part 1 too. Too much rust on this one to merit that kind of investment
Where is the Spartan hat?? Daughter is a fellow spartan as well--great video. Looking forward to following the progress on not only the Scout but further things with the Bronco as well
I still have it and wear it regularly but I guess not in a video lately. Thanks for watching and GO GREEN!
@@BudgetBronco Go White!!
Yoooo
Yooooo back at ya!
If you correct the speedometer to the new tire size I doubt you'll see much difference in mpg.
I did and you are right! Slightly less mpg.
How many coats of clear coat did you apply? Looks amazing!
Two coats
@ perfect thank you! This series id a god send!
Thanks for watching!
Appreciate all your videos but special thanks for this one. 👍
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Did you buy a new Bronco? The other one was blue and you put the white wrap on the top.
Nope, same Bronco! Still Antimatter Blue but in the shade it looks very very dark, almost black. The top in a white vinyl wrap that I removed when I had the top replaced under warranty and I haven't gotten around to wrapping it again. Also considering painting it white.
@BudgetBronco I ask a body shop to paint my top cactus gray and he refused to do it Said it would chip off because it's not fiberglass
Heard a rumor you're planning on unveiling your '63 IScout short range EV mod in pt. 2, can't wait!
😂 that might be part 20
@@BudgetBronco LS swap😂
I love old Scouts and Broncos and even old Pathfinders and 4Runners. It will be interesting to see what VW does with the Scout name. It would be nice if they made a basic 4WD off-roader for $25K but unfortunately it looks like it will be an EV mall-crawler.
I think the new Scouts look very cool, especially the Traveler. But unfortunately it seems the days of the $25k offroad vehicle are long gone. My super base Bronco bought it 2021 was $31k. Now here at the end of 2024 the same Bronco is $40k !!
@BudgetBronco Mitsu and Nissan and Ford put out smaller SUVs for $30K so there is no reason that a company like VW couldn't do it for about the same $. Nissan should just reissue the 1990 Pathfinder 4 door exactly how it was before.
Ahh welcome back, I was wondering how things were going.
Not off to a great start, but will keep pushing on!
@ keeping you in prayer.
Looking forward to part 2!!!
Thanks for watching!
Only now in 2025 will the Bronco be launched in Brazil, with only a 4-door version coming to Bradlands. I hope I can buy it!
Good for you, I hope you get one!
Enjoying the channel. Had a question, I have a 2024 Big Bend with 255/75 R17 but they look a tad skinny. I would like to add a larger tyre with a little more width but I am unsure what would fit, do you have any opinion or suggestion for me? Thanks.
This is a complicated question because there are a lot of variables and I don't have personal experience with BB so my recommendation is to use the Bronco6g forum and you can get feedback from others that have actual experience with this trim and tire size. Here is a good one to get you started: www.bronco6g.com/forum/threads/low-noise-road-first-all-terrain-wheel-upgrade-for-big-bend-looking-for-recommendations.78721/
I bookmarked this for my second time at my oil change. I needed a refresher! Thanks again. 10,000 miles.
You're welcome! I'm glad you found it helpful and thanks for watching
I bought the 4 door race red heritage edition and I love the blue plaid seats. Kind of a red white and blue theme to me... 🥰👍👍
If you have watched my grille video you will know I am also a big fan of the red-white-blue theme....thanks for watching!
Im thinking of doing something similar except just the top roof panels but leave the side and rear glass panels in black. Kinda like a Defender style
That might be cool. Certainly could be done, since each section is separate. Good luck with it!
Around 14:30 you mentioned replacing the caliper bracket bolts. Did you end up replacing those? Trying to find the part#
I did not, but this should be what you are looking for: W711784-S300 - Washer for the brake line (which is moved out of the way) W719491-S439 - Bolt to mount caliper to knuckle (caliper bracket bolt) W717938-S439 - Caliper bolt www.bronco6g.com/forum/threads/brake-upgrades-37-tires-skids-starting-to-think-about-brakes.105304/post-2397745
W717938S439 is for the rear I believe. Not sure what the fronts are or if they are the same...
Front is the same parts.ford.com/shop/en/us/hardware-and-fasteners-71564-2/disc-brake-caliper-anchor-plate-bolt-bracket-mounting-p-w717938s439
WOW a UA-camr with a tripod! FINALLY!
HA! I should probably use it more often. Thanks for watching!
The white top really sets it off nicely.
Thank you! I agree it is one of my favorite mods so far. Thanks for watching
Welcome to the madness! Super excited for you. There are forums and facebook groups and a lot of knowledgable folks that can help you along the way. With a vin # you can get a “line set ticket” that will give you all the original specs your Scout rolled off the production line with. You can also purchase a reprint of the service manual which is a great resource. I finished up a frame off restoration on a 1970 800A Scout a couple of years ago (and bought a 2024 Bronco a couple of months ago.) I’m not as familiar with the 80s but yours looks like a pretty solid scout. The 152 was pretty bulletproof so you should be able to get it running pretty quickly. If you decide to swap out the frame, keep in mind that you’ll need to find one that was for a four cylinder rather than an 8 cylinder scout b/c the engine-support geometry was different. If you have any questions, I’d be happy to try to point you in the right direction. Best of luck and enjoy the ride!
Thanks @tjswenson123 for all the info! I have found a bunch of good websites with info, especially binderplanet The problem with my 1963 is that it does not have a VIN. I have read that these early models only have a serial number. Do you know if that is enough to get a line sheet? Stay tuned for more videos as I have begun tearing in to the engine. Spoiler alert: not good news
"Money pit!" - Scotty Kilmer 😂
HAHA that is a good one!
Great video, thank you. Subscribed.
Appreciate that! Glad you found it helpful.
Awesome project looking forward to videos on the progress.
Stay tuned and thanks for watching!
Looking forward to all this Scout goodness!!!!
For sure! Next up I will be inspecting the engine...
How much did they pay you to tow it away?😂
Let's just say it was very inexpensive 😂
your a gear head u will get this bad boy into shape
I will give it try! Thanks for watching
Yeah, that definitely isn't going to pass PA inspection 😂 But what a fun hobby. I hope you paint it aqua blue at the end of the project 💙
HAHA no it is a loooooong way from that but would definitely look good in blue. Thanks for watching!
Are you still happy with the size and brand of your choice of tires for the Bronco?
YES! The Bronco tires have been awesome, no regrets at all.
Looks awesome. Great job
Thank you and thanks for watching!
That looks amazing! I just purchased my 2022 2 door in eruption green on monday
Awesome! Green with a white top would look amazing.
The 2 step in Texas. Wife & I got sideways/stuck at 34* angle in 2 Door. We’re we’re Bronco 1. Meaning we were first to do all the obstacles. It was Awesome !
You got it! Glad to hear you enjoyed it...beautiful country too. Thanks for watching!
excellent thanks
You are welcome! Thanks for watching
Super helpful video and pretty easy. Would I use the same bulb if I wanted to replace my brake light as well?
No, unfortunately it is not that easy for the brake/turn bulb. Subbing in an LED might cause problems like flicker or warnings
so it didnt help
Not much...looks better though! Thanks for watching
Can I just replace the speakers without any scanner editing?
Yes you can, no problem there. The FORScan edit will just make them even better.
Just wanted to say thanks. Bought the 56468 by mistake. I installed it with the help of one of your other videos. Then solved the non working issue using this video. Your instructions were CLEAR, and EXACT. For a non technical person (myself) I was able to run the wires, change the pin configuration and complete the installation myself. Thanks again. Keep up the great videos
Awesome! I am glad it worked out for you. Glad I could help!
Any issues with the 2.3 with stick gearing ?
IMO 33" tires with the stock 4.46 gearing is perfect
@@BudgetBronco gotcha. I have an auto and it’s 3.73
thanks for the details, I did this and put the same pair on the rear.
Oh nice! I have not put anything back there, not yet anyway. Mine still look as good as the day I installed them two years ago, they are very durable.
Are you still happy with these tires?
Very happy with them. People speculated that they would not wear evenly with this setup but that is not the case. I have 20k miles on them and wear pattern is normal. The only negative comment I would make is that the sidewalls have greyed a bit, but I have also not made any effort to treat them with any kind of product to prevent that.
Well deserved Like!
Thanks for that!
I really like the Bronco Heritage plaid interior. I think it makes it interesting vs. just 2 colors.
Yes it seems like a love it or hate it kind of thing. I definitely appreciate the retro nod, it just is not for me. Thanks for watching!
Great video - thank you. Where do you stow the 4-pin connector when not in use?
Thanks! I later installed a connector, here is the video: ua-cam.com/video/H0PKvZPd0iU/v-deo.html
Tnks for the vid man ❤
You are welcome! Thanks for watching
Just replaced my four speakers with bass reduction crossover up front and used the same Infinity units. Only deviation was adding sound deadener in the rear boxes and I did not reconfig via fourscan. Much improved clarity and can now hear the rear units for a much more satisfying experience. TY for the how to!
Glad I could help! Addition of sound deadener is a good option.
nice
Thanks!
