2021-2022 Ford Bronco - Tail light LED reverse bulb replacement upgrade

  • In this video I will show you how to replace the halogen reverse light bulb found in the standard tail light of Base, Big Bend, and Black Diamond Broncos.
    The standard halogen bulb is OK, but the LED bulb is significantly brighter and helps a lot when backing up in the dark. The replacement process is pretty easy, and for only $30 this is a worthy upgrade in my opinion.
    Here is an Amazon affiliate link for the LED bulb used in this video. Thank you for supporting my channel, using these links results in no additional cost to you:

    The bulb type is WT21W

    Make sure your Bronco has Halogen bulbs. My Outer Banks does not. I made the mistake of assuming the upper end Broncos did if the base package did. Crazy how involved the bulb change is.

    • @BudgetBronco
      @BudgetBronco  2 роки тому +3

      Correct, if you have an Outer Banks, Badlands, Wildtrak, or Everglades (and Raptor, of course) your tail lights come with LED from the factory and you do not need to make this upgrade!

    This is insane! I used to be a full service gas jockey and we'd change a bulb for a customer while they waited.

    This video is good because you better swap for some LEDs ASAP, so you have to do ALL this hopefully only once or way less often.

    That's worth it ! Did you catch the "3DR" on the bracket under the trim panel at 3:19? I wonder if Ford designates this a 3 Door ?

    • @BudgetBronco
      @BudgetBronco  2 роки тому +2

      I did notice that! I have seen it referred to a 3 door in some Ford literature, I guess they include the tailgate as a door. But on the window sticker and in the owner's manual they call it a 2 door or 4 door 🤷‍♂️

    • @BudgetBronco
      @BudgetBronco  Рік тому +1

    • @nicobonis
      @nicobonis Рік тому +1

      @@BudgetBronco sorry, what I mean is the bulb socket. Is T20 bulb? You know the base of the bulb, the connector model. Im looking for a similar model, in my country I can't get "lasfit". So i need to know the bulb type in order to purchase the right bulb, but manual describes the lamp as wt21w.

    • @BudgetBronco
      @BudgetBronco  Рік тому +1

      Ahh now I understand! You have the right designation per the manual. I cannot say for sure if this is what would be called 'T20' but it looks correct. My advice would be to order from a place that has easy returns, and if it does not work properly return and try again. Good luck! I’ve had these bulbs in since August. Big fan living in the woods. Oracle just released theirs. Wondering if they’re much brighter for double the cost.

    • @BudgetBronco
      @BudgetBronco  2 роки тому +1

      Yes I saw the Oracle ones, as of right now (early April 2022) they are on pre-order for $40 plus shipping. Oracle does make good products, and they list them as 2200 lumens, so that is a little bit brighter than the ones I installed which are listed as 1400 lumens. So if you are willing to spend a little more, that is probably a good option as well.

    I replaced my bulbs too and now the backup camera goes darker like it’s trying to adjust for the extra brightness by dimming the image, which makes for an even darker view than with the standard bulbs. Thoughts.? Thanks for the video.

    Love the video! Thanks for doing this and sharing the light bulb you got. I plan on doing this when my bronco comes next month.
    I was wondering though if it is the same bulb for the brake light? The link for Amazon that you have shows the regular backup WHITE bulb but also has a RED one available. I’d like to do both but didn’t know if it was the same and would fit.

    • @BudgetBronco
      @BudgetBronco  2 роки тому

      I don't think the same bulb in red will work for the other light. Reason being, the standard halogen bulb it replaces has dual filaments since it operates as both the running light and the turn/brake signal. I have seen others on the Bronco6G forum say that they tried it, but when using turn signals they got 'hyperflash' I think meaning it cycles on and off very fast.

    All that just too replace a bulb?? Engineers need to go back to the drawing board.

    • @BudgetBronco
      @BudgetBronco  2 роки тому

      True, automakers are putting more focus on function and cost much more so than repair and replacement effort and costs these days. Headlights and taillights are a prime example. They are one of the first things to get dinged or broken in a minor bump or fender bender, but often cost $1000 or more to replace these days.

    How is the wrapped MIC top holding up.. is the wrapp sticking well to the MIC top?

    • @BudgetBronco
      @BudgetBronco  2 роки тому

      Pretty good but not perfect. On the top-middle along the ridges there are a few spots where I see air bubbles forming, and along the edge in one spot where I did not do a good job and there are some creases, it is not adhering well there either. I will make a video in the summer and show the details.

    • @Ebacherville
      @Ebacherville 2 роки тому +1

      @@BudgetBronco do you think its more of a adhesion issues with MIC top or a installer experience issue.. Could a professional make it work better, they may have tricks for these issues?

    • @BudgetBronco
      @BudgetBronco  2 роки тому +1

      Honestly I think a little of both. A pro could definitely do a better job on the ridges and the curved corners, but I don't think wrap on the MIC top will ever last as long as the smooth painted surfaces for sure, the textured surface and maybe the plastic off-gassing are a factor. For the $180 that I spent on mine, I would be happy getting two years out of it. But if I paid a pro $1500 and only got two years, I would be disappointed.
