2021-2022 Ford Bronco - Under hood sound insulation installation and testing

  • You do NOT have to buy the 'High Package' with your Bronco in order to get the under-hood sound insulation. There are now aftermarket options where you can buy and easily install this insulation on your 2 Door or 4 Door Bronco. The bigger question is.....does it actually work??
    In this video I will show you such a product, show you how to install it, and then do some 'before and after' testing of sound levels under various scenarios and show you the results of this testing.

    dB is a log scale, so 10dB less at idle is 10x quieter. Didn't seem to matter much on the road though

    • @BudgetBronco
      @BudgetBronco  2 роки тому +2

      Interesting...I hadn't thought about that. So the 16% difference for the idling test is actually more? For the other two tests, I think the small difference in results is probably within the accuracy of the smart phone's ability to measure, so I think we can safely call those no real improvement, certainly not one you would notice by ear.

    Another interesting and well shot video. It will insulate the paint (most not all) on the hood from excessive heat from the engine bay. That should help it from fading prematurely.
    Sound deadening or insulation against the fire wall should help with interior noise levels. Years ago I removed the carpet from my Ranger and added insulation, then replaced the carpet. It really did reduce road and engine noise.

    • @BudgetBronco
      @BudgetBronco  2 роки тому +1

      You are right, that would definitely help. But, with the Bronco I think it is a losing battle, because the majority of the cabin noise comes from wind noise especially if you have a soft top, and also tire noise depending on which tire you have.

      It is a bit of a toss up:
      It DOES reduce sound levels when the Bronco is idling, as measured outside the vehicle
      It DOES give the hood a more finished look
      It DOES likely make it easier to clean the underside of the hood, keeping mud and crud out of the recesses in the bracing
      But, it does NOT reduce sound levels inside the cabin when revving the engine or when driving on the highway.

  • @filup7419
    @filup7419 2 роки тому +1

    At 5:04 you were getting 65 MPG!?!
    It does look like it helps with the noise a little bit. My only gripe is the rattling engine sound of the newer 4 bangers during acceleration when leaving a red light. I know it has power but sometimes it sounds like you’re really ringing the squirrels in the cage. Hopefully the insulation can help with that.
    Originally, it wasn’t designed as a noise insulator. It was initially put in cars for safety so if an engine caught fire, it would melt the plastic tabs and fall onto the engine in hopes of suffocating a carburetor fire.

    • @BudgetBronco
      @BudgetBronco  2 роки тому

      HAHAHA oh my that is embarrassing....good catch Phillip! I wish the Bronco got 65 mpg. Thanks also for the insight on the insulators. I don't hate the sound of the 2.3, but it definitely does not sound as good as the 4.7L V8 in my Grand Cherokee.

    • @tetsai
      @tetsai Рік тому

      My Bronco makes a horrible metallic clattering under moderate acceleration as well... I was told that metal banging noises are normal by Ford... So I am exploring ways to reduce the noise. This is the first step. IAG makes a large plastic engine cover that would work wonders if I put some sound deadening on the underside. Heat resistant of course.

    Nice vid, been looking for a factory hood pad, with no luck. I just today installed a Ranger 2.3l factory engine cover, bought on Amazon. Bolts on, (just needed two 10mm machine thread nuts) it comes with the stand offs. Looks better, and seems to knock down the buzz of the injectors a tad. Just ordered one of these as well. Interested in the result of having both. My only gripe with this motor is that it is a bit buzzy...

    In colder climates like Northern New Hampshire where I live, you would not want hood insulation. When you have hood insulation and ice on your hood it takes forever to melt the ice enough for it to slide off.

    • @BudgetBronco
      @BudgetBronco  2 роки тому +1

      Not just Ford, all the automakers do it. It is a money making strategy that works for them. But that is why I much prefer the Base option, and then just add the bits and pieces that you really want for a fraction of the cost.

    Can you do a video for an air deflector for the hood? I've been getting a lot of bugs and rock chips on the windshield, but I can't seem to find something that will help deflect them by pushing the air up and over the windshield. I know my older broncos had a lot of options for that. Thanks!

      I got the one from my Ford Stealership that matches the extended fender lips and has the raised lip on the back cause of bugs and a rock chip on the windshield.
      Week afterwards another rock hit the bottom of the windshield putting in a long crack.
      Had the windshield replaced with my Insurance.
      Still noticing lots of bugs hitting the windshield so it doesn't work that great.

    • @BudgetBronco
