How To Shoot A Bow And Arrow / Archery Lesson
Yeah I’m sure she shoots so often with them nails lol… they let anyone make how to videos , I would be surprised if she can even shoot!
Really….
Watch out, mutt down range!!
I clicked on the video just to help me with a story but I learned a lot from this.
What's new released in your fingers? They don't mind. What's your I have does it's not touching a string anymore and it's gone
... best beginners vid so far ... she demonstrates as she talks where some other instructors mostly talk and drown me in acronyms and anecdotal recollections ... I saw all my mistakes laid out in front of me ... before I watched the vid I thought I was a 90 pound weakling klutz and realized after the movie that my problems were poor posture, stance & form ... besides she's a lot easier on the eyes than some grizzled old redneck instructor
She like an arcangel... Is gorgeous🤩👌
Great advice and so glad your dog moved out of the frame before you started shooting.
Thank you
Tara, thank you, I appreciate your tips.I have always just picked a spot with wildly different results. New to gap shooting and excited to try it out
I think you will like the Gap Method! Hope it helps!
I always shoot 2 cm below, brings the arrow closer to my eye on the anchor, from all the distance positionts on the strig, with 2 cm/aprox 1" i always shoot the best group, is it wrong?!
It's not wrong! It's following more of a string walking style! Great way to aim - I just keep basic, easy options for aiming (instinctive or gap style). But yes, string walking is used by top barebow shooters!
@ArcheryHouse but my anchor is not under my chinn, i taught string walking is with the anchor under the chinn. My anchor is under my cheek, a very little more behind than yours, but i observed when shooting with the gap, i am more accurate
@ArcheryHouse oooor maybe is just random for now, i am a beginner
I'm an Archery student, and I have a question. Your bow moved after your shot at one point, and I noticed that mine does too, and it messed my shot up. Am I doing something else wrong, or is it the bow itself? Also, this might answer a bit of my first question, but how do I stop myself from shaking too?
Thank you very good típs
Thanks for watching!
Hi Tara, which do you think is easier - split finger or three under? Thanks for your tips!
I like three under for barebow, traditional style and spilt finger for Olympic style shooting!
I watch this video from time to time as a gentle reminder to pay attention to what ghs he'll I'm doing and why I gave really bad practice sessions. Good stuff, thanks.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the video. Just started shooting w/ an olympic recurve and the arrow falling off the rest has impacted the enjoyment. Will try the finger tension technique next time.
I hope that helps! Good luck with the finger tension method!
Trés belle démonstration ! wonderful !
You might have pointed out that these tips are just for light, target shooting bows ! If you watch Joe Gibbs, Britain's top longbow shooter, all your statements about body stance go right out the window ! www.youtube.com/@Joegibbs-archery
Why not split fingers in traditional bow? I love your teaching way. Greetings from Buenos Aires Argentina!
Hello! You can do split if you want - a lot of it is personal presence. I would say most tend to stick with three under for barebow, while olympic style archers will choose the split finger - split finger allows you to get more distance! I like three under for beginners for several reasons - which I list in some of my videos! Hope this helps!
Yesterday I started my bow classes, it turns out that I am left-eye dominant being right-handed, I tried with both hands and yes, my aim is way better with the dominant eye, it's just that it is somewhat complex to use my left arm to tension the string.
It will all come together - give it time. I missed the target the first day after switching from right after 13 years! LOL
You made the process of putting together a recurve bow so easy to understand. Thanks for sharing your expertise, coach! 🙂
Thanks for watching!
Excellent content! You are a really good teacher! I've never used a bow and arrow before, but am now looking forward to take up archery! Thank You for this great video! GOD Bless! 🙏🏻
Thank you for watching!
Can’t properly express how much of a blessing finding your channel was to me! You’re clear AND detailed in your explanations and that’s not that easy a combo to find. Really, thank you so much for taking the time to share all this information with us, it’s very appreciated!!!!! Aside for complimenting you a lot, because you’re a great teacher and it shows (and I mean, having the experience you have it’s obvious it would be that way), I’m here for some questions: I’d like to start doing archery (I’m 20+) but I don’t have any place to learn archery at nor any archery related shop in my town or near it, so I have to learn and purchase online. I’ve been scouting around for equipment and found the “security gear”, so on that front all’s good. Now, as a beginner I don’t have that much knowledge on bows and especially arrows which I saw need several specifications to be assembled and used, starting from the material and going to the measurements. What would you suggest me? I don’t mean to compete, I’d just like to do target shooting as a means of stress relief - some do boxe, I’d like to use archery for it, I like the fluidity of the movements better and it’d be more satisfying XD So: 1 ) I think I’ve seen wooden arrows not be suggested that much because they’re heavier, right? What material do you think it’d be good to start with? I’d still need to understand the technicalities of arrow sizes and related, because from sites alone it’s a tad confusing and it might as well be my dyscalculia but even looking for information here and there doesn’t make it too clear 😅 2 ) For the bow, I was considering a 68’’ Windrunner takedown bow from Mandarin Duck (recurved) because I’ve read it be considered pretty adequate for a beginner, and most importantly-it’s available in Europe, which many of the beginner bows I’d looked for previously weren’t. Please let me know if you have any familiarity with it or if you confirm it to be a valid option to start with! 3 ) For the string, obviously it’ll wear down depending on usage, but regardless of that, how often do you think it should be changed? 4 ) Regarding the “string hand”: I’m actually right-handed, but my left eye is completely blind and it’d feel really meh/awkward trying to practice with my good eye far away from the target, even if I used my dominant hand; so I was considering purchasing a left-handed bow so as to be able to use my right eye instead, but do tell me if there are other ways or if I could do it differently, any tips are super welcomed! This was my very simple, novice archery enthusiast thought process 😂 I think that’s all? 👀 FORGIVE ME for the papyrus, but I wanted to explain myself as best as I could, hope everything was clear enough. Hope there weren’t any typos, I’m italian-french so sometimes the neo-latin oriented brain I have pranks me… Thanks in advance! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
As a new archer just starting out this was just a fantastic video and I can’t wait for the weather to improve (I am in the U.K. Jan 2025) so that I can try out all your advice. Thank you so much.
Thank you for watching! You will love it! Such an addicting sport! LOL
I will have my first archery class next Sunday, thanks for the advice. 🏹
Have fun! You are going to love it!
I found that a lot of compound bow shooters installed Speed Nocks on their bow strings to increase the bow speed, but traditional bow shooters don't. Would you tell me why? Why Speed Nocks can increase the speed of compound bow, but can't increase the speed of traditional bow? Thank you.
Thanks i am going to girl Scout camp next month and i have my own bow and target so i wanted to practice
have fun! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this list! It's great! Question: I'm a tall guy (6'5") and I measure out with a 31.5 draw length. I'm looking for a recurve that will match me. The Samick Sage looks great, but the draw length they sell is 28". Am i missing something or is it going to be hard to find a beginner bow for me?
Yes, the Samick Sage are all 62" bows, I believe! There might be some similar bows at 66". If you are looking for taller (68 or 70") - you might be look at an ILF bow to get the longer length! Hope this helps!
Excellent tutorial
Thank you!
This stuff is crazy. Girls that our hot can shoot a bow?
Good video. Very helpful.
Thank you for watching!
I'm new to archery, and after watching this video, there was a lot of things I realized i was doing wrong even after countless hours on UA-cam. Thank you for this content!
Thank you for watching! Glad it helped!
What about shooting with sight? At that point the hand is lower in the jaw. I'm unable to get to full draw due to the string catching against the side of my chest.😢
Yes, it might be the way you are standing - but I would have to see what your stance looks like. It could also be where you are anchoring - if you are anchoring too far back - the string will come back further on your chest. With a little tweak in your stance and anchor, I think we could easily fix your string placement so you don't hit your chest.
And yes, with a sight - you will be anchoring under the chin vs. the bare bow anchor that is up higher on the face.
I just found your channel. I have a question that I can't find real guidance on. I am right-handed/ right eye dominant. I have worn out my right shoulder from years in my line of work. I'm retired now. Can an old dog shoot left-handed?
great help, im used to crossbows but im recently into archery
I have my students lean forward slightly at the hips. Im not into follow through, rather prefer my students keep their hand on their face like Fred Bear did. With the grip another thought, pretend you’re holding a golf ball in your bottom fingers so you don’t put a death grip on the handle. Anyhow all great stuff thank you.😁
Yes, I like using chapstick tubes! LOL
As u can see it hit right in the yellow … 👀👀👀👀 I can’t see actually
Yeah - I should have zoomed in! LOL
Very informative Thqnks
"Coach Tara, these archery tips are fantastic! 🏹 The step-by-step guide on repairing arrows is super helpful and easy to follow. I’ll definitely be using these techniques next time my gear needs a fix-thanks for the great advice
Thanks! I'm glad you found the video helpful!
This is ONLY fore TARGET compatition shooters! Not acturreally archeres that Hunt! Its a beginner mistake to have 3 fingers UNDER the arrow. BIG beginner mistake.
Thank you for your opinion! This isn't just target archery - a lot of bare bow shooters will use this - especially if they want to string walk as their form if aiming! Split is definitely another option, but I make videos for beginners and find this as a great method for that group of archers learning to keep the arrow on the rest, etc
Wow, such a quick and easy guide! ⏱ I love how you broke it down into simple steps. Can’t wait to try putting my bow together now!
Feel free to post any questions here!
I started off with gap shooting, but I've been introduced to the dark art of string walking! I get better results with that. But for beginners I would recommend gap shooting.
Yes, I am the same as you. Start everyone with gap and then a lot move on to string walking!
Thank you, great advice. I have no shop nearby so have to buy online. They sold me a Gillo GYL ILF bow, I’m a 67 yo male , is that a good bow to start with?
That is a nice bow!
Nice tips always do my own repairs and I'd advise not to glue your nocks in... Mind you that I'm a beginner myself but you should have freedom to adjust the nock mid shooting.
This type has to be glued in or they fall off. There are different types that don't require glue. Thanks for sharing!
Great video! I’ve always wanted to learn archery, and this is such a helpful way to get started. Can’t wait to try it out!
Thanks, reminders of all that I learned several years ago before physical problems shut me down for a few years. 👍👍
