Great tips and information. I am reacquainting myself with the recurve an use a wood riser, wood/fiberglass limb 25 lb. draw weight beginner light mass recurve bow. I shoot in the driveway 20y at the 122cm face for now. Recreationally for now. I have been in the not too distant past a nationally competitive Sr. Games compound archer before pandemic, a cross-country move, and a torn rotator cuff on the bow arm shoulder in 2020 (Ortho treated and P.T.) and occasional impingement issues. Can't lift the mass of the compound bow so recurve it is!

So your saying lift the bow up as your drawing back the arrow vs starting from a 45 degree angle and coming downwards during drawing the arrow back. Ive seen it done both ways. Is coming up more effective? If so why?

I like to set the bow up before I draw the bow back! :)

Thanks for the tips. I noticed that after you released the arrow the bow string seemed to flop loosely a bit. Why is that ?

It's a samick sage, they are noisy bows but also great bows, I've had mine for awhile because i needed a less poundage bow, so went for the samick sage because they are probably one of the best bows for the price. Also the black Hunter is a great bow. And the way the limbs curve at top give them a unique sound, and makes the string wobble after release, especially on a lower poundage bow. If i was to recommend a bow for a bigginer for the price it would be the samick or black hunter. Both looks nearly the same.

@@digitaldogs233Sages have black limbs, that looks like a Galaxy Bullseye.
The string acts like that because it is a low poundage bow, and the arrows aren't perfectly tuned to the bow.

Hi Robert! I put a link in the description if you want to check it out! I like the Samick Sage bow. I also use the Galaxy Bullseye in my classes. Hope this helps!

solid advice, helps if you also pull the shoulder blades down as this also keeps the shoulder down. We do not load an arrow, Please nock an arrow, load a gun. loose an arrow. fire a gun 👍😉

Tbh i dont think its about how you lift the bow, verse how you hold it while shooting it, but i agree that lift would naturally put your bow arm shoulder locked in right. As im learning ive heard alot of instructors talk about equal force on the bow and the pull back, its why you dont want to hold the bow tight, one finger is enough and keeping the bow on the part of the hand just around the meaty part of the inner thumb. So yes great advice as while doing it now even without my bow it does naturally lock the shoulder in. Verse just lifting it then locking your shoulder in, its a much more fluid movement to.
