Bicycling Kansas City's Little Blue Trace Trail (April 17, 2024) Another KC Gem
We headed south for a 12-day road trip to enjoy some seasonably warm spring weather and ride some new bike trails. Our fifth day of riding (after a zero day due to high winds) was in the Kansas City area, and after riding the Rock Island Trail ua-cam.com/video/PYmR5K-Z8QI/v-deo.html in the morning with Julie I ventured out on the Little Blue Trace Trail. We had hoped to ride the Little Blue Trace Trail which was close to our hotel (Drury Inn), but 50+ MPH winds made day four a rest day. I rode 20 miles of the trail after helping with a medical emergency (crash on the trail) that took 30 minutes of my riding time away. The Little Blue Trace was a close second to the Rock Island but only slightly. It is scenic and well taken care of, but my favorite part was no road crossings! If you are in the Kansas City area, check out the Little Blue Trace Trail.

Thanks for the vid and info. Have you ridden the gap before? If not, any idea how good/bad the roads are in the gap? We're planning the KATY from KC this fall. Trying to decide if we want to ride or shuttle to a KATY trailhead from KC.

You are welcome. We have never ridden or even driven the gap between the end of the trail just southeast of Lee's summit to pleasant hill. My research seemed to indicate it would be rideable depending on your comfort level on roads. We are not very fond of road riding. Another option would be to do the full Katy from Clinton. We did that back in 2021 and it was a great ride. Thanks for watching.

Several of the concrete sections you spoke about have been put in areas that would hold water after a good rain. Also, the bridge you crossed right before you turned around at the north end is not closed from storm damage. You might have noticed the further north you go the more you feel away from civilization and more connected with nature. Thanks for sharing your ride!

Thanks for the insight on the seemingly random placement of cement. I did enjoy the more remote feel of the trail and it is a bummer on the storm damage. We are also dealing with storm and flood damage on different trails here in MN. Thanks for watching!

I was anticipating the slide area, a memorable part of the day back in '98. After that, the young trees crowding the way, brushing the panniers. Also the bear running across the trail in front of us on the way down to Seeley Lake.

Also, I have attended to people who have crashed without a helmet who have had pretty bad head injuries and concussions. Many thanks for posting this, and once again it was along much of the route we took from Sluis to Rotterdam to celebrate my 60th in 2022, so thanks for bringing back the happy memories. It really is a lovely place to cycle, even with the wind.

Glad you enjoyed it! It was indeed a beautiful area to bicycle and the weather made it a ride to remember. Thanks for watching!

Door County is one of my favorite places to ride roads. But love remote trails too. Will have to give this one a try next time up there. Cheers!

We prefer off-road trails if possible. Washington Island was fun due to the lack of traffic. It does look like one could ride some low traffic roads in door county. Definitely give the Ahnapee trail a try. Thanks for watching!

Glad the video was helpful. You may want to check the current trail conditions on the Wisconsin DNR website. From what I know from people who ride the trail last summer it is totally open but always good to double-check. Have a great ride, it is a wonderful ride. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for posting this, you guys are great ... a really positive attitude to cycling. We had the pleasure of living in the Netherlands in the early 1990s and love to go back. We have cycled the route you followed just about the same time a year earlier, Belgium was surprisingly great the Damse Vaart canal is very special.

Glad you enjoyed it! What was it like to live in the Netherlands? Of course the bicycling would be wonderful, but one always wonders what it would be like to live in a country versus visiting. Thanks for watching!

@@RichardMooreAndJulieMoore We really enjoyed it, we moved there in 1991 because we knew it was great for cycling and started our family there. In many ways I wish we had stayed. I watched the rest of the UA-cam clips over the last few days, it looked an amazing trip.
