  • We rode the upper 10 miles (Webster to Danbury) of the Gandy Dancer Trail over 25 years ago with our kids, and I have always wanted to ride the complete trail for years. Things worked out for me to sneak away for two days and do a bikepacking trip of the whole trail. Cool weather was in the forecast and supposedly no rain :-). The Gandy Dancer exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds and I would recommend it as a worthy destination for a 2-3 day bikepacking (or hoteling) trip. With decent-sized towns every 10 miles or so you can get food and drink along your way. There are plenty of options for camping or staying in a hotel.

Thanks for the video. I'll add this trail to my bucket list for next year or maybe try to get to it this year.

Your welcome. Definitely add it to your list. Given the weather today here in Minnesota and the long range forecast it would be a cold ride. I am still hoping for a stretch of warm weather in November. Thanks for watching!

We rode the Gandy Dancer from St. Croix to Lewis and back on September 2nd. We really enjoyed the trail. We'd like to bike the rest at some point. Was that a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich that you had at Adventures in Siren?

It was a Caribbean Pork Fritter Sandwich, basically a pork tenderloin with spices and a spicy coleslaw. Tasty and what I needed. Hope you get back to ride more of the Gandy Dancer. Hoping to get Julie out for a ride on it. Thanks for watching.

awesome richard!! nice ride. I am thinking about coming out to wisconsin in da summer to do a bike touring adventure. I am gonna put together some really nice rail trails starting around eau claire. i will be taking a bus from ga to eau claire and getting off da bus and start riding. i am tired of the heat down here in ga in the summer. i do really well in the heat , but getting older and it was brutal last summer. Do you have any suggestions? i am putting the gandy dancer on da list.

Richard is that one an E bike?

It is not, although many people have asked me that because the Trek Marlins have a pretty thick frame. No Ebikes yet for us, but at our age we know it is in our future. Hoping that price and weight come done considerably by then. Thanks for watching!

@@RichardMooreAndJulieMoore 50 miles on gravel is tough! On the KATY we would try to only do 40 miles at a time.

@@slalomking I was definitely hurting that first day as it was my first gravel ride of the year. When we did the Katy we also found 40ish miles a day to be a good amount, although we did have to stretch that to 48 miles between Jefferson City and Hermann.

@@RichardMooreAndJulieMooreI thought that was a Marlin. I have one too. My great grandfather was a Gandy Dancer for Frisco RR a long time ago.

@@dustysadventures Marlins make a nice all around bicycle. I find it a bit unresponsive for single track so I use my fat tire for that. Very cool that your grandfather was a Gandy Dancer. Thanks for watching!
