Bicycling Iowa's WAPSI Great Western Trail (April 14, 2024) Enjoying a Warm April Day

We headed south for a 12-day road trip to enjoy some seasonably warm weather and ride some new bike trails. After spending 2 nights in Lanesboro Minnesota to do 2 days of riding on one of our favorite trail systems, the Root River Trail, we headed to Des Moines. Looking at the route Google Maps recommended for our drive, I noticed we would be bisecting the WAPSI Great Western Line Trail in Riceville. This is a trail I have had in the back of my mind for us to ride and this seemed like a perfect opportunity. With strong northerly winds, we rode 11 miles north into the wind to start and enjoyed a quick trip back to Riceville. Iowa never seems to disappoint with their bicycle trails and if you are in the area, give this fun trail a try!
