We found the SMART way to play Vanguard in Stormgate

Hey guys, this is a guide for opening hornet vs infernal, and it is very effective at shutting down the doombringer drop. In fact I created this style because I kept losing to Parting so much. Transitioning into Mech is the way to go, but you can play hornet lancer for a while as well. You will force gaunts, and lancers and vulcans are then very good against the gaunt. gonna try this, thx for the video marine is among my favourite units so this build is something for me im fairly new to the game and didn't know if they can be that effective so i always teched too early and probably its one of the reasons why im stuck - early void ray rushes and similar tactics from opponents usually quickly ends my matches im stuck in silver so i hope i can get out with this :D

    The fact that most of the top players are Korean puts them at a disadvantage. Rogue never broke through a GSL quarter-final between them before, but later got stronger. In the meantime, he lost a lot of points in the metrics you covered, getting beaten by other top players. Serral, on the other hand, got stronger as he built winning percentages against much weaker opponents in the circuit scene, which was protected by region lock. That's the difference. (Being strong alone in a weak region is something special and great about Serral.) Even if he had spent his long gamer life in the KOR scene, he wouldn't have a whole lot of win% difference against top players, so you know why? He didn't have the ability to go high enough to meet them in the past. One of the jokes in former professional gamer Korean commentator Crank's broadcast is that his and Serral's overall score is 2-0. We all know Serral is the strongest player in recent times, but the word goat, as it's included in this acronym, is about All time performance, and your statistical indicator has a problem with dealing with the past.

    This may be a video meant for players a little more experienced than me (brand brand new) so these questions could be obvious but I have a few: When should I chronoboost and on what upgrades? It seems like each warp is 2 high templars and the rest zealots, correct me if I’m wrong? Besides chargelot archons and immortals being the composition I can’t rly tell when you’re making them and how many of each? When you say make immortals and observers it seems like you make 1 observer first and then just bang out immortals, when should you do an immortal first for defense? How do you use the observer effectively? Ok that’s all, any answered questions would really help me get started with this build, great video!

    • @ProbeSC2
      @ProbeSC2 16 днів тому

      You can get the chrono boost timings from the video, but it's one after first pylon on nexus, two after 2nd pylon (nexus and gateway). Then one on robo, then focus chrono on probes until saturated. Then focus on charge and attack upgrades. For warp ins, Warp in as many pairs of ht as you can afford, and the rest zealots. Everytime you can warp in, you want to do it, there is no thinking. If you're a beginner just follow the order. The build is designed so that you can't even really afford the immortal straight away, so we get an observer. Wouldn't worry too much about the observer. It will keep you safe from dts and banshees. If you really had to optimise it you would probably send it across the map, but it's such a low priority. Focus on macro.

    hmm years later i still think grid is super alien but you can take away principles of it. i use left side but i reduced the work my pinkie has to do. i changed my laptops keys entirely where i put shift on capslock so my pinkie can go one row up wich is mor comfy than having it down there. i unbound ctrl and put ctrl to my side mousebutton. so now my thumb is doing space and alt and my pinkie only presses one button wich is capslock. my mouse equals control groups while my keyboard equals camera locations. so i have alt+capslock + qwerasdf to create camera location and alt qwerasdf as jump to locations. and i have sidemousebutton+capslock qwerasdf as controlgroups and sidemousebutton qwerasdf to use controlgroups. and the other sidemousebutton is tab. and most of the important spells are all on spacebar. so spellcaster use is mainly spacebar and alt qwe are my first 3 bases, sidemousebutton qwe is my production for barracs/factory/starport stuff like that. it sounds confusing but all i have to remember is: qwe movement commands, alt qwe camera and mouse qwe controlgroups. for the most part i only use those 3. because as a gold player i simply dont have a use for, nor can i manage like 6 camera locations. 3 bases and production is usually enough. biggest gamechanger for me tho was unbinding add and create controlgroup. and only using add and steal. it kind of does the exact same thing as create and steal so i didnt see a need to have both. both do the same: move a unit into a controlgroup and delete it somewhere else. if i select all my barracs it literally does not matter if i use add and steal or create and steal, they both create a new controlgroup. that way i opened up an entire modifier key to do other things

    i played over a decade of zerg. multiple master. i only came back to try toss. practised a month of macro. multitasking trainer. minute micro. custom maps. ladder. everything what comes after the 2nd base. it gets complicated. or maybe after the third base. even after this month. toss macro is still very hard to master for me personally. i gave this build a shot. practised it twice vs A.I. and then on ladder 3 games (3,5k mmr). 1 vs each race. everytime easy win so far. i am surprised how easy it was. i will definitely play this build more. edit: 6 wins in a row. this build feels good.

  • @MaybeTiberius

    awesome guide and build. i recently came back to sc2 and for some reason started playing terran and it feels really nice and fun. contradicting to what a lot of people say about ''terran is so hard and you need like 800 apm micro for bio'' honestly i find its rather easy. you dont need 800apm micro against not so great players. i m just a gold player. i can literally just a f2 a move my main army over, and then have a medivac filled with marines click it to the opponent base and shift click unload so it unloads when it gets there without further micro and it will be totally fine. and i think terran goes really easy on you in the way its more forgiving on mistakes it feels like. macro cycle on terran is really simple. supply drop can counter supply block, mule can counter a bit laziness on workers and you can just select all raks and hold down a button to que like 50 marines and once your fight is over you already have a new army at home. on the other side with toss or zerg, if you miss an inject or you miss lavae production once or you miss your warp in cycles once, you re pretty much screwed because you have no backup army.

    • @Fimbu1vetr
      @Fimbu1vetr Місяць тому

      Yeah that tends to happen with nexus first. You can get your core first, then nexus (20 core 20 nexus) so your first adept comes out faster. But if you don't change the build, are you able to get your nexus down by 1:23? (a few seconds late is acceptable) If not, remember to split workers at the start of the game and rally workers like Probe (saturate close patches first, 2 workers per mineral patch). In particular, after you build the first assimilator, the 2nd worker should be rallied to your natural to build your nexus. You can also sometimes make a reaper cliff wall to prevent reapers from jumping into your main.

    This strategy is great, untill you verse your average terran. It doesn't seem to matter what you play, they just turtle with tank viking lib planetary, etc and mass ghosts, BCs etc. I just cant do anything to them. what should I do here?

    • @ProbeSC2
      @ProbeSC2 Місяць тому

      Well TvT definitely is the toughest matchup with this style. But if you are struggling against them getting mass ghost and BC, well you should be winning well before then. Realistically when you attack they might have a couple of tanks, which can be tough, but they aren't going to have planetarys and libs. So my advice is to first check your replays and cross reference them with the timings in the video. If you aren't hitting them then you know what to improve on. The secondly if you are and still struggling to break the turtle I would look at focusing your attacking efforts on your 2nd push with medivacs and tanks.

    • @romany3646
      @romany3646 Місяць тому

      @ProbeSC2 I got a chance to check this recently, my timings are definitely off (just not used to macro yet), however by the first attack they still tend to get one or two tanks up on the high ground with a wall off, how should I fight that?

    • @ProbeSC2
      @ProbeSC2 Місяць тому

      Continue with the game plan of getting Medivacs. Do a drop while pushing the front. If it keeps going you'll have your own tanks and can slow push with them. The nice thing is that you have versatile units. You can be creative how you use them. All this being said though, macro is the biggest thing. You can trade poorly vs tanks if you macro better than your opponent.

      It plays out a bit differently to sc2. I wouldn't call it dumbed down. It does help in certain areas but that just leaves more room to multitask. Overall though I'm just playing and enjoying it because it's new, and quite fun. Yes I was high rated in aoe4, and almost hit 2k in the 3 months I played aoe2. They are fun, but aoe4 unit control was really annoying. Sc2 and Stormgate are miles ahead in that regard. Aoe2 was really fun, but it's just a different kind of RTS than I enjoy. A lot of hard counters.

      @@ProbeSC2 Congrats on your successes and mastery of RTS games! If you've never tried it, I highly recommend Rise of Nations. I think it's the best of the "Age-style" RTSs -- starts with spears and arrows all the way up to tanks, jet fighters, and nukes, so it adds the 3rd dimension of air combat which AOE lacks. RON is highly rated, yet somewhat of a sleeper as it didn't get the attention it deserved. I hope they do a Definitive Edition someday. So would you recommend skipping AOE4? Is AOE2 better than AOE4 overall? (AOE3 sucked in my opinion...lol... bought it when it came out and couldn't get into it.)

    I like your content, but isn't this number highly inflated, and therefore not accurate, as it is time logged into the server rather than actual game play time...?? You could be sleeping, watching TV, or out cutting your grass, and yet if you're logged onto the server, it's logging as "game play" time, but it's really not. So it's more or less a worthless number. Way more interesting to know actual game play time! Have you asked Blizzard if that can be determined? I wouldn't think it would be that complicated at all, just add up the times of each individual game. Or even better, compile two numbers, the aforementioned total game play time, but also time you're "actively on the server" --- changing settings, pre-game setup, help screen learning, etc. I think Steam gives the same inaccurate time. It says I've been playing certain games for hours that I know I haven't.

    Idk if this is just personal experience, but this build doesn’t really work against stalker/colossi builds. I’ve seen this a lot of times, and it tends to just fall apart when I camp right outside your base with an army of stalkers and a few colossi/immortals. What is the strategy against things like that? Also, it feels a little map-dependent, due to the strange nature of Post-Youth LE in modern ladder.

      Well colossus definitely aren't the way to go about beating this. Chargelot immortal archon will have a very good time. My advice for judging it would be to check your supply at 6:30 and their supply, and cross reference it with the video. More stuff beats less stuff. I wouldn't worry about the maps from an offensive point of view. Again more stuff beats less stuff regardless, but how easy it is to initially defend stuff will help get the build going.

    Even 2 years later this build is still so strong at its roots I’ve gotten to masters very easily (with a few slight changes) after not playing for years

      Went from losing like 90% of games in silver to winning most in low masters
