A NEW name emerges! Seahawks to interview Grant Udinski for offensive coordinator job
The #Seahawks want to speak to 28-year-old #GrantUdinski about the vacant offensive coordinator position. It's an interesting name, as explained in the video. I also discuss Klint Kubiak's fit in Seattle.

Hopefully they turn over every stone no matter how long it takes, just get it right
For the selfish purpose of consistency I would like a rubbish head coach who is an awesome OC play caller so we can keep him for a few years. But I'm sure it'll be fine.
nice
Sounds like a passing game coordinator rather than an OC. The plat calling hasn’t been right for years
Go Hawks. Get it right 🎉🎉
I was born in Seattle, so I love my "team" over individual players. And I'm just getting comfortable enough to watch several podcasts for back to back weeks, and let me tell you, Rob and Salk are my 2 favorites for Hawks news. Keep up the good work Rob and GoHawks!!
“You hope they know who they want” Tee Martin makes sense as option A. Kubiak coming available might have been a surprise. Due diligence is definitely being done. I think it comes down to Tee, Kubiak and Udinski
Really appreciate your updates and perspective, keep up the great work!
I think some of you are overthinking this and glorifying/overrating these said “brilliant minds”, the Seahawks don’t need a tactician in the OC role, they need a vet/proven playcaller who can lead men (not only players, but other coaches too!) and operate the whole unit, think about what Wade Phillips was in McVay’s first two years as HC. Please don’t experiment or overcomplicate this, we don’t need the Good Will Hunting of Football. I mean, look at his role according to his own boss “assistant offensive coordinator/assistant quarterbacks coach.” His unofficial roles include: mentor to McCarthy; post-practice pass rusher or receiver for Sam Darnold; advance scout and practice lieutenant for Phillips; complement to QB coach Josh McCown; “Crazy Grant” to O’Connell’s kids; confidant, protégé and occasional comedic target for O’Connell. The Seahawks simply need a coach who is able to play complimentary football, consistently produce extended drives and don’t mess up in the red zone or allow your unit to abuse flags and turnovers. Not rocket science.
McVay was promoted to by OC by Washington with no play calling experience. After two successful seasons working with Cousins he became HC of the Rams. If they think he's on a similar trajectory, then why not. It's definitely going to be an interesting hiring process. Excited to see who gets the job. Thank for the updates on Current and Possible candidates Rob. Keep up the great content.
Hank F & BT & GU seem very fine.
I was listening to Brian’s pod and was very interested in this 28 year old. I like the fact that he’s all about football. And Sean was hired as the Rams head coach when he was 30 so yeah. I’m liking the search they’re doing this time. Have to give John and Mike credit
Thanks!
Thanks Glen!
I don’t believe this is for oc I think it’s more for a positional coaching job…..
Why would he leave a fantastic situation working with O’Connell to take a sideways positional job in Seattle?
@ for more opportunities? He’s not calling the plays in Minnesota, but could potentially get more experience getting some more coaching under his belt and possibly be a play caller down the line.
I see Sam Darnold, replacing Geno, after the playoffs price may be coming down.
I wonder how creative Udenski is? What are his communication skills? Can he relate the offense to the players?
I’m a simply person Rob makes a vid I click!! Best person covering the Hawks period!
Pretty soon we’ll have a 21 yr old OC😂😂
If a guy has IT,he just has IT. Regardless of age. Sounds like he and Mike would get along really well.
Thank you so much for the reporting Rob. Wouldn't know most of these without you introducing them to us
Rob lives 8 hours ahead of Pacific time, which allows him to get to the stories first. Adam Schefter is so jealous.
😂
Hank Fraley has my vote
Lets get former Rams HC Jeff Fisher out of retirement and put the league on notice!
28 years old??? OMG
I have a interesting idea….hire a offensive coordinator who is young and full of creativity. Also hire a offensive coordinator to delegate the ideas and schemes to the team. This would be a more respected and experienced person. Might be worth a try.
Here comes a new challenger
No way
immediately #1 candidate in my opinion.
People talked bout grubb being to pass happy wasnt mcbay pass happy last night and dont want vikings coach there o line was bad last night
If you are capable of passing, then do it. And are we supposed to only hire team with good lines? So Eagles and Lions?
So you don't want to lend from two of the best systems in the NFL?
Damn I missed you live I would’ve super chatted my donation!!! Next time Rob! Peace ✌🏾!!! I will ask this question? Who is your choice for OC?
At the minute I'd be happiest with Kubiak, this guy or McCown
@ brother I was thinking the same thing and possibly Kafka
Perhaps he's being interviewed for another role and bring in Darnold?
The report said he was being interviewed for the OC role. Doubt he'd leave O'Connell for a sideways type move
I wondered about another role (qb coach) or for the NEXT time we hire someone, since he’s so young. Some of these interviews are to establish connections. Pete used draft visits the same way early on. Knew the guy for when he was a free agent.
@@robstatonfootballis it a step back tho? Isn’t he just an assistant?
Dang Rob outstanding work on your part
thx Rob ahead of the curve already offering up insights with the up and coming coaches similar to your Adam Gase with Benn Johnson's past
Boy that was quick Rob!
I see new Rob video I click
28 for OC is crazy, why arent we checking out McCown?
Because he might end up a HC.
We might be
Rob, is the shine off Darnold after the loss to the Rams?
Clearly yes but that might just make him cheaper. He still had a 14 win season
It also seemed like I was watching the Seahawk’s O-line. I know you’ve gone over that he and Geno’s time to throw was pretty similar. And man it sucked seeing the Rams win.
I don't understand the defensive HC has trouble retaining OC. Like the inverse isn't also super common. McVay has had a ton of DCs and so has whiners boy. It doesn't matter.
Because if they are good, they get hired away. Then you have to replace and possibly put in a new system. Then if you have a young qb, that hurts development too often. Offensive coaches are in MUCH higher demand.
i would LOVE to see the Seahawks interview John Gruden......if he's not a fit, that's ok, but let's just call him in for a look-see so Mike McDonald and John can see if they have a common vision.
Off-season priority #1. Get rid of Schneider. Bring in Rob staton and Curtis Allen
😂
nice
The Hawks are going to sign Geno. They will offer him 35 to 40 in a team friendly structure for three or even five year contract with potential voidable years, signing money and incentives.
No thanks, Geno's dead cap is rather low at 13m, it would be cheaper to move on from Geno now than to extend him at that price for 3-5 years and have to cut him a year or 2 later.
I’d be surprised if they offer that much.
@@robstatonfootball I don’t think they will. But I think that’s were they’ll settle. Moves him up the salary ladder a bit.
@ I’m not sure they’ll go to that, in part because I doubt he’d get it anywhere else. That’s considerably more than if they move on
Geno is a very solid bridge QB, but there needs to be something on the other side of the bridge to build and look forward to! That's the problem with being around 9-8 every season. You only sometimes make the playoffs, and if you do you're one and done because you can't compete with the best teams in the NFC, but you also don't get any top 5-10 draft picks that could be used to get your young franchise QB! I'm not advocating for tanking, but I also acknowledge that a lot of teams have to really suck for a couple years to get those high draft picks that turn into your blue chip players you can build around, including your franchise QB!
I agree, that's why I'd trade both Geno and Walker for 2026 draft capital. Then I'd invest heavily in the O-line, and find a cheap QB for 1 year, even if it means playing 900k per year Sam Howell for 1 year, if they only win 5 games so be it, the O-line will have a year to gel together, then I'd take that high pick and draft capital and go after one of the best QB's in the 2026 draft. Sometimes a team needs to take a step back in order to take multiple steps forward. Also, it's not tanking if Howell is giving it his all, along with the rest of the players.
Paying a 35 year old Geno 44m next year or extending him would do the exact opposite of taking multiple steps forward.
Great show guys!
It is always fun having Rob on the show!
Come on we all have situations at work where we are 100% “involved” in a decision that was not our choice. My company does stuff all the time I am 100% involved in that are stupid and short sighted. This debate about how involved Mike was is dumb. Mike had a selection of bad decisions on OC and now we can fix it
When it comes to Geno people always go “Who else better are you going to get” overpaying for mediocrity is a recipe for doom. Strive for better if that means some risk, go for it
Great crossover episode!
I'm just done w/Geno. Like Mike Sando said yesterday on the Hawkblogger podcast 'its the constant RedZone brain farting' that's made him so polarized and unpopular with this fan base (plus, the piss poor home record and play of the offense in general at Lumen). If we can't get Darnold, I'm ready to take Zach Wilson on the cheap and spent booku bucks on our o-line to protect him. I have seen games where Wilson beat the brakes off Josh Allen. He's shown some real flash as to why he went 2 in his draft IMO...and if I'm wrong maybe we'll be in the running to take a high pick at QB in 2026
I’d rather pass on Wilson. When you have consistency, maturity, and motivation issues, along with just not laying well, it’s not really worth setting the offense back a year.
I see your point Wilson's had some Levis-like character issues. But I'm hoping getting traded away and downgraded to being a rookies backup has humbled him a bit. The dude was constantly compared to Mahomes his last year at BYU...do I think he has more upside and chance for a Darnoldesque projection/reclaimation than Jones or Howell. Yes. Most importantly he'd be a tenth the cost of Geno
@@zappadadooi90Levis didn’t have any of those issues. He was said to be too cocky and could rub people the wrong way. People worried about Wilson’s maturity and motivation; how much he cared or if he would even work at it. And comparing him to Mahomes would have been a bad comparison. He’s ran off script too much and was just a better athlete. I don’t think there is a point in brining him in, or either Jones, Howell, anyone else that hasn’t shown much of anything. Daniel Jones has at least played well, even if it was for one season. Better to just bring in a veteran that can play competently and be cheap. Then just draft someone late for that same hope and no character issues. But I 💯 get the mindset. The hope of catching SOMETHING when there a really isn’t any other option. If they do it, I’ll be rooting for it to work.
If geno is too expensive I’d consider getting Russ back for a 2Y 10m type deal.
Feel like we don’t give Mike enough credit for what he brings on a defensive level. Ernest jones and spoon bring up how he’s always one step ahead of offenses and having him is like having a 12th man on the field as a coach. Can’t point to a single player on the defense this year that can say they got worse from the year before. Many breakouts were from the defensive side of the ball. The ETHOS of this team is defense. Having an offensive minded coach is cool but the reality is, defenses eventually adapt, on top of the fact that your success as an OC is dependent on the QB position. If you can get the QB position right, the offense will be good. McDermott and demeco Ryan’s are good examples of this. We don’t discuss these things when we discuss HC candidates.
Best conversation about the QB situation I have heard , excellent .. Rob like you I suffer from the UK every week its hard work to watch as it has been for the last 10 years , I dont need another LOB thats a once in a lifetime , just give me something to hang my hat on , PROGRESS.....please
Rob has a great view on QBs and one of the few people I respect when it comes to evaluating the position.
Who you gonna replace him with?
