You've got 25 first round rated players on your board and 46 rated 2nd round value. It would be a good day's work if the Seahawks can turn #16 into a player from the former group AND a player from the latter.

This is really insightful...I am sure there are dozens of ways these tea leaves could be read, but I hope Abe Lucas is able to go this year at any O-line position and we add talent to the interior of the O-line or replace Abe Lucas at RT for the future. Linebacker and Safety are positions where we need serious depth still as well.
Don’t know how much I agree or view things the same way, but I always appreciate your perspectives and explanations. Also, commenting for the algorithm gods.
Rob, your analysis over the past few years has been spot on, despite what others have tried to preach and don’t see any reason not to believe your thought. I’d personally trade down, get another 2nd and another 3rd for it and even trade down again seeing that there is loads of talent for those holes left to fill in the draft. But is thier history of JS trading down or not, he didn’t the past 2 drafts. As for QB, if Seattle move on from Geno in 2025, they save $25m in cap space, so run with Geno this year, cut him and have a draft QB sit behind Howell for a yr and then move on from Howell.
Outstanding analysis. In an ideal world we have more draft capital to go after the multiple great picks in the top 100. Not having a 2nd round pick and giving up our higher 3rd really sucks. It is what it is though and I'm hoping one of the 2 OL guys are still there and we get one. I love Fautanu personally. If not then we go for more picks at that point and trade down I totally agree and can't imagine it goes any other way.
Great video. I agree that it seems they have addressed every position, but the LG and we still have some flexibility to go BPA (OL) at 16 or possibly trade back to recover picks. I remember mentioning Lucas to OG last season with a guy like Darnell Wright as a potential RT draft pick. What are your thoughts on Zack Zinter? In my opinion, I’m thinking he’s still a Top-100 pick due to the injury and I’d love to draft him if we could acquire some additional picks.
I take Zinter and Mason McCormick in my mocks a lot. Mason could be a starting LG and Zinter would be the starting RG if he's healthy in time for the season.
I have been thinking this too, Lucas at left guard would be good for him because it should be better on his knees and John has commented openly how hard and out of control the guard market is.
Great analysis Rob. I think they trade down at least once if not twice. Take best guard or DL avail and end of first. And second. and then LB for depth in third.
Another thought.... they could move Lucas to RG since he's always been a right side player, and slide Bradford to the left (he played quite a bit of LT at LSU)
are there any players on roster you could see flipping for picks, or the likelihood of trading draft capital from next year to move into round 2 for a specific player?
@stevendownard2663 Thinking that KW is worth a R2 Pick plus is the funniest thing I saw today. He is average and might get a R4 Pick if they were lucky
I’m curious about Pete’s mentality of building a program that wins every year is something John also believes in. That might dictate how they draft. They might believe the roster is Super Bowl caliber which would mean a lower chance of moving back to fill the roster with quantity. Rather, they’d stick and choose supposed quality.
At one point people were universally projecting Fauga top 10, and Fautanu from 18-28. Now I see Fautanu top 20 and a few mocks with Fauga mocked to Seattle at 16. I could see them moving back and snagging Rosengarten at the end of the 1st, and move him to guard. He actually reminds me a lot of Abe Lucas. Natural tackle, but needs 15 pounds.
As of right now, I'd say Fuaga will not get out of the top-10. I think Fautanu could easily go between 10-15 but he could last to 16. I can imagine Rosengarten being on the radar but he'd be day two

Can totally agree with Fuaga and Fautanu being top targets. Wonder if they're both gone the Seahawks would strongly consider pivoting to a Jared Verse or Chop Robinson instead of the other tackles if somehow one of them are available at 16? The concern with trading back is while they will get very likely get offers at 16 and say trade to 25 via Packers, there might not be additional trade partners to further trade back from 25, and isn't a ton of talent difference between 25 and 40 in this class therefore diminishing the value at 25. Will be fascinating to see if we would rather prefer one potential blue chip at 16 (Fautanu or Chop Robinson) or two solid players after trading back to 25 and picking up a 2nd rounder like a Cooper Beebe and Junior Colson combo.

Would be nice but they have Cam Young. Are there true NT's in this draft? Sweat is awesome but he plays way more passing downs and might not play 40% of snaps his first season.
I think Seahawks have their development QB with Howell. I would be shocked if they take a QB above the 4th or later. Howell is the same age as several of the top QB prospects and is younger than Nix. He has a year of experience and could become the eventual starter.
Why are people so into starting qb ages? Being young and not that good doesn't necessarily mean you'll get better. Being older as a starter doesn't mean you can't be good for a decade. If you get a decade of high play that's a win.
I find it so interesting that every Seahawks podcaster is obsessed with the Offensive side of the ball, when this team was ranked 30-32 in almost every Defensive category. Using the same logics, the Seahawks do not have a nose tackle on the roster, so they should be trying to take a Nose tackle, the most underrated position in football. But the Seahawks went into last year playing a 3-4 without a single DT over 310 lbs (let alone 340) and we wondered why the D line was getting blown off the ball for ten yard runs all year. I think JS picks on the defensive side of the ball in order to make his Defensive coach successful. Hopefully some beef for the D Line. If they use their too two picks in offensive I will predict that the Seahawks will have a top 10-12 offense and win 9 games because their defense gives up a record number of rushing yards.
Seahawks offense was #17th in scoring. Horrible at time of possession. Terrible in the redzone. The defense sucked but the offense only seemed good by comparison.
@@robstatonfootballisn't the saying "defense wins championships"? Wasn't it the defense (and Lynch) that made that team great? Taking a QB with a high pick is ridiculous this season. O-line is definitely an issue. But it's obvious, based on squad rankings last season that D-line is a huge need.
@@iron_bisonwell let's be honest, that offense was hindered by injuries at both Tackle positions and across the middle of the Line. Effecting both the passing and running games. Defense lost far more games the last two seasons than the offense did.
Abe Lucas is 6 ft 6 That is too tall for inside in my humble opinion. Could struggle with Leverage. Could be worth a shot though if he is unable to continue at Tackle.
Miami literally just saw one of their top performing guards who is 6-6 sign a $20m a year deal. It is not too tall for a guard and he won’t have any issues with leverage
Yeah, I'd say Fautanu and scoot him to LG - that seems to be where our biggest need is and the most logical fit for him as a player to give him the best chance in the NFL. Should be interesting. If we could trade down and snag two 2nds, that would be ideal, though. Not sure about Lucas at LG, though - he's super tall which could be a problem at that position
The only real question about Abe Lucas playing LG that I've heard is that he's too tall (6'5"). I assume those people think he'd have a hard time winning the leverage battle. Not saying I agree, just that it seems to be the counter-point.
My thought on this for success is to trade down and pick up that 2nd and other. That void between the 1st and 3rd is just too great. They need some numbers between the sweet zone of the draft. They're too separated as it is right now, especially after the trade. I Hope to see a trade down on draft day. I don't have a huge beef with the QB trade. Even though the trade value difference amounts to a total of a bottom 3rd round worth of points (almost 119, Drafttek scale). Pretty expensive for a backup QB but I trust John to do what he can for the situation.
Amazing stuff as always Rob1. One idea I want to get your thoughts on. Given Schneider’s comments on guard and the depth of this class I could see him waiting until Round 3. This team needs a QB and a game wrecking D-Lineman before we can be truly elite. So if they don’t rate the QBs available wouldn’t sticking and picking for Chop Robinson (if he lasts) make a lot of sense? I know DE is not the biggest need but he and Bog Cat could turn that group into a real strength. That then lets you go all in on a QB next year.
I have Sam Howell blinders on in that he seems like someone who could correct his flaws and become a legit NFL QB. I can see it the other way as well but with a side of legit hope. Am I alone in this? Other question: Howell or Bo Nix?
Great analysis as usual Rob 👍🏻 how would your assessment change if they went Johnny Newton with their first pick? *notice I didn’t say they were picking him at 16 😂 🇨🇦♥️🫶🏻
I think it’s unlikely based on body type, the fact they paid Williams and just a bit of chatter about how he is around team mates (quite demanding, can get after people)
If they are moving Lucas inside then we need to get the best guy we can at 16. Moving down just increases the chance that we get a mediocre tackle. Unlike DT, we don't rotate OT so we need someone solid at that position. A bonafide good player! 🤔
Agree with the draft analysis totally, but disagree that Howell is not very good. Coaching makes a big difference and saw some film on him placing dimes in tight windows after going through the progression. If the line is improved and he's coached on getting the ball out a little sooner, gets better on not taking chances because he has better options in the run game, he could be a lot better, i.e. less interceptions.
Macdonald hated our safeties and ILB, he let them all go except for Love. Now they have 2 new ILB, 1 new safety, a TE, and QB. Guard, TE, Speed rusher, and DL is where they're spending their draft capitol. They should be able to get who they want dropping to 25 in the 1st rd.
@@MegaTriumph1but we need to remember. Who a blue chip player on draft day and who is a blue chip player actually playing can be different. Davante adams, Chris jones as some examples. Kupp, Sherman, possibly nacua as well.
If blue chip player falls to the Seahawks at 16 then that will be the pick. For now it looks like about 4 or 5 QBs in the top 15 , 2 to 3 wide receivers top 15 , 1 tight-end , maybe 2 offensive tackles , 1 or 2 corners , and 2 or 3 defensive lineman. So it's looking very interesting at 16.
They signed George Fant for right tackle. I think they did this because of Lucas injuries last year. I don't think they are taking a tackle worth Cross, Lucas, Fant, and Forslythe on the team.
What have the Vikings just done to help trade up for a QB, they've got themselves a second 1st round pick. It's not too early to start thinking ahead for next year, meaning any trade down for me has to include a 2025 1st round pick. This might mean trading out of round 1, but this is where having a plan matters.
I’d take Troy Fauntanu for the offensive line. I like Byron Murphy for D-tackle! @16! Or trade down to get more draft capital! Lots of options available folks. I’d like them take Christian McCaffrey’s brother, a WR’er who can play any position as a wideout and he could be a gadget player on RPOS! Luke McCaffrey has truly elite athleticism and an amazing family tree. His father Ed played 13 years in the NFL and his mom was a collegiate soccer star! I think his grandfather was an Olympian! And we could get him in the 4-7 rounds…
Im still not stoked about the Howell trade. The cheapness of his contract being the lone positive in a net negative to me. Had we not gotten him, what’s the worst case scenario? Geno gets injured and is out for the season. Well, whomever is the backup aint taking us to the superbowl this year. It’s unlikely Geno will. And if the backup plays all year, the fans may not be super excited about the year, but no one is gonna be pointing fingers in anger. I think we should have kept the picks and built for next year. And got a warm Body to be our backup
Look at the past 10 Super Bowl winners, outside of Brady or Mahomes no one who won it had a top 3 quarterback. Foles had a stacked roster and played unbelievably, Russ had the LoB, Flacco had the Ravens defense, Stafford played his role well on a good Rams team that played against a terrible Bengals o-line. Point is you’re never going to get this franchise changing quarterback until either it happens or doesn’t, and even then you’re not guaranteed to even make it to the Super Bowl or win one. Josh Allen is still chasing one, Burrow came close but he’s becoming injury prone and might never get back there. Winning the Super Bowl is like all The stars aligning at the perfect place and time, like for the Eagles in 2017.
Foles and the Eagles are a major exception to the rule. Russell Wilson was fantastic. Flacco had one of the all time greatest post-season runs and was a first rounder. Stafford is/was fantastic and a former #1 overall pick. Allen & Burrow make their teams relevant in a way we can only dream of currently. You don't have to twist things to try and argue against reality
I'm closer to Rob on this one. Russell may not have been a top 3 QB in 2013/14, but he was certainly top 5. Either Mahomes, Brady, or one of the Mannings have won 14 out of the last 23 Super Bowls. It's not impossible to win a Lombardi without a top-flight QB, but it sure is harder.
The Abe Lucas idea is just very out of pocket in my opinion. Because of one injury he’s gonna be moved from a position he excelled in his rookie year? Yea just makes no sense to do it to me.
Could JS be throwing out big smokescreen.... he mentioned that he thought guards are over drafted and overvalued on the radio last week. I believe it is 15% chance they stay at #16, but if one of the premium OT are available, you "have to" take them. Oh oh..... when everyone is thinking zig, Seahawks zag. If OT Olumuyiwa Fashanu makes it to 16, very unlikely, you got to take the kid.
Call me stubborn, call me crazy but I'd STILL draft Penix at 16 (I saw a projection today that has him currently going #31 to Las Vegas,,so he'll probably be available at 16). I just know that Howell kept getting continuously benched in the final half of the season last year for WA: he's not the future, and neither's Geno. Penix surprised me with his 40 time, and I like the familiarity w/ Grubbs offensive--which gives him a leg up out the gate if we address the offensive line with signings and some of the remaining picks
I'm just not convinced Penix is enough of a sure thing to be worth a 1st-round pick. If you're going to take a QB in the 1st, you'd better be 100% confident that he's your guy, and that he's going to be great. I think Penix has a *chance* to be great, and maybe it's more likely than not he'll be great, but am I 100% percent sure he'll be great with no reservations? No. Therefore, I don't think you can pull the trigger.
@@AbbeyRoadkill1 I think in a way you justify my choice: it's time to take a chance. They had two chances to take Levis last year, and didn't do it (whether that was the right thing to do or not, still to early to tell) but QB is the most important position in all of sports, and it's time after over two seasons, to look for a franchise QB whether it pans out or not I believe
Chicago needs a true X reciever. Trade Metcalf & Geno for #9, Geno can help Bears new Qb with termanology ect with Waldron. Boom our ammo better then Viks, D Maye and our new backup are buds & will allow Mayes transition. We need a qb, no more messing around!
I agree. John S is gonna pull some strings & shock people. The Patriots might be interesting in this too. Hawks need some cap space after all these signings. They'll get more picks that are earlier & give up later ones. So they could go for Penix,Troy, Polk or McMillion. I think this is why they signed a lot of LB's, DB's TE's. They always find a gem in the undrafted too. These picks will make so many fans happy here. I wish they could get Odunze but may not be able to. Bobo's gonna get his opportunity.
They are a horrible team when it comes to finding qb's. There is a franchise QB going to be available to them and this team is too stupid to see it and know it.
That Witherspoon picture is cold asf😮💨

@@iron_bisonwell let's be honest, that offense was hindered by injuries at both Tackle positions and across the middle of the Line. Effecting both the passing and running games.
Defense lost far more games the last two seasons than the offense did.
@@randyrenner7643 'Defense wins Championships' is just a football cliche. Based on your plan, the Seahawks will live eternally in a 9-8 world.
It’s a good o-line class, wouldn’t shock me if they moved out of round entirely.
@@robstatonfootball Time will tell. I hope your right . I like Abe Lucas.
Is it possible we are following the niners blueprint? Basically free young qb, has better arm than purdy
9ers blueprint Seahawks did it with RW. Its highly thought of in the league. Purdy vs Howell,. Purdy has the jump on Howell imho.
Not unless they plan to acquire Kyle Shanahan and spend the next eight years building a great roster
I beleve we're going after a DL also.
Maybe put paying Williams kind of is the investment there
Yeah, I'd say Fautanu and scoot him to LG - that seems to be where our biggest need is and the most logical fit for him as a player to give him the best chance in the NFL.
There are plenty of guards at his height, one just signed for $20m a year
Jackson powers I could see too.
330lbs so would have to play guard and John just said they get overdrafted
He a right tackel
Rob: You have had high praise for Chop Robinson. If he fell to 16. Would you consider taking him.
Yes
My thought on this for success is to trade down and pick up that 2nd and other. That void between the 1st and 3rd is just too great. They need some numbers between the sweet zone of the draft. They're too separated as it is right now, especially after the trade. I Hope to see a trade down on draft day. I don't have a huge beef with the QB trade. Even though the trade value difference amounts to a total of a bottom 3rd round worth of points (almost 119, Drafttek scale). Pretty expensive for a backup QB but I trust John to do what he can for the situation.
2 OL - in their first 3-4 picks, S, LB, TE, NT, RB
I want Braden Fiske!!!!
Seahawks will get one of the F boys or Mimms (or similar) to significantly improve our OL with an all-pro boy.
I have Sam Howell blinders on in that he seems like someone who could correct his flaws and become a legit NFL QB. I can see it the other way as well but with a side of legit hope. Am I alone in this?
Other question: Howell or Bo Nix?
yes oline is mandatory!!!!! but i think we'd be supprised we get a deffensive player
He's still not accurate. Not in college. Not in pros. And his yards per attempt weren't good.
He has a PFF grade similar to Zach Wilson. He is what he is. Washington didn’t even want to keep him as a cheap backup
I think we’ve dug ourselves a hole by trading away key draft picks. I now feel we have no option but to trade back from 16
Imo, they were never going to do anything but trade back from 16. They still have quite a few holes to fill and need to acquire another pick.
@@AbbeyRoadkill1 I actually agree… I think the writing has been on the wall since we traded away our 2nd to the Giants
@@AbbeyRoadkill1 I hope not. Seahawks need a blue chip player. 16 isn't worth a whole lot for trading down.
@@MegaTriumph1but we need to remember. Who a blue chip player on draft day and who is a blue chip player actually playing can be different. Davante adams, Chris jones as some examples. Kupp, Sherman, possibly nacua as well.
@@MegaTriumph1if there’s an actual blue chipper at 16, they will take him. There likely won’t be so they’ll trade down and get a pick in the 2nd.
I think they might grab Fashanu, if he drops. But I agree. Best plan is grab BPA in the trenches.
Rob I think that the Seahawks will trade down probably get a defense
I think the main reason they moved Kirkland to guard is that Fautanu was a better player.
It’s not the only reason though
If they trade back let's say 27th or something like that, and Graham Barton is not available. I would love Tyler Nubin
Bit early. I like Nubin but he ain’t R1
Abe Lucas is not a fit at guard, also that would be even tougher on his knee
Neither of these things are true SeattleZ12
Abe lucas and Quentin Nelson are essentially the same size.
Trade down, OL, DL, LB. In that order. Cheers
They signed George Fant for right tackle. I think they did this because of Lucas injuries last year. I don't think they are taking a tackle worth Cross, Lucas, Fant, and Forslythe on the team.
John made it clear they didn't sign Fant for right tackle. He said they signed him to be a utility lineman
What have the Vikings just done to help trade up for a QB, they've got themselves a second 1st round pick. It's not too early to start thinking ahead for next year, meaning any trade down for me has to include a 2025 1st round pick. This might mean trading out of round 1, but this is where having a plan matters.
It's a plan for sure. Would suck as a draft fan but at least there would be a plan.
And got a warm
Body to be our backup
Winning the Super Bowl is like all
The stars aligning at the perfect place and time, like for the Eagles in 2017.
They’re talking about it be degenerative. If that’s the case, they might not have a choice.
It’s not just ‘because of one injury’ is it. It’s far more serious than that
Mims doesn’t have a lot of experience but HOLY SHIT did he have the most impressive tape against the man-eater JT Tuimolao at Ohio State
If I was Seahawks GM, I would trade down twice into the second round. Wayyy to much talent in this draft. I think 2025 is the year they go for QB 1
Fashanu is overrated
They will absolutely trade down.
They may well do. But it's also plausible if a top player on their board lasts to 16 they just take him. No reason to rule anything out
Call me stubborn, call me crazy but I'd STILL draft Penix at 16 (I saw a projection today that has him currently going #31 to Las Vegas,,so he'll probably be available at 16).
We absolutely need to trade down. We're gonna need more than one G, we don't have a 2nd, and we've already compromised our later picks for Sam Howell.
This isn’t happening
Just like Caleb is a lock at #1,
They will trade down 100% I guarantee it
You can’t guarantee it though
They are a horrible team when it comes to finding qb's. There is a franchise QB going to be available to them and this team is too stupid to see it and know it.
