Loving the videos and articles on the blog. Taylor frustrated me because he has natural talent but maybe didn’t have it between the ears. I saw someone say either he refuses or can’t set the edge and defend the run. Pete would have kept him and stopped hall from emerging and getting reps. I like what they are doing. It looks and feels like smart football moves.
Good pass rusher but that's it, could not set an edge let alone a hard edge like MM wants. So happy they got a draft pick rather than nothing if they cut him, the edge room is very good and DT was surplus to requirements.
Now would love to see more strength and depth on the OL. Kinda disappointed Olu wasn’t the star ai thought he would be early. Thrilled we got Connor, but need more.
I knew Taylor was gone very early on when Mike McDonald and John mentioned versatility several times over the summer. Taylor has some skills, he might even be above average, but versatile is the last word you would ever use to describe him. He might be an above average speed rushers, but he really only has that one move there. He takes the worst angles in defense, and he cannot set an edge for the life of him. That is just not the type of player Mike is into, so it makes sense that we move off of him. I think though, it was really Hall's development that made it a likely possibility to happen now. I think it's a decent move for both teams, the Bears get a guy who can at least add some pass rush for small compensation, and we get rid of some cap space and get a little trade value out of it.
Bears fan here.. I think he'll fit well in Chicago. We have BIG, robust DTs like Billings and Dexter who stuff the run.. We need help on the EDGE getting after the QB. And I hear Taylor has a mean streak and will get after it! BEARDOWN CHICAGO BEARS 🐻
I didn't see much of a mean streak. He walks around like he's all that but you don't see it on the field. As noted in the video, he provides the occasional flash as a pass rusher. Apart from that -- he was a liability. And that limits how often you can put him on the field. Seattle gave him every opportunity to turn a corner and he hasn't been able to do it. The new staff in Seattle sussed him out right away. I hope he works out for you -- but I suspect he'll be a six sacks but 15 liability plays type still, thus why he only garnered a 6th rounder
@robstatonfootball Eberflus is a "players coach" and can squeeze the best out of his Defensive players. I'm not sure what or who are the leaders in that Seattle locker room, but Chicago's Defense is led by Montez Sweat, TJ Edwards and Jaylon Johnson.. It's a great group of guys and if Taylor is gonna have success, Chicago is EXACTLY the place for him to be.
@@edgarsoto3448 Pete Carroll was a players coach. Probably the best players coach you'll find. It made no difference. They had Bobby Wagner, Leonard Williams, Jarran Reed last year. I wouldn't try too hard to convince yourself that a player Seattle just gave away is going to amount to anything for you. I'm telling you what he is -- an occasional splash player who is otherwise a striking liability.
@robstatonfootball Heard he struggled when doubled.. Don't think Seattle line had anyone worth doubling. So Taylor should be in a lot of favorable situations.. 21.5 sacks in 3 yrs tells me a DOUBLE DIGIT sack season is definitely attainable.. Sometimes a change of scenery brings out the BEST in a player. And for a 6th rd pick, looks like Poles just made us better.
Free up a little bit of money. He was by far the most electric pass rusher the Seahawks had but Did have some flaws in the run game. But for the Bears to get them for a six round pick, I mean, that’s a win for them all day!
@@tjschotts I wouldn’t say he was by far the most electric. Mafe played well last season. As for the Bears, there’s a reason why the Seahawks basically gave him away
My opinion the same as you, a bust of a player, time to move on with everything that’s happening and at least they got a draft pick for him. Can see Seattle cap space grow and them doing something fruitful with it to further improve the team.
@robstatonfootball well it's a good thing the bears really only need him to rush the passer. We have the number 1 rush defense in the league and demarcus walker will start at end and then slide inside for pass rushing situations. That is where we will use him. He doesn't need to stop the run much at all.
Thanks Rob. Spot on. Mike Mac values flexibility and this guy is a one trick pony.
Excellent takes Rob
Good move dude was a complete liability in run defence
DT is just a 3rd long pass rusher. He can't hold the edge against the run.
It's a good move, shed that cap and get another pick.

Thanks for the insight on a player I did not really know
Interesting. We will have to wait and see how the trade works out.

Dee Eskridge you're next .... lol
What could we get for him? Maybe a seventh?

Trade frees up a little $ and gets a 6th rd pick, I’m happy with that- Taylor was nothing more than a liability.
Well said Rob!
Eskridge, Taylor… no more gadget guys please
Nice
If Mike McDonald doesn’t want him, then I don’t want him.
My reaction, yes yes yes. Same as M Jackson.
Length, sack, splash player, put the helmet in…. Rob doing his best Alan partridge 😂

I'm Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze are celebrating tonight (in an alternate universe where Taylor is actually, you know, good).

With 20K signing bonus, you know they intend to trade him in order to salvage some draft capitals.

They traded for a guy that was going to get cut. It’s more a throw at a dart board for the Bears than anything else.

9 lsacks for a 6th round pick, excellent situational DE for someone you will dump after training camp.

9.5 sacks is a tease ok then. Well the bears only need him to be a pass rusher.
You clearly haven’t watched him
And also not be a liability, which he was every play that he didn’t get a sack. Literally boom or bust every play.
The Bears traded for him because he’s a pass rusher.
