Insulating and Finishing the New Door | Shed to Shop | Ep 9
#shedtoshop, #workshop, #woodshop, #woodworking
Hey there,
In this new episode on converting this shed into a shop, I insulated and finished the new door. I added a door frame with weather stripping to seal the gaps. Then I added fiberglass insulation and a vapor barrier. Lastly, I decorated the door with wood strapping slats and reclaimed fence pickets.
Thanks for watching and I hope to catch you on the next episode.
Take care and stay safe,
JL

Trapezoid Christmas Tree Collar from Recycled Fence Pickets | How-To DIY Project
Переглядів 2586 місяців тому
Hello, In this video I made a Christmas Tree Collar using old fence pickets. It always feels good to reuse this old wood and keep it out of the landfill. This project required a lot of planning and several angels and bevels. I have a hard time with angles so it was quite a challenging project for me. Below is what I used as a script to narrate the video and may be helpful to you if you are look...
Building a New Door with a Fake Window for the Shop | DIY | Shed to Shop | Ep 8

#shedtoshop, #workshop, #woodshop Hello, In this episode I built a new door for the shop. It features a board and batten look and a fake window. I wanted the look of a window without the cons that come with having a real window (cost, insulation, lighting while filming, etc.) so I made a fake one. I hope you enjoy the video and consider subscribing to my channel. Thanks for watching and I hope ...

I chose to purchase individual cans instead of the DIY spray foam kits because I could order what I needed and save a ton of money. Nice & simple, I like it! Just one thing though. You assume that the cook top is going to be a flat cook top. What about the most common type, coil heating elements? How do you address them?

    • @JLWoodArtistries
      @JLWoodArtistries 3 місяці тому

      I would still make the noodle board the same way. If you don’t like how the coils raise it up off the stove, you could add trim around the bottom edge to raise it up high enough to cover the gap created by the coils. The noodle board is meant to be a decorative accent to the stove and add additional counter space so I don’t think the coils really matter. Does that make sense or did I misunderstand your question?

    Does it make sense to do this without removing the laminate floors that have already been put in place? I am guessing only problem would be is that if I ever run into a problem with the laminate floors, I would need to remove the skirt in order to remove the laminate.

    It didn't expand as expected because of the distance the head was away from the surfaces. 40 cm or 15 inches for ideal expansion according to brochure and what ever normal application speed is. So the lenght of the gun, should have been the "ideal" distance of the head to the surface, I rekon. Your speed looked un-rushed to me, for whatever that is worth. 13:00 I can't wait for 2043 when your patent expires! There is a bit of an art to planning and insulating properly, I paid someone $10K to insulate my shop, it was worth every penny. They airsealed all the cracks with caulk and installed a vapor barrier. Obviously my job was much bigger and had 12' ceilings but Free is Free plus you probably did a better job cutting the fiberglass than the pros.

      Wow, well that makes me feel a lot better about the time and effort I put into this phase. Trade secrets like the secret formula for Coke, can last forever but you have to keep it secret and can't make a youtube video of it. When I priced out materials during covid, just fiberglass insulation was ~5K. The $10K I paid included R21 batts in walls and R49 blown in the ceiling plus a bunch of intangibles fire blocking, air sealing etc... showed up with two big box trucks and were done in less than two days, it would have taken me 2 months! Obviously your job was smaller and easier to plan and manage for one guy. I am looking forward to see how your DIY spray foam goes.
