In this episode, I insulated the shop ceiling with spray foam. I chose to purchase individual cans instead of the DIY spray foam kits because I could order what I needed and save a ton of money. My biggest complaint with this particular insulation was that it didn't expand as much as I had hoped for. Overall, I'm happy with my decision.
Thanks so much for watching and I hope to catch you on the next episode.
Take care,
JL
Giving me confidence to do the same to my garage's ceiling. Thank you!
Go for it! It’ll be great and you’ll be glad you did.
I didnt realize those sprayed like that. Definitely good to know
Thank you. 😊 good information
Another excellent video!!
Thank you so much.
Hi great vid did you notice it being cooler the next day?
Thank you and yes. It made a huge difference that I started noticing right away.
What if you have a complete room in the attic and can’t access the top space? I have a finished room but no insulation
My advice would be to consult a licensed professional and refer to the building codes in your area. Unfortunately, that’s the best I can do for you. Best of luck to you.
@@JLWoodArtistries thank you
It didn't expand as expected because of the distance the head was away from the surfaces. 40 cm or 15 inches for ideal expansion according to brochure and what ever normal application speed is. So the lenght of the gun, should have been the "ideal" distance of the head to the surface, I rekon. Your speed looked un-rushed to me, for whatever that is worth. You look like you were right up on it. Cool information.
Good to know. That’s probably why it expanded better in certain areas but not all of the areas. I’ll keep that in mind for future spray foaming. Thank you for your comment. Take care.
@@JLWoodArtistriesNo Than you and the algorythem for leading me to this product.
@@JLWoodArtistries You said you were unhappy with the expansion... I wonder if a second coat would work?
You are correct. I did a second coat in a few areas and I’m pleased with the results. I probably should have been more careful maintaining a consistent distance of spraying away from the ceiling to help with the expansion but this was my first time and lessons were learned. The second coat helped fix my problem areas.
What's the point of insulating if your gonna leave that gable vent open.
I don’t have any other vents in the building. Leaving them open will allow fresh air inside the building to reduce excessive heat and moisture.
@@JLWoodArtistries This is true if the gable vents are on the outside of the insulated envelope, but where they are they are going to vent conditioned air to the outside, you will almost certainly have a moisture issue right at those vents where you will have moist warm air hit this the cold vent surface and condense.
@hyperion112 Interesting. What do you recommend I do to vent the building?
@@JLWoodArtistries I'm honestly not sure what would be best from where you are at right now. Are you in a very cold climate, or a warm climate?
@hyperion112 I’m in Colorado. We get as cold as about -5F and as warm as about 105F.
What was the gun you used?
The gun came with Akfix foam in the bundle that I bought. If you check out the Akfix store on Amazon you can also by the gun separately. It’s currently $30.
If you were able to apply (in a perfect world) that desired one inch depth throughout the under roof area, what R value would that provide?
The label on the can said the product has an R value of 5.66 per inch.
