    I learned this method from the legendary gardener Jerry Baker maybe 30 years ago.. Pre germinate in a bucket. Works great. I've tried to convince other people to do this but I'm met with skepticism and outright scoffing. So be it. I also do test pre germination of old flower seeds in packs. To see if they are viable before going to the trouble of planting them.

    Nice video, Sam. Thank you very much for sharing a lot of useful lawn tips. I presume that it's best to apply it on a rather cloudy day? Do you have to water it in after applying it to be most effective or do you leave it on the blades? Best regards from Belgium.

    • @SamsLawn
      @SamsLawn 6 днів тому

      Hey Mate, I would do it on a cloudy day preferably so that the iron doesn't dry up and "burn" the blades. If you are adding iron that is. But it´s not going to kill it jus stress it a bit more. So if you can on a cloudy day that would be the best. No need to water in anything, let it be absorbed through the blades, and what it can´t take up will go down into the roots and soil once it does rain.

    Why are you doing the creeping fescue, are you hoping it makes it better over the winter?

    • @SamsLawn
      @SamsLawn 7 днів тому

      I felt like a monostand was a bit risky in the end. Other species have better resistance to other things, so I felt like it would be best for the lawn to spread the risk so to say. Also yes, I am hoping it will cope with the winter here a bit better. But even though everyone says to me that the lawn is dying ONLY because of the rye, I am not convinced, I think there are more reasons than just that. So also a way to experiment and see if that´s true :)

    • @StefanKolev-oh5hz
      @StefanKolev-oh5hz 7 днів тому

      @@SamsLawn I see, the lawn is nit dying because if the ryegrass. I have ryegrass, fescue and kbg all mixed and I lose some of it every winter because of snow mold. Kbg seems to be the most resistant to it but I still lose some of it too. I have some bent grass that seems to be unaffected from the snow mold, I ve been trying to get rid of it with tenacity because it stands out. It loves to be cut low like under an inch but it also likes water and fertilizer, anyway your grass is looking great again.

      Hey Mate, It is important to get them down to the soil and get as good seed to soil contact as you can, if you have space or air in between the roots will take, but they will be very fragile since you need to wait longer for it to get further down into the soil, (if that makes sense?)

    Nice videos Sam. Watched all! Can you do a review of the mosquito-magnet please? 😀

      Hey Mate! Glad you found the video helpful! I am actually going to do some more product reviews, wasn´t planning on the mosquito magnet, but maybe I´ll do a review, need to branch out a bit from just lawn care :)

      @@SamsLawn Thank you for your reply. I live in Stockholm and mosquitos seem to love me very much, especially this summer! 😁 Are you happy with the mygg-magnet?

      @@kuroshmotamedian3521 Mosquitos love Iranians 😉 Very happy with it, I was sceptical when I got it, but it really does make a huge difference with the amount of mosquitos we have. But still when you sit outside at night you would need one of those Thermacells, the magnet does not take 100% of the mosquitos.

    Quality video Sam (as always) you told me about this method about a year ago, still need to try it out. Laws coming along rather nicely now. I think fescue is the way to go. You end up with a self repairing lawn. Rye was nice for the strips, but hey does it need feeding (rye that is) 👍 oh and congratulations on achieving that UA-cam milestone ❤

      Hey Steve, thanks a lot mate! Try it, it´s really easy, hand down the easiest way to repair small areas. Thanks for the support mate, never could get to 10K without the support from you all! 🙏

    När jag stödsår bara fläckar brukar jag först raka med en kultivator. Lägger sedan ut fröna som fått torkat lite efter att ha förgrott dessa mha vatten. Sedan vattnar jag lätt med resultatet att fröna dras ner i skårorna efter kultivatorn. Avslutar med ett väldigt tunt lager med toppdress.

    how many sq ft is your yard and how many bags of top soil? trying to figure out how many bags i need to do exactly what you just did on my 5-6 thousand sq ft yard and cant find any good info on how many bags i need.

    • @SamsLawn
      @SamsLawn 7 днів тому

      Hey Brandon, I have about 2000 sq ft and I use about 13 bags with the landzie, that´s a thin layer of topdress, if you want a thicker layer then obviously you will need more. Always buy more, you use more than you think, every time :D
