    That was a funny intro :) - My lawn is a complete mess, so I will have to live vicarously through you this year Sam! - My wife likes all stuff to be wild and frowns at me when I mention that "maybe we need some sort of barrier between flower beds and lawn?" - My ADHD likes clearly defined areas, and my wife like things to grow out of control (my interpretation). But maybe I can atleast get some overseeding done this coming week.
    Also, looking forward to seeing what mower you have gotten! Did you go all crazy and got one of those fancy 20.000 SEK reel mowers?

    • @SamsLawn
      @SamsLawn  Рік тому

      Hey Kristian, haha i know the feeling, although at some point my wife just gave up and let's me do pretty much what I want in the lawn, territory secured 💪😅 I also like more clearly defined areas! Overseeding is always nice, need to add younger and stronger grass plants, the older they get some of them will weaken and lose the weed fight at some point, so need seeds every year is good. Do it when she's not home haha.
      I can neither confirm or deny if I got a fancy mower or not 😄 but people asking me how much I paid for it cannot believe it, they think I am really nuts.

    Hi Sam. Happy new year! Good to see you back. I’ve started on my lawn here in Cumbria, UK. Spent 9 hours on it yesterday. Mowed, electric raked to remove thatch, applied iron for moss, aerated the entire 80 sq m lawn using same tool that you have, applied Envii Active Lawn to break down clay then applied peat-free compost. Finished after dark and was shattered. Next week am over-seeding. I have become a lawn bore I’m afraid 😊

      @SamsLawn  Рік тому

      @@yasirrasheed Hey mate, I would wait a bit, the grass is just about to get going, so the new grass seeds will take longer to germinate and grow since it still gets cold during nights in stockholm. I would wait a week or two more. Same with top dressing, there is no rush, wait for the lawn to come back to life properly, then you can overseed. Since I pull every weed I see at first sight I usally don't care when I overseed, Weeds will come no matter when actually, if it's not dandelions there will be something else, so do it when you have time in the schedule pretty much :)

    Northeastern USA bluegrass lawn here... Weird winter with hardly any snow, a lot of rain, and temperatures not all that low caused my lawn to come back with a LOT of fungus... All different kinds. The weird part is that anywhere that my dog peed and I poured water over during the winter came back dark dark green and grew to about 4 inches long in days before any of the other grass even started showing signs of life. It's weird because this happened in early March, which is long before the ground temperature was high enough...I also have an area where the grass all turned a weird bronze color, so not sure what is going on there.

      @SamsLawn  Рік тому

      Hey Riley, yeah the weather is pretty strange these days, you never now how the seasons are going to be. That is strange actually, I mean sure usually the nitrogen in the urine would make it green, but if it was in March, I would have thought it would have leeched out by now, maybe the cold weather prevented it from doing just that, not sure. At least it's green? :D

    • @SamsLawn
      @SamsLawn  Рік тому +1

      Hey Mate, I wish I could, but I don't think I have the knowledge to actually do those kinds of videos. Really bad at heating and cooling systems and how they work. But we use an exhaust air heat pump, found an explanation online that explains it better than I would :D
      "The heat pump's fan sucks ventilation air out of all the wet spaces in your house, a weak negative pressure is formed which means that air from other rooms also finds its way to the wet spaces. Fresh outside air is drawn in through the vents on the outer walls and in this way all rooms in the house are ventilated"
      That's exactly how it works in our house.

    Hey Sam, you really weren't exaggerating when you said you still have snow! We had 2 great days this weekend (UK - Then normal service resumed - Rain).
    I've bitten the bullet and ordered a landzie lute. I've got some top soil & play sand (best I could find locally), just waiting for the prolonged dry weather to get the leveling work done (I think i'll go with 70% top soil & 30% sand given my existing base). Then i'm going to look at picking up a Gardena cylinder mower like yours or maybe a webb WEH18 (anyone own one and have any feedback?). I'm 6'2" and have concerns about the gardena (as you did). I put spring fertiliser down about 1 month ago (I think a few weeks to early in hindsight).

      @SamsLawn  Рік тому

      Hey Chris, I heard you've had a lot of rain lately in the UK, I think I still would prefer the rain over snow :)
      I love the lawn lute, think it's such a great tool to have, so well worth it if you ask me! I like the mix of sand and top soil, too many people go all in on the sand not knowing the consequences and what they are in for. I never use purely sand either, not really suitable for a home lawn in my opinion.
      Hope you have a strong back Chris, I'm only 5'11 and the Gardena was killing my back, beyond me that the don't add an adjustable handle to that thing. Hopefully it works for you, otherwise it's pretty easy to extend it yourself.

    Hi there, I love your videos, so humorous and helpful too. Spring is here (Greece) but not very warm yet, 9-12c the lawn is waking up, just a couple of days snow in January, mostly a dry winter. I need to add fertilizer, and do some weeding when it gets a little warmer. There are two round spots where my cat pees: in the center of them, the lawn is dead, and all around them, it is so green and vivid. Probably too much nitrogen in the center and just the right amount all around them, I suppose... What can I do about that?

      Hey Lucy! Thanks so much, I hope you get warmer weather in Greece soon, I'll be coming over in a month for vacation :)
      What usually works best is too drench the area where they peed in water, to dilute the nitrogen, as you say, it is too much in the middle so it burns everything. But with cats I guess it's hard to know exactly where they do their business. Other than that or maybe make an area with sand where they so they can use that as their toilet. It's harder with cats, dogs are easier to train where to go or not to go. How did it go with the scarifying in September by the way? Did you get around to it?

      Hey Mate, man I am jealous, I wish we had those temps, so eager to get started. I heard you had a lot of rain though? Any big plans for the lawn this year?

      We had a long dry spell then a lot of rain,
      I am killing the barenbrug extreme (dwarf rye) off & putting down some proper rye (RPR) this year,
      It looked nice but it’s not for me , IMO dwarf grass has dwarf roots 😆.
