Hello Sam! I think the reason the mower cant follow the side of the house could be because the mower and the base station cant "see" the same GPS satelites. The base station does all the fancy calculations for each satelite it can see and then transmits that to the mower. If the mower and the base station cant see the same satelites, that could be a reason for the inaccuracy. You can always try to move your base station to the corner of the house next to your neighbour and see if it helps? For GPS accuracy in Sweden you generally want your mower and base station to have free sight to the sky in the south direction (where it can see the most GPS satelites). So if the edge it struggles with is on the north side of your house, it will be hard to solve, because your house naturally blocks most of the satellites. In fact, the mower could even be reading the GPS signal bouncing of your neighbours house which is consistent with it moving into your housewall! Some landsurveyors are also lawn nuts! :)
Hey Kristian, thanks for the input, never really considered that since the app said the position of the base station was fine, but it seems like this could be the issue, sounds reasonable. I think I´ll try to move it this season and see if it works better, appreciate the feedback! Btw, this counts as a mower video right???? 😅😉
That's pretty much what I was going to say. If it cuts so great everywhere else and that one area isn't so great, it has to be reception and what kind of line of sight the device has with satellites and the RTK unit. I'm assuming if the satellites are to the south, the RTK unit would be best utilized on the north side of the building to help cover locations with fewer satellites connections. This is one reason geofencing for dog collars isn't such a great idea.
Hey Mate, for sure, I have those days too. I liked it especially after fertilization, fertilizer on rye grass = crazy growth, can´t keep up with the mowing myself, enter Luba :)
@@SamsLawn Zoysia is a great cure for that. I can throw down fertilizer and not mow for 2-3 weeks and my grass never gets over 5 to 6 inches tops. It grows kind of slow, and doesn't have a very tall max height. The stolons and rhizomes spread and spread, and the blade growth with the horizontal roots is just so thick it blocks out most weeds. It's not quite a dark green as Rye, but it's worth it. My two favorite compliments were some 9 year old twins playing in the front yard with my daughter when she was 10 and they just commented how much they loved playing in my yard because it was so soft to fall on and roll on, and this very pretty lady that used to walk her dogs past my house was walking along looking at her phone one day and all the sudden she turned and quickly snapped a photo of my lawn. She didn't realize I work from home full time and my lawn is my full time view from my office...which is why I planted it to start with. Another great thing about Zoysia (and likely other warm season grasses) is there's less moisture in the blades of grass so it doesn't stick to the mower deck. Not at all.
I totally feel your pain with buried cables. I purchased the Luba 2, who we call "Zip". He's never failed us yet. I'm sure the Luba 1 will do great for you.
Hey mate, hopefully I don't have to deal with the cables anymore 😅 I really like the Luba, it works better than I anticipated, would love to try the Luba 2!
The issues losing signal is meant to be fixed with the 2nd generation LUBA 2. But also you will get better signal fixing the RTK to the roof of your house.
Hey Jim, thanks, glad you found the video helpful. I am actually very impressed with the Luba and on the Swedish lawn forums there are several threads where people are also very happy with it, it seems to be up there along side Husqvarna as the top model when it comes to robomowers without wires. From what I hear the Luba 2 is really good! (haven´t tried it myself)
Hi Sam, Any reason to buy the Luba 2 instead of Luba 1? I think I can buy a used one from second hand website for about a EUR 1100. Worth it instead of brandnew one for more than double? I have two lawn areas which are not connected. Therefore it is the first time I consider buying such a mawer. Thanks for you comment in advance. Mathias
Hey Mathias, I have not tried the Luba 2 so I can´t really say if it´s worth the upgrade. But the Luba 1 was awesome in my opinion. From what I understand from Mammotion themselves, the Luba 2 has a camera on it so it´s less vulnerable to signal losses, it can still navigate even if it loses connection to the RTK station. So I would say, if you have a pretty clear area without many trees and things in the way of the RTK station then the Luba 1 will work just fine. I still think it will work fine even with a few obstacles but it might give you some head ache from time to time due to signal loss. Especially if you get a good price like that, then paying more than twice that for a Luba 2 might be a bit overkill. Let me know what you decide mate and how it works out. Good luck!
Hey dude! Thanks, appreciate it 🙏 I know right?! I was 100% sure it would fail at some point 😅 But 4 months of mowing and it made it every single time 🥳 I am a bit worried, though, if the neighbors expect me to keep mowing their lawn this year too 😂🤦🏽♂️
Loosing GPS signal under trees or close to the house or between houses is a problem for all GPS/RTK robots. The solution is to fall back to gyroscope, vision, and stored map upon loss of GPS. Eventually, once vision and gyroscope are perfected, there will be no need for GPS or RTK or perhaps it will only be needed as periodic error correction. The only point that needs to be known is the recharge location. Everything else is just a coordinate from that point. I think that this transition will be accomplished over the next 5 years. It is important to note that Lidar has too many limitations. Vision processing is the future.
Hey Robert, thanks mate! It´s just as quiet as my last one, I haven´t seen any robo mowers in general that make a lot of noise, I had it scheduled to run at night, well, late evening more like it. But you can run it whenever you want, no one will hear or notice it.
