VIGO (GALICIA)
🇬🇧 In the Galician province of Pontevedra, situated on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, lies the city that lends its name to the southernmost estuary of the Rías Baixas: Vigo.
Its fishing origin has left an historic quarter with a strong maritime flavour, which contrasts with the modern facilities of its marinas. The port of Vigo, one of the finest natural ports in the world, was the origin of this city fringed by mountains. Its maritime qualities, already exploited in Roman times, have given rise to the present-day marinas and the transatlantic harbour, as well as to the fishing and canning industries. All of this has contributed to the urban development of Vigo, which includes the traditional port area and boasts major historic buildings and wide tree-lined avenues.
The historic quarter, the so-called Cidade Vella, is articulated around the old maritime quarter of O Berbés, near the port. Situated in this quarter, which has Tourist-Historical Interest status, are the arcades around the Plaza de la Constitución, fishing streets and emblazoned houses. One of the main features of this network of tiny streets, in which most façades have glass-encased miradors, is the Collegiate Church of Santa María, the Procathedral of Vigo-Tui. Neoclassical in style, this edifice is constructed on the remains of a Gothic church burned down by the pirate Francis Drake. Also worthy of visit in this area is the do Pedra market, a fascinating place for buying and sampling Galician oysters.

Beautiful walking tour Really enjoyed New Friend here Stay connected
Thank you very much for your visit and comment! I am glad that you enjoyed this tour. Have a nice day my friend 😊
It's so beautiful! I think I'll visit this place at the end of next year! I wonder what the hotel prices are like in October.
October is low season there so hotel prices are probably lower. Here in Spain, in addition to hotels, we have a state-run accommodation system called Paradores, which are high-quality hotels located in historic buildings and offer a very good quality-price ratio. I recommend that you also consider this option, because the Parador located in Ibiza is really good. Thank you for your visit!
It has a different glamour from Christmas in Tokyo, fantastic and very beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
It's my pleasure to share it. Thank you very much!. I'm very glad that you enjoyed this tour and liked the Christmas lights. Greetings, my friend!

Hola and Feliz Navidad. 🎅 It was a pleasant surprise to see a Walking Spain video today, and especially with the Christmas theme. 🙂 I watched it while relaxing after my Christmas dinner. Vigo seems like a beautiful town at Christmas! I noticed you used Portuguese translations in the titles, and when I looked up Vigo on a map, sure enough, it's right near the Portugal border and the Atlantic. All the lights were spectacular! The carousel was beautiful, and I don't think I've ever seen one with two levels. I think I saw Frosty the Snowman ⛄ at 17:20 and 24:00. 😀 The palm trees on Rua Colon were so elegant looking. The lights from inside the giant tree and ornament were amazing. The ferris wheel was absolutely huge! I am guessing it's a ferris wheel that you can ride? (not me, it's way too high!) 😆 Well, hope you had an enjoyable Christmas. 🎄 Take care.
Hola! Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you too! I hope you had a good Christmas too! Thank you for taking some of your time during these holidays to watch this video, so I'm glad you enjoyed it. You're right, it's not very usual for me to upload videos during the week but I couldn't pass up this special occasion, in fact it's the first one I've filmed at night and you can't imagine how complicated the editing has been because of that. It's clear that the Gopro is not made for this type of night tour. Of course, I've also filmed a tour of the city like the ones I usually film and I'll upload it soon (I still have my previous tour of the Morella castle pending) so you can see what Vigo is like. Actually, that translation is not Portuguese but Galician, which is a language spoken in that region along with Spanish and as you say, being so close to Portugal, it's similar to its language (many words are the same). I'm glad you liked the Christmas lights. Vigo is popular here for its Christmas decorations and both the giant tree and the Ferris wheel are the most popular attractions at this time of year. I didn't dare to go on the Ferris wheel due the weather (This region is also very popular for its many rainy days 😄) although I'm sure the view from there was spectacular. As I said at the beginning, I hope you're having a good time these holidays. See you on future tours (I don't even know which one will be next 😄) Take care!!
Fantastic Christmas decor. Beautiful lights. The view of VIGO from below is spectacular. Thanks for sharing, my friend. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays 🥰💖💖

こんにちは、友よ!このビデオを気に入っていただけて嬉しいです。コメントありがとうございます。良い一日を!
Hola! I watched the video on Sunday night and it was fantastic. I loved how you can see the clouds and mist in the valley below, and then I see that it's at an elevation of about 3000 ft. Beautiful scenery looking out across to the mountains, it really does feel like it's right out of a fairytale. I also noticed the autumn foliage in the trees. Ah, those beautiful golden leaves, sort of reminds me of New England in the fall. 😆 Also, the old stonework that you see throughout the video is amazing. And the stepped streets and arcades - love it. This area seems very well-kept and upscale? At 16:15, very nice ayuntamiento. Very interesting statues in there, but I liked the statues later on in the tour much better. 😉 The walk through that garden at 24:00 was very nice, very peaceful place, and you made some new friends (meow). 😅 Very nice Convent of San Francisco with the three arches at 26:50. Now, the next part of this tour was absolutely amazing - Archpriest's Church of Santa María la Mayor. Love the Gothic style, and the unbelievable number of statues here. Even the innermost arch is lined with small statues end-to-end. I stopped the video just to look at all the details and take it all in. And at 32:08, the church bell rings, right on cue! Since it was very quiet there, I didn't even expect the church to be open, but at 32:17, we're inside! 😲 OMG, the inside of this church is breathtaking to behold! I stopped the video at 32:53 to count the small statues up above, and I counted 16. The shot at 32:44 looking toward the altar from the back was beautiful. And the altar! OMG 😲. I don't want to sound too 'over-the-top' but that altar is just an amazing work of art. The gold, the paintings - I had to stop the video again just to take it all in and study it all, including the ceiling. I really enjoyed the side chapels - I think the first one at 34:52 was the Sacred Heart perhaps, at least that's what the statue looked like. At 36:06, the stairway leading up to the - I'm not sure what that area above would be called - but the stairway was a work of art. At 37:13 was another amazing side chapel with golden frames on the artwork and on the ceiling. Wow, so much gold here! At 39:26, that looks like - I'm not sure who is laid to rest there? Well, that was just a fantastic tour inside that church. At 45:15, I see you made another friend - Hello Kitty! 😂 At 51:27 from the tower, what a spectacular view! The mountains, the stepped hills - like a painting. Enjoyed the video very much. Take care.
Hola de nuevo! I hope everything is going well there! I'm very glad that you liked this medieval town, I've been wanting to visit it for a long time. It's a town that had always caught my attention and it really met my expectations. Before my trip, I had seen images of the town completely surrounded by fog, it must be something that happens frequently, and they seemed like very spectacular images, so when I left the hotel in the morning and saw that the fog covered the town I felt lucky and the first thing I did was quickly go to that place to see the spectacle. My first intention that day was to visit the castle and film a tour there (I think I've already revealed what my next tour will be 😄) and then, when there was more atmosphere in the streets, film a tour of the whole town, but when I saw the fog I didn't hesitate to change my plans and film this tour first. I agree with you, it's a beautiful town hall, it's a 14th century building that housed the judicial offices and there was also the medieval prison. Those sculptures inside... they're not really sculptures! They're figures that are used in a very popular festival in Spain that dates back to the Middle Ages called Gigantes y Cabezudos (Giants and BigHeads). These figures go around the streets dancing and waving their arms while a man controls them from the inside, whereas Bigheads (people dressed up with huge heads) are dedicated to scaring people with sticks (mainly children who come up to bother them). It's a tradition that I really enjoyed when I was a kid, trying to escape from the big heads that wanted to hit you with the sticks 😆 Although I think that the big heads can be a bit sinister for some children, something like clowns. I'm sure that if you had this tradition in the US, the bigheads would have starred in some horror movie 😆 (I admit that we have some rather strange traditions in Spain 😆) I think that I interrupted the cats in that little garden's rest 😄 As I told you before, due to my decision to film this tour first, the streets of the town were very quiet at that time of the morning and there were more cats than people. In Spain we have an expression to say that in a certain place there are few people, we say: "Hay 4 gatos" (there are 4 cats there) (for example, if we want to say that a restaurant has hardly any people at the tables we say: "There were 4 cats in the restaurant"). So I can say that in the streets of Morella at that moment there were really (more than) 4 cats 😝 That convent was being renovated now to become a Parador. I think I've already mentioned this to you a while ago, Paradores are state-run hotels that are usually located in historic buildings. I think it's a good idea as it gives you the opportunity to stay in a historic building and they're not too expensive. Also, even if you're not a hotel guest, you can go inside to visit it. In my opinion, this convent was a great choice for building a Parador. I knew you'd like the inside of the church 😉 To be honest, your suspicion is correct, at the time I filmed the tour, the church was closed, I filmed the inside of the church the day before in the afternoon. It's the magic of video editing 😄 For me it was a great surprise to discover the inside of the church, I didn't imagine that a town as small as Morella had a church with such a sumptuous interior. It's obvious that Morella was an important place in the past. That altar is one of the most magnificent I've ever seen. It is a style called churrigueresque, which is characterized by being very ornate in decoration and it is clear that this altar meets that characteristic 😄 I could have spent the whole day observing every detail. The stairs you mention lead to the choir. I agree with you, it is an authentic work of art. The reliefs that appear on it represent the genealogy of Jesus. I'm sorry, I can't tell you who that tomb next to the altar belongs to, there was no information and I haven't found anything on the internet either. I'm glad you enjoyed the interior tour of the church. To conclude, I must say that it was a very profitable tour, not only did I enjoy a beautiful medieval town but I also made a few feline friends 😆 Thank you very much as always for your visit. Nos vemos. Take care too
The historical structures are amazing.

The windmill must work. Modify half of them with modern blades and machines to mill wheat or grain...........
As far as I know, one of the mills still has machinery from the 16th century and is used on special occasions. The rest have other uses. Thank you very much for your visit and your comment. Best regards!

Thank you very much for your comment, my friend! You are right, it looks very beautiful after the storm, although it is also too quiet. Due to the heavy rains there were hardly any people and the restaurants were closed. Best regards
