This is disappointing. I want to see them put a movie for a paying audience and have nobody show up. No hiding failure behind a streaming service.
Agreed. I want them to dump $300 million to make and $200 million to market all for the movie to perform slightly better than The Marvels at the box office.

Its so sad to me that the state of Star Wars is so bad that the announcement of the new Rey movie and the possible cancellation of the same movie just made me shrug both times. I'm not even looking forward to the new big screen Mandalorian movie, and that one MAY not be too bad.
I predicted this when KK announced it. There is zero chance this trilogy will happen as a theatrical release.

I feel bad for Daisy Ridley. It isn't her fault that she was cast as one of the most poorly written characters in the Universe. She actually seems like a decent person in real life.
Why? She got the part because she is part of the English elitist upper class and got the job because of her parents connections to the BBC. She can't act, isn't particularly attractive was lucky to get the role.
Dont feel too bad. She should have enough money to not work the rest of her life.
Yeah, not really her fault, aside from her questionable acting ability. But I think it’s telling that she cried (happily?) when she found out J.J. was coming back. We know how THAT film turned out, but she probably hated what Rian Johnson was doing, too.
Idk if I’ll say I feel bad for her. Rather I won’t dislike her just because she played a terrible character in a trilogy that obliterated the lore. I can separate the person from the art, and unlike a lot of other recent Star Wars actors, she actually is very respectful of the fans whether they love Rey or dislike the character.
It’s unfortunate that her career really hasn’t blossomed from being in a big project like Star Wars, but that’s kind of the Star Wars curse. Very few actors have a thriving career because unfortunately they get for tied to that one roll. Doesn’t mean they’ll be broke tho. They get well paid for the role and whenever their likeness is used in other projects (unless their agent really messed up their contracts).
Rey deserves a lot of hate, but Daisy Ridley doesn’t
Maybe having only 2 facial expressions, mouth open and mouth closed, didn't help her acting career.
When Lucasfilm (basically KK) announced the Rey movie I threw in the towel over Star Wars. It meant either it was a big FU to a certain section of the fandom, or they really 100% haven’t a clue about what people love or hate about SW. Will it happen? So many people said The Acolyte will never see the light of day, and it did.
If your going to get the creator of Peaky Blinders to write a Star Wars film you don't get them to write a Rey Movie
You get the writer for maybe the most successful male oriented series in the past 10 years and tell them to pen the script for a misandrous female empowerment franchise. Insanity.

Surely Disney and Lucasfilm have to know that the audience for this movie to be profitable simply isn't there anymore. They're never making a new Star Wars movie for less than $250 million and the usual ridiculous marketing budgets to go along with that. It needs to be half that to make any kind worthwhile profit and that's not going to happen.
I remember Daisy Ridley saying in April that Knight's script was due in May. Not a peep about it since then.

I feel nothing for these people involved in their own plight made of their own creation. The Actors, Directors, Writers, Producers. They all could have passed on the projects, but decided not to and jeopardize their careers. Makes no sense. Daisey Ridley should have and could have dropped the role after Force Awakens but kept it. J.J Abrahms needed to con more dough for Bad Robot, the writers were writing scenes and characters in a developing story. Then we get to the producer K.K who should have and could have passed on the project, instead took the con and career down the bowl.

Agreed but she's one of the blandest actors I've ever seen and I've seen Jai Courtney, Sam Worthington, Orlando Bloom, Rob Pattinson, Hayden Christensen and Joseph Fiennes.
With Chris on this. I've been thinking the same thing for over a year. So obvious the Rey movie was dumped on the backburner and just look at Daisy Ridley's body language of late, STILL no script. I think a lot of eyes are on the Mando and Grogu movie. That arc is OVER, the film is going to bomb and no way will they go ahead with the Rey movie when that happens.

Disney publicly forbid her to announce new projects, then she announced the Rey movie project. About since then she is banned from the stiudio lot. So what do you expect?
Steven Knight's schedule is BOOKED. Apparently, he's opening the studio in LA to begin production of the long delayed second season of Tom Hardy's "Taboo" series on FX. Taboo is an excellent period piece set in London during early 1800s. The first season ended with lead character James Delaney setting sail for America. Iy currently boasts an IMDB score of 8.3. Tom Hardy's father Chips is also a credited creator for the series.
Knight is also working on the final season of Peaky Blinders, as well as season 2 of SAS: Rogue Heroes. Knight will be the third high profile writer to abandon the Rey movie, which was never going to happen.
It's the smart choice if they scrapped it! Movie would've tanked at the box office 100%
Daisy Ridley should've turned down the off the play Rey again. I know she's trying to find work and I saw her in that Woman At Sea movie. Kathleen Kennedy is not a studiohead and this Rey movie needs to he scrapped quickly
I believe this is Big Disney preparing for a change in Leadership at Lucasfilm. I think KK possibly got bigfooted and might not be allowed to do anything past the 'Rise of Skywalker' timeline to help sell it to her replacement and fans 'a new chapter' and 'era' for Disney Star Wars.
ROS had the lasting effect of flattening everything and not leaving much as far as building blocks for continuing the story or a next series. The next set of Post ROS Disney Star Wars movies, TV shows, and books/comics are going to have to have a bit of a time jump and world building/rebuilding, almost like staring over from scratch.

The original trilogy's actors could gather and talk about the launch of their careers. The new trilogy's actors will gather to talk about how they got used as props and exploited.
Not a huge surprise. When KK announced another trilogy and based on Rey 15 years later, I thought really? Are you kidding me? Of all things: Rey? I really liked Daisy Ridley in TFA. I thought we were off to a good start. And then, TLJ happened 😅 I really love TFA and Rogue One though.

They could have hired J.K. Rowling to write it and it would be great, but J.K. Rowling doesn't think you can become a woman by stepping into a phonebooth and taking your glasses off, so they'd never hire her.
Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy have become the modern day equivalent of Cannon Films from the 1980's. They're announcing tons of new ideas and projects and selling them to the audience to see which ones garner interest before they even attempt to make them.

It's going to all boil down to the money, and nobody has money to burn on vanity projects anymore. If it's not going to make the studio money, they'll just memory hole it into development hell till everybody forgets about it. I hope these projects all fall into development hell, Star Trek ones included as well.
If disney wanted to revitalize the brand, they should rerelease the OT in theaters. Imagine how epic would it be to see A New Hope on the big screen. All Disney would have to pay for is marketing, which is basically what they do now.

After watching the Acolyte, I thought it was boring and I will never watch it again. It wasn’t as bad as everybody said it was.
Until there's evidence of them actually filming a new movie, it's time to stop believing anything they announce about new movies. How many times is Disney gonna allow these projects to fall apart before they give Kennedy the boot?
There might come a day when a Rey movie (or an Episode X) could work, but not for at least another 10 years. And before that, the sequel era would need its own "The Clone Wars" equivalent to somehow redeem it.
Pretty sure KK had no authority to green light and announce this and was trying to PR it into existence.
Rey, the most inspiring character ever written for screen. We're all desperate to see her continuing adventures...

In light of the recent developments… I think director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is no longer tenable… her activism is (hopefully) no longer part of Disney’s strategy moving forward.
They can't scrap this though, it would be an admission that Rey and the Sequel Trilogy is a failure.

Kennedy managed to kill my fan boy fanaticism for all things Star Wars. Now, the only project I care to see is Andor, season 2.
I said this on my own channel,I can’t see this movie happening given the failure of The Acolyte and ( unfortunately) Daisy Ridley’s health issues ( I hope she still gets paid ).

It will take a few more years to finish it but it seems that Disney has succeeded in destroying a galaxy far, far away.
We just need to watch the old movies and consider ourselves lucky that they existed.

Rey could have been a good character. They really ruined her with episode 8. It was a mistake to make a film that picked up immediately after 7. It was a mistake to kill Snoke (that decision leads to return of Palpatine, ruination of Vader arc). It was a mistake to not have a plan.
Everything is being shipped to Europe. No one is building anything in L.A.
I hope it’s scrapped. It’s a horrible idea.

I'd be down for a Rey movie in which she's an old maid living alone, has distanced herself from her friends and the Force and is filled with self pity and regrets. Anything that the male heroes can do, she can do, right?

I’d rather they make the Rey movie and actually move the Star Wars story forward instead of the safe af Mando movie that’s just going to be some glorified streaming service movie. Star Wars is about grand galaxy spanning stories that concern good vs evil. Mando and grogu seems like some cheap buddy cop adventure where one of the cops is not even a cop and is just a toddler. How is that worth going to the movies to see? At least the Rey movie would revolve around the Jedi and bring back the Jedi order, which involves introducing a whole new set of characters. Rey wouldn’t even be the focus going forward.
She will be better off in the long run. I’m sure the money was ridiculous however.

Rey was created to take Luke Skywalker's place in an unearned, feminist appropriation that backfired. If the Rey movie is truly canceled, then someone at Disney/Lucasfilm is finally reading the room, and realizing there is no audience for Disney's Star Wars anymore.

Daisy also announced bad health issues which is very convenient ( putting my conspiracy theory hat on ) so i do think that it's not gonna happen. The sequels had their shoot and Last Jedi started the destruction of the franchise. There is no coming back from that. Even so... if they make a movie about her she might be old as dirt and it would just be a reversed star wars and probably a visual fest with no story.
LFL needs to go back and exploit the non cannon darth stories or stick to and closely around the OT for things to work out. The safe bet would be a post ROTJ movie with Luke dealing with the ramifications of the fall of the empire. Lots of good fiction was written in book and comic form... easily exploitable and safe territory.
I think a Rey movie would be successful if they race swap her. The only reason she wasn’t a popular character was just because she wasn’t diverse enough.

I like Daisy Ridley and these garbage movies are abusing the talents of the few good actors left. If there would have been a true Star Wars masterpiece franchise to carry on the legacy, Daisy Ridley could have been a great addition as a side character.
I’d be pumped for a Rey trilogy.

I've never even watched any of the sequels. Are they in The Mandalorian timeline? No. That is the correct timeline. That timeline came immediately after The Return of the Jedi, which is the last Star Wars film I watched. The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Skeleton Crew are in that timeline. We don't want a different timeline, which The Acolyte should have proven.
Besides, everyone hated the sequels. Why put makeup on a pig? I'm not calling Rey a pig. I'm just saying, accept the loss and move on. I for one feel really good not having seen the sequels. To me they don't exist. Luke, Han, and Lea are still alive, and likely will die heroically some day. And their entire bloodline wasn't wiped out by the evil Palpatine bloodline. How could they possibly try to make that sound okay? (It does make me think of Jews for some reason though. 😏)
