The fact they steal so much dialogue from Peter Jackson's franchise is pathetic, sad and cheap. Amazon Prime really tries to leach of the succes of others in order to make up for their own failures.

Jackson is guilty of the very same thing you’re accusing Amazon of. Peter Jackson’s films were not original. Watch the 1970s lotr animated movie. Jackson ripped it off nearly frame for frame. He took dialogue too.
The dialogue that repeats in the animated film, Jackson’s films, and Amazon’s series repeats because it’s in the source material. Many lines were lifted right from the book and appendices. The show has many problems, but this really isn’t one of them.

I don't understand how claiming there were no non-white Elves, Dwarves, or Hobbits in Tolkien's Middle-earth is anymore of a supposed ''racist'' statement than also saying there were no white people in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, nor was Zuko or the rest of the Fire Nation Indian. Tolkien's Middle-earth is primarly set in a heavily inspired European setting. Most of the characters that inhabit his world are a reflection of that. The only people he described directly of being of non-white background were the Haradrim from the far south, which he said in a letter he based their homeland off Africa, or the people of Rhûn in the east which he stated were of some sort of asian background like in China or Japan.

First of all elves are supposed to be white , the etymological definition of elf is of Germanic origin, and means ‘white’ being. So, Don Lemonless the elf of color is an impossibility, and if Amazon tries to say that he visited the two trees it would be completely contradicting. Because it would turn him white and he would radiate with the divine glow. So, that’s two reasons why elves cannot be black.
Also , since Amazon took it upon themselves to explain where mithril came from, and it comes from from the two trees, and since it emits the divine light explaining why it kind of glows, also explains why dwarfs of color is also an impossibility.
So yeah, I’m making fun of Amazon and Don Lemonless. His character is an absolute joke

Yeahhhh. I never did care all that much for Star Wars. Sure the lightsaber battles can be cool and Ikm a sucker for set piece space battle but it was at the end of the day a pretty meh story.
LOTR however. They done did my baby dirty. Friggin sucks but if anything I’m surprised it took them so long to “the message” up LOTR given it’s cultural legacy and impact.

We know how Tolkein feels about his work being destroyed. He made it very clear. No need to speculate on this. His grandson consciously made a choice to betray his grandpa's work.

@@mrtrololol100 The Hobbit had some scenes that were almost as goofy and canon breaking the rings of power, but overall, it was much better than the Amazon show. I too overall enjoyed it, and have found myself watching it several times since it’s been out. It hasn’t even crossed my mind to repeat any of the Amazon rings of power show. They are so horrible and breaking, I watch it only once, simply because I’m a huge Tolkien fan and I’m fiending for anything Tolkien!

That line of thinking makes no sense to me, even the tourists liked actual LOtR for a reason, that being that it was very good, at some point even those who decry that lore doesn't matter will come to find that this particular product won't be as pleasing to them and they won't quite understand why. We know why because we can identify that it has as much in common with Tolkien as an apple has to the concept of laser interferometry. They just won't be able to put their finger on why this IP doesn't resonate as well with them as the other. Then they will just fade away, kind of like ratings and viewership numbers dropping off after the first couple episodes and seasons of a bad show!!

Flying anywhere near Mordor was a death sentence, the great eye sees all. And the Ring Wraiths would have made quick work of anyone dumb enough to try. Sauron could only be defeated by someone he thought so small that they were of no concern of his. He never thought in his wildest dreams that anyone would try to destroy the one ring. Tolkien himself has already covered this supposed “plot hole” in many interviews. It’s not a plot hole, anyone who thinks this way has no idea what they are talking about. Let’s fly the one ring directly to Satans right hand man and doom everyone.
Generally refraining from comment writing but I have to tell you that I found your channel during Season 1 of Rings of Power when I was truly disgusted by how they handled Tolkien's masterpiece. It felt like everything that made the original work so special was being distorted beyond recognition, and your videos gave my frustration and anger a voice. You perfectly captured what so many of us were feeling, and it's refreshing to see people speak up for Tolkien's legacy. Keep up the great work, , and continue to hold these adaptations accountable!

Council of the Rings - best episode reviews by an actual lore master who ends each video by ranking the story, dialogue, "lore" compared to what Tolkien actually wrote, etc.
This channel is a Tolkien lover's dream - both content-wise, and aesthetics!

1. The Little Platoon, but I don't think he's done any season 2 work yet. His Season 1 work is highly recommended. He also has a secondary channel called "the lost chord". Highly recommend the video on diversity in middle earth, which was approximately 15 minutes out of a much longer video on his main channel.

2. Random Film Talk - just discovered this channel a few weeks ago and I'm loving it! He describes each scene and makes notes on what we have learned about each character, then reviews all the notes. It's both analytical and hilarious as the weak writing is exposed beyond a shadow of a doubt!
3. Disparu - His episode reviews are approximately one hour long each and he's very funny! He also does this for Star Wars, Marvel, any popular IP that is current.
His playlists are excellent for bingeing when feeling unwell.

@JbombTheGreat I don't agree. He's recommending a number of channels that review Rings of Power and doesn't play favorites. I'm familiar with most of them and his description of them is accurate. And I'm glad to see any mention of Let's Review Crap Writing, a channel that absolutely deserves a higher number of subscriptions.
@@dronesclubhighjinks I would recommend The One Ring. Ive followed them since season 1 and Jonathan and Michael do excellent breakdowns of each episode. They know Tolkien lore extensively and are able to highlight the absurdity while educating the viewer about Tolkiens intentions and writings.

Not defending this show at all, but i remember reading part of them getting the IP was they had to create their own new story, they couldn't cover anything that was from the hobbit, the lotr trilogy, or the simillarion. That at least explains some of the problems with the general timeline issues the show seems to have. It really should have never been made.

You remember wrong, then. They were only granted the rights to things in the Appendices of _The Lord of the Rings._ And they haven't come close to creating their own story; they've simply taken the bones of the "stories" included in the Appendices, smashed them to powder, then tried to glue them back into a skeleton.

False. Anything from those sources that is also contained in the Appendices is fair game. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to use anything they've used in the show...because it's ALL in one of the sources you mentioned.

Not even a little bit. One of the sections in the Appendices is a timeline of each of the three Ages. They absolutely have access to those timelines, so the ridiculous timeline screw ups are actually one of the LEAST excusable / explainable things about this show.

Any half-way competent writer could have used the information in the Appendices and written a show that remains faithful to Tolkien's world while expanding upon the limited information without overstepping what was allowed. One of the proper ways to do that would have been to create _AT LEAST_ two series, one focused on Eregion and one on Numenor. Elves are immortal, so it makes no difference how much time is covered during or between seasons in the Eregion show; the elven characters won't change. The important parts of the Numenorean series don't happen until the last 500 or so years of Numenor's existence, and really only the last 100 years or so are important enough to possibly use as the basis for a TV series. Elves could even visit Numenor occasionally in the Eregion series prior to SA2029 when the elves had fallen out of favor with many Numenoreans, showing glimpses of Numenor's decline prior to starting the Numenor series. The Numenor series could then pick up a little before Ar-Pharazon usurps the throne, and continue through the Downfall of Numenor. I would then recommend a third series that covers the founding of Arnor and Gondor by Elendil and ends with the Last Alliance.
And ALL of that is possible just using information from the Appendices.

Seeing Elves and Númenóreans of colour is just uncanny...
*There shouldn't be Eldar of a colour other than being fair of skin, which is logical as they awoke in Rhun during the age of the stars (when only the Lamps of the Valar stood) ~ They've tampered with the timeline of the Second Age, but we don't really have Numenoreans mating with other groups during peak period -- we know the Edain did mate with some Easterlings, and that during the Third Age (after Eru's wraith) the lines of Earendil and Elros did mate with the women of Harad post-Kinstrife and other Middle men of Endor ~*

The people that create these shows don’t understand that Numenor is not just a country title but an ethnicity. There was not “diversity” in Numenor just like there was none in our own ancient history. Same with elves, there are different cultures and regions among the elves. But they all are fair skinned and have almost a divine otherworldly beauty about them. But all these show runners do is put big ears on shit actors and call it good. It really doesn’t surprise me at this point. I remember when I first watched the fellowship of the ring and Galadriel came on screen for the first time, I was awestruck by how graceful and divine she looked. She looked timeless someone who is incredibly old but holds the beauty of youth stuck forever in her features. That is what a first born elf should look like, they should captivate you every time they are on screen. Galadriel from the rings of power reminds me a of bitchy Starbucks barista.

Rings of power doesn't feel like an actual story. The dialogue is so bad that it feels like a description pitch to the writers. It's like walking through a museum.

Clarkson's Farm is the best show on Amazon hands down.
I prefer their somewhat old sci-fi series "The Expanse", but that's just me being a sci-fi buff. 😀

This show costing 1 billion dollars a season is evidence of money laundering to me.
Me to, just look at the cloths.. No style at all. The Dwarven armour hurt my eyes and make me puke in agony.
Overpaid everything, splurge budgets. They are probably carting out fine wine, shrimp, lobster and steak on the meal carts just to let it rot.

I never thought I see a show so bad and lore breaking, that it makes the Shadow of Mordor games look 100% faithful by comparison. I'd like to apologize for mocking Monolith for their teleporting Ringwraiths and orc necromancers. That shit was very lore breaking, but at least those games were fun and entertaining. They also had a strong, masculine, hero, who tried to take on Sauron single handed, with his undead elf friend keeping his corpse alive, after his entire family were murdered. That's a cool story, regardless of how it doesn't fit well into the canon, and was made by people who clearly loved the films and books. This show is just pain, made by people who hate the films and books. Give me they guy commanding an army of mind controlled orcs any day of the week.
Yeah, I discovered Shadows of Mordor recently, for the disappointment in RoP, I watched a playthrough. Honestly, the story is incredible!

ElfQuest had two groups of Elves, one light skinned who looked like Vikings and East Asians, the other dark skinned who looked Somalian and Native American. Pretty cool series of books. If they wanted diversity they could have gone with something that had that already built in their storyline rather than mutilate Tolkien’s world.

Amazon literally permabanned me from writing reviews for writing a negative review TWICE for the first season (after the deleted my first one) just to rig their review score into something vaguely positive. I hate this show with a passion and it deserves all the negativity it gets. They really disliked me saying that Galadriels brother didn't die on the battlefield according to the lore. He actually died a much more metal death. He became the first Elven king of a subterranean Elven kingdom which they got from the dwarves (!!!) and died while fighting a werewolf. Amazon really did the lore dirty.
I gave a 1 star review for season 2, pointing out the writing, plot, pacing and production.
I didn't mention race, gender, the actors, writers, or anything related to 'The Message'.
They still declined my review saying it breaches community standards. Completely rigged.
I'll just resubmit saying "boring and tedious" and they'll probably decline for lack of detail.

If they have any commitments to 5 series, they should buy their way out. If Prime is meant to be more than a hobby, it's becoming a flaming wreck. The last season of The Boys annoyed people. The Rings of Power seems to be wilting. Citadel's arrival didn't set the world on fire (at a cited budget of 300 million). In recent times, Disney announced they were pulling the plug on certain shows while Iger made remarks about a lack of discipline. Warner Bros cancelled projects that were basically finished. In 2022, I think Netflix had multiple rounds of layoffs and cancelled a ton of animated shows that were in development. If the competition were all forced to stop making bad bets, then you'd assume amazon would eventually have to learn.
On the other hand, in the days of tv, you'd occasionally have tv shows that were pretty much cancelled coming back to life. I think that was how Family Guy survived. All of the replacements failed, and they needed shows to fill in the schedule. Maybe Rings of Power survives for now because Amazon doesn't have much else going on. I assumed that was why Disney put out the Acolyte. I assumed they had zero confidence, but didn't want to have a gap in their schedule.
A few hundred million is nothing to Amazon. They can twist the numbers around to convince themselves it's making a profit and run with it

I read somewhere they originally committed to 2 seasons with the intention of five if it did well. Apparently Amazon has claimed it will go on but at this point it would be a sunken cost fallacy. The showrunners were too arrogant to accept they got it so wrong claiming they'd learn from how they wrote season one for season's two's direction, not from outside input. So at this point they deserve all the losses that are coming to them. Remember this show was supposed to be an avenue to massively increase Amazon subs. That went well!
Tolkien isn’t supposed to be a sandbox to make up new stories and stuff that never existed.
There are encyclopedias worth of information filled with stories that have never been adapted or made.
It’s one thing to have to make some supporting characters as devices to forward an arc or fill in some gaps so long as they are minor and don’t interfere with the lore.

This is one of those Tolkien fans that are part of the 50% the show lost. Just from the clips I've seen and the reviews, it is even worse than I thought. On this alone I can assume that it wasn't Halbrand replacing Annatar as Sauron's deception in the forging of the rings with season 1, but that he is doing it AGAIN as Annatar?? What the hell are they smoking?? I also saw clips that showed Tom Bombadil?? You had it right. They took events of the 2nd and 3rd age and just threw them into a blender. Absolutely atrocious.
Rings of Power is more interested in ripping off Peter Jackson. In The Hobbit the Dwarfs are portrayed as having superhuman hand-eye coordination while they sing "blunt the knives, bend the forks". Compare this to Disa's butterfingers. They have no excuse. She's not supposed to be a clumsy idiot character. They've told us she's strong, independent and powerful.

Even if they had stayed true to the books, this series would still be awful because this cast is awful and completely unlikable.
not just the cast, the idea was also bad. There is almost no source material in terms of dialogues for making of the rings. This part was since so short, 2 movies could have been made at max (but would have been perfect writing ) Thats 5-7 hours. So churning up 5 seasons need actual dialogue, plot lines and stuff that tolkien did not write up just for the making of rings.
Imagine lord of the rings getting 3 movies but stuff that was briefly mentioned by tolkien is getting a hundred hours, leaving “deviating from source material” the only option left , as there is none
