I agree with you that the shoulder protection can be a problem, but some people (like me) do not really have this issue and then it's a perfect gorget in a lot of regards. Just a comment on detachable shoulder guards: would be a nice idea but might be difficult to get working. However, what would be easy: PBT could offer the same gorget without the shoulder pads as individual protects for a bit less. Then everyone can choose which option they like to have (although of course one single piece of equipment for all purposes would be better, still). And just a short remark for people with low throat circumference (like myself..): I just glued a bit of extra-velcro in front of the standard one. The velcro band is elastic enough to be stretched quite a bit farther, so one can adjust it easily for a better fit with this. And just an idea for the gorget train: the "thatguysproducts" gorget. Quite a bit more expensive, but some people from my club use those and find them to be the best ones they have ever worn ;)
I have a large thin $100(AUD) gambeson that this gorget fits well under, so I don't really have that much mobility issues with my shoulders. But because my gambeson is so loose the shoulder flaps don't get pushed down enough when I wear the gambeson on top, and so then they make my mask ride up very uncomfortably. It's manageable but can be distracting at times. If you're in hema just for fun this combination of cheap gambeson + chest protector + pbt gorget will save you lots of money but if you want to win tournaments don't bother with these. Overall I agree with the reviewers this gorge is best used alongside a chest protector for rapier or light synthetic sparring. They don't really fit under properly made fencing jackets.
Ok, so I bought the red dragon gorget: it's confortable to wear, it has plastic on the throat piece and rubber on the bottom part. I haven't spar with them yet but so far I can tell I would like it more if it was a bit more rigid.
I think wearing this under my jacket caused my shoulder dislocation. I was wearing this under my AP jacket (which is a bit big on me) plus fencing mask which really limit my head and shoulder movement. Was in a high bind and when my opponent pushed my arm back my right shoulder popped out. Way I see it all the gear limited my mobility and ability to sort of turn my head and shoulders and go with the force. Instead I feel it kinda created a fulcrum with my shoulder jointed don't know if that makes sense.

On the gorget train, can you do a side by side comparison with all three major gorgets and give advice on which ones are best for different weapons?

How tall is Jane? I'm trying so work out some of the sizing myself. SPES sizes are a little weird for skinny people
