    Loving all the meetings and interaction you've been bringing us. This is what's so great about the community. So many brilliant minds all working out various "puzzle pieces" on their own like cells to an organism, then coming together and sharing to gestalt the whole of HEMA forward. Cheers from Texas 🍻 👍

    The mask is quite interesting and I hope to see more of this on the market.

    Just sayin, it's kind of difficult to listen to the conversation due to the background noise (a cafe or restaurant maybe?). Using an external mic might improve the audio quality greatly.

      This was actually at the Longpoint tourney near the bar in the hotel.

    I'm quite torn on the issue of safety equipment, at least for practice and sparring. Given the growing body of knowledge around brain injuries through helmets in various sports, in some cases the presence of protective gear seems to actually make certain injuries worse. Is there much HEMA specific research on the subject?

      The problem is that pepole don´t understand that any the protections don´t make them imortal. they can´t fight like they where some superheros in a Movie.

      Actually we don't take a lot of hits to the head in HEMA. And swords hit in a very different way to a boxing punch anyway.

      There's a very big difference between a 3-5lbs sword hitting your helmet and a 350lbs linebacker driving his helmet in to your face at full sprint.

      Learning, very slowly, it is just as much fun not to get hit

      Well, I can tell you that, through a great deal of research and study, I've come to the conclusion that getting hit directly on the head with a large metal bar will definitely hurt you more than getting hit on the head with a large metal bar while wearing a helmet.

    What a perfectly timed video. I was just looking at their gorgets yesterday!

    I got in on the original Kickstarter and I've been really happy with my mask mod. Only two things I'd say is if you don't have broad shoulders the little curve things can get in the way. I removed mine, but I can tell the area they protected is more vulnerable. Probably just need a resize. The other thing is that they can be quite loud when hit, much like a uncovered mask. I fixed this by adding a layer of leather to the outside.

    In video filmed in such a noisy enviroment you should add subtitles. I'm mishearing a lot of the things you say.

    Have you heard anything about HEMA protective gear based on medieval helmets such as bascinets instead of based on modern fencing masks?

    • @Hashakgik666
      @Hashakgik666 8 років тому +2

      Probably no point since that would significantly impair visibility with no protective benefit compared to a modern mesh mask. When practicing unarmored fighting techniques, all that matters is safety, not period-accuracy, so there's no reason not to just go with whatever is most effective.

    I would personally love to see hema masks that look like the movie TRON... instead of the wire face, how about some clear plastic.. and a tight form fitting skull shape..
