Two years after this video: I ordered kit 7 from SupFen. It took about a week for them to respond (apparently they were on holiday) and after placing my order (payment via western union) I got my kit a week and one day after they confirmed receipt of payment. Apparently that's really fast though. So far I'm really happy with it. The trousers are a bit weird, which is my only complaint. They substituted the gloves to the mitts like the SPES Heavies, and after breaking them in they are very sturdy, even for aggressive longsword fencers like myself. I have taken some wicked hits to the hands with steel and the coach has had to tell me I got hit! All in all I'm quite satisfied, but I've also heard a lot of horror stories about getting into contact with them.
To anyone considering buying this I would like to share my experience with the company. I ordered together with a friend. Describing what we want for both our sets went fine, though the responses were very slow, up to 2 weeks every time. Finally when asking for what payment method we were going to use I responded immediately, only to find that after the regular to weeks I still hadn't gotten a reply. I decided to send a reminder until another two weeks passed. When it had been three months since I have heard from them despite many different attempts at reaching them (Calling, my email, my friend's email etc.) I decided to give up. I don't know if they had some kind of sudden unspoken quarrel with me but I definitely know they were active since many people I know had an order open with them at the time that this was happening. Personally I find this to be an irreconcilable act in terms of wanting to buy something from them ever again. I was quite excited to have my personal gambesson. I hope this helped you in making your decision.
@@eddard9442 Actually they stopped replying to me after I told them how I wanted to pay. But thanks for immediately assuming I'm some bad person. Though even if I did pay despite not having any confirmation of my order or the price, or how to pay at all for that matter it is still highly unprofessional to just leave a customer without saying anything. "Paying customer comes first" should be a very insulting thing for people who order there to hear so I don't know why you would want that to be the case even if it was true. If you're gonna jump to the company's defence please do it with arguments that make actual sense from a customer AND a company's perspective.
Who made that sexy meyer rapier you were holding in the picture? And would you recommend it I've been looking for a good meyer rapier for a while but can't find one.
Really well. We've found SF to be some of the best quality gear available. They do in fact make and supply equipment for quite a number of other HEMA companies around the world, that re-brand it as their own. Gajardoni was one company doing this for example.
Hello Nick I am trying to figure out if Large is good enough size for me. I am about 185 cm tall and 92 kg with 43 inch chest. Do you think k it will be fine e?
I'd not buy anything from Lutel. It looks nice, but is made for re-enactment, not HEMA. As such, the distal taper and mass distribution of blades is not good, both compared to originals, and safety/realism in sparring. Regenyei is not often pretty, but is very functional, with overall good handling, and well tailored towards HEMA use. (Including folding tips, not excessive mass at the tip etc)
Morning Nick, I have a question since I will be getting this kit soon. What gloves can you fit if you wear this jacket and their vambraces? I'm planning on the getting the Sparring Gloves, but I don't think they'll fit on top of those vambraces and no one has mentioned that. I do longsword that's why I need the extra protection. Thanks for all your videos, I've been following for some time now and all are very interesting. Good day.
Everyone I know that uses sparring gloves either does use some vambraces like these, SPES, or RD, or more often simply uses the plastic elbow cup solo, relying on the cuff of the sparring gloves and accepting there is a small gap between them and the elbow cup. Depends whether you want to emphasis protection or dexterity.
@@AcademyofHistoricalFencing thanks for the fast anwser. Do you or someone at your club have experience with the ventilation grommets or slits at the back? Is the difference in heat noticeable?
My response was to the first questioin about customs. About the ventilation, not personally. But friends of ours have the near jackets with the heat ventilations back, the black panel, and really like how cool it is.
@@bobu5213 They don't sell masks. Those are our masks by Leon Paul. The overlay comes in this set. See the Superior Fencing Colonel jacket review that we did, which is red.
Nothing that we have had has been, its purpose built HEMA gear. Some things like shin guards, groin guard and throat protector borrow from other sports and such, as a lot of HEMA kit does. But the vast majority is purpose made for HEMA.
Well, their thigh and shin guards are indeed parts of a riot protection suit they also make. However, I do not know whether it is a riot suit turned into HEMA gear, or vice versa. sc02.alicdn.com/kf/UTB8kZEVn5DEXKJk43Oqq6Az3XXac/Anti-Riot-Suit-Riot-Protective-Suits-Police.jpg

Thanks for sharing, I'm about to place an order with them for several kits for members of our club.
I ordered one. Got everything. Liked it. But i must say the jacket is super warm. But takes hits really well.
Ya me also...
If I ever get into longsword I now know what to get for gear.
What about durability? it would be interresting to know how it holds up in the long term. anyone have this kit for longer periods?
