I watched this whole mess go down. From the beginning media made false reports that rittenhouse had murdered 3 black protesters after Blake was killed. People still believe this to b true. I appreciate your objective presentation of the events. The police had been told to stand down when the riots started on the 1st day. They withdrew to the courthouse behind a barrier and let Kenosha burn. Some citizens fled. Others waited to defend themselves. Some hid in a church which was then targeted by "protesters " who tried to burn it down. Rittenhouse and another armed guard were putting out that fire or trying to. The 1st night I saw an elderly man, who was begging rioters to spare his shop, get hit in the face by a woman armed with a soft drink bottle filled with concrete. He fell unconscious. This was no protest. Law and order were completely withdrawn. If there is blame to be laid I think the governor is responsible. Blm played their part by busing in from Chicago and even flying in from other states. The media and stupid politicians lied and poured fuel on the fire. In the end a kid was blamed. He's said he wishes he'd stayed home. I bet he does.

Emma, you are what I have always expected from exemplary professionals in the medical field. I learnt so much with yesterdays version - I always do when you cover a case. I personally need a lot of info to form a decision. You always give a well rounded full picture of what has happened, it has to take you so many hours of research and thoughtfulness to do each video. I appreciate that thru this, people are given the right information to make an informed decision themselves. I am from a multi cultural family and it can be a mind field at times. So it is great to have factual non emotive points of reference in this debate that has frankly been going on for me for all 56 yrs of my life. Thankyou for including a version I can recommend to my granddaughter, one that I trust. 💖

I agree 100%. One thing about watching Emma is to watch to the end. You might not agree at the start but when she talks through a case and puts all the sides of the conversation on the table, it makes you think twice. I have watched all of her posts and it is great to hear someone talk that is not just looking for thumbs up online. Emma actually encourages listeners to think for themselves and not just go with the flow.

I appreciate you trying to present all the facts in an unbiased manner. I’m not all the way through but I do have one correction for you, Kyle had zero contact with the Facebook post and never saw this post at all. He went downtown to help clean up graffiti with his friend and they ran into the car dealership owners who he offered to help protect what was left of their business. He was actually possibly going to get paid for it to help his mom out. He never had any interaction with the Facebook group, he just happened to run into the owners of the dealership and the guys who posted that post also happened to go to car source as their home base. They only ever met/interacted with each other that night. Other than that, you are spot on for the most part so far. Thanks for doing this. Also Kyle worked in Kenosha as a life guard and his dad/dads family lived in Kenosha and was only 20 minutes from his home. Not 20 miles. He had ties to Kenosha several different ways. Gage the man who survived the shooting actually traveled further than Kyle (which really doesn’t bother me). Kyle also was not illegally carrying his weapon. He couldn’t purchase it himself and it was a straw purchase because his friend didn’t agree to give him the gun until he was 18. He is allowed to carry it openly under supervision of an adult (his friend) so Kyle wasn’t carrying the gun illegally. He was just not allowed to purchase it. He also had already applied for his Firearm ID card for IL right away but the pandemic delayed the application and it wasn’t processed until after the shooting which then caused it to be denied.
I also live in this area (less the. 30 min from the incident) so I have followed this case extensively I work from home so I watched the entire trial from start to finish.

@@kimberlyhood4095 actually it was a friend of Dominick Black (the guy dating his little sister who purchased the gun for him and was brought up on charges) the owners of the car lot (Khindri Brothers) had called to come help put out the fires at the lot the night before the shooting because the owners lived In Milwaukee and Nick Smith lived just down the street from car source. Nick Smith formerly worked at car source. The day of the shooting (the morning after the first night of the riots) nick reached out to Dominick to ask him to drive him down to Chicago area to buy some body armor because he was going to be protecting the other car source lots the night of the riots because they realized police were not going to be responding to put out fires. Since Kyle was going to be helping out provide medical aide to protesters he offered to let Nick use his body armor which he had been issued by the Antioch police department explorer program. He had never met the brothers or worked for them. He was a friend of a friend who was going to be watching the property that night and met them that day. He texted one of the brothers to offer his assistance after meeting them that day when he had gone down to help clean up graffiti from the riots the night before. His grandmother lived about 3 blocks away from the car source lot that the first shooting happened at but he wanted to go straight to a police station to turn himself in after the shooting. However, the Kenosha PD building had been boarded up due to the riots the night before the next closest PD station was in his hometown of Antioch. He did go home first because he wanted to let his mother and sisters know what happened. Then he drove himself with his mom and Dominic to the Antioch PD to turn himself in. He arrived there at about 3 am (the shooting happened just after 12) and the Kenosha PD came to get him at 6am. He wasn’t even handcuffed or in a holding cell. He was literally just sitting in the waiting room of the department with his mother and Dominic. The autopsies, evidence, or statements from witnesses had not even been gathered first before he was arrested and charged with 1st degree murder. Which is why many people believed the DA kept going with his prosecution because he didn’t want to have egg in his face by dropping charges. They could have waited to do their investigation (or at least watched videos and took witness statements) before filing charges. He wasn’t going anywhere. Had they just put out a statement to day, “we are investigating the incident and if charges can be brought we will bring them” but instead they rushed to charge him and then once they realized what actually happened the would have looked like idiots if they dropped the charges so they had to keep going with their prosecution. Basically they wanted someone to say they prosecuted for all the damage done during the riots and because Kyle was a white kid from IL who had a big scary gun he became their perfect scapegoat. Binger wanted a trophy on his wall to use for his own political gain and it blew up in his face (as it should have)
Sorry I know that was a super long comment but I have literally read/watched/listened to every part of this case so I have a very deep knowledge of it. It also why I believe Judge S didn’t dismiss the case with prejudice after Binger and Crouse pulled their incredibly unethical and unconstitutional behavior that should have brought them to the Bar for sanctions (if not totally disbarred) he knew the media was looking for any excuse to vilify him and wanted Kyle to get a not guilty verdict rather than live under a cloud of suspicion that he only got off because of a biased judge. He wanted Kyle to get NG on all charges because he could say he was actually found not guilty instead of winning by technicality. Had the jury come back with any guilty verdicts I believe Judge S would have granted the defense motion to dismiss with prejudice (which they rightfully should have gotten) but he waited for the jury to come back to see if they could take it out of his hands. And I believe dismissed with prejudice can be appealed by the prosecution which meant Kyle could have had the charges dismissed by Judge S with prejudice only to have Binger appeal the ruling and then have this whole circus start over again. Getting a not guilty verdict can not be appealed by the prosecution. Once you are found NG you can not be brought up on charges related to the same case. So Judge S was looking out for Kyle by getting the NG verdict instead of immediately dismissing it with prejudice once Binger had violated Kyles 5th amendment rights and brought up testimony he wasn’t allowed to bring up or when it was found out that the defense had not been given the same quality of evidence the prosecution had.

    • @KatlynJShute
      @KatlynJShute 11 місяців тому

@@Cece-dad17 he went out in the morning to see the damage downtown with his friend and his little sister. He didn’t have his gun then. He then ran into the guys at the dealership who had their entire lot burned down and they were taking to the owners. They mentioned they had another dealership that wasn’t destroyed and they were worried about further demonstrations having their other dealership destroyed. So Kyle and his friend Dominic black asked the owners if they would like for them to also help watch the dealership that night. The owners said yes (despite what they said on the stand. There text messages to prove it) Dominic and Kyle went back to the dealership around 6pm where the owners showed them around, gave them the keys, and told them about where to find the houses and fire extinguishers so they could put out fires if they needed to. He was already at the dealership when the curfew went into affect at 8. Everyone around him were also there before curfew. So he had gone to the downtown area with his gun in the morning/early afternoon and then returned to the dealership around 6pm with Dominic and Dominic’s friend (the former employee of the car dealership) and they had their guns at that point. So he didn’t go to clean up graffiti with his gun. He went to clean graffiti and see the damage on the morning completly unarmed and then returned that night armed after the owners of the dealership asked them to help protect the business. He and everyone else at the businesses that night were already on premises when the curfew went into affect. He didn’t go out after curfew. There were thousands of people out on the streets after curfew and the police were not even enforcing it. They were not stopping anyone on either side and telling them they needed to leave the area after 8pm. He had every right to be out there just like everyone else. Unless we are going to condemn all the other people who were out past curfew, then we can’t hold that against Kyle (even if he had gone out after curfew). We can’t cherry pick who we condemn for breaking a rule when we aren’t going to hold every single person to that same standard.

I'm almost hesitant to comment because I think think you may think I'm one of those celebrity stalkers. But having a non age-restricted version available just under 24 hours after the original aired. You never seize to amaze. You brought so much depth and opposition to jumping to false conclusions to the discussion, Emma. I remain extremely chuffed that I happened to discover your channel at the right time and place. The way in which you describe the horror through which the victims suffer sometimes means that I have to take a sanity break and then finish an episode once I'm no longer that anxious. The Djerf case was one exactly like that. As you described the mother and son and how they were tortured in the kitchen while other family members were brutally killed all around them remains one of the most disturbing ideas I've ever considered. And you take the viewer with you behind enemy lines into the most challenging and life threatening situations.
I fully agree that by adding voices to the characters and then letting those voices speak to us through your finely honed understanding of the human psyche makes it somehow much more palpable than any mega million Hollywood blockbuster can achieve with special effects make up and eery background music and all the other tricks they have in their toolbox.
After doing several memoir writing courses with a super-duper beautiful lady who clawed her life back to sanity after being an on-the-street heroin addict for years. Today she is a very successful publisher and author. She gave me so much but what she took away from me was the patience to indulge in fiction. That's why I'm now hooked on authentic things that really happened and I watch only documentaries on true events. They don't necessarily have to be murders, but can be anything with deep roots in reality.
Thank you so very much for the effort you put in and the transcendence that you enable in the far majority of the fans who sit ready with snacks and something for the dry throat as we anticipate what you will have foraged for us during your bumper packed research process. When are you doing a true crime tour to Cape Town?

A couple of times people tried to apprehend him, he only shot those who physically attacked him whilst he was on the ground having been battered on the neck by a skateboard in a state of shock, having shots fired close-by? Love your show Emma and appreciate you research and insight, but the provocation argument makes no sense. The gun law was drafted in response to crime in the large cities, hence the long barrel rule. It targeted hand guns, sawed off weapons and submachine guns, you know stuff that can be hidden easily.
Provocation does not mean Kyle had to give his life. Does revealing clothing mean someone has to get raped? He wasn't doing anything illegal no matter the opinion, so he wasn't provoking. Rosenbaum was not a victim, first of all, he got shot because he attacked! Same with the others. They did not see Kyle shoot any one, he wasn't any threat, he was running away, no matter what the MOB was saying. He was not an active shooter per definition, and the MOB was out for blood, they wanted to stop him before he got to the police line in order to serve their MOB justice, and the last three attackers were part of that MOB. No heroes here. One thing I did learn in my time in Iraq, was that power vacuums bring out the guns, both good and bad.
Also, I don't think I saw you mention the Prosecution misconduct. LOOK into it! It was so blatant. It does show that the justice system needs to looked at deeply.
Again thank you for what you do.

    • @gwenjackson8583

Seriously. I’m sick of hearing that Kyle somehow provoked the attacks by merely carrying the weapon. As you said, that is almost like saying a woman is inviting rape by wearing a miniskirt…that she must be “asking for it” somehow.

    • @joanneconnor7263

Exactly , an active shooter or someone who had the intention of killing anyone , doesn't runaway with their gun from the people chasing them, who are shouting theyr going to kill him and eat his heart and someone chasing Kyle behind Rosenbaum is letting off shots. Even skateboard guy , a skateboard can be a deadly weapon, not only bcos of the thickness of it being hit over someone's head but also the the trucks on them ( they hold the wheels on) if you get hit with them, your a goner . Kyle didn't cross state lines but most of the protesters did. Nobody ever mentions that. I know skateboard guy heard ..shooter.. ,but if he had took a second to look he would have seen Kyle running away. Kyle did nothing wrong.

Being a native Texan and a naturalized Arkansan, I appreciate your perspective.
Pop always taught us, ya don't point a gun at anyone unless you intended to kill them.
    And.
    All guns are loaded.
I was allowed to handle the bolt action. .22.
    Remembering the above rules.
    I still like shooting it.
And. I own a couple.22 handguns which is my favorite caliber for shooting.
I have never shot an animal. Although I do eat meat. Not like I used to.
    But.
I would never use a gun except in defense.
Probably if someone threatened Sybil or Harley. Furry beasts.
Anywho. Thanks. I am never disappointed with your deep dives.

Only criticism with Emma here is this. Kyle isn't even White. He's half White/half Hispanic. He's the same mixed race as my children ( half English, half Colombian). I know that's an exotic, rare mix here in the UK, but it's still far left misinformation. You see his sister and mum look very Hispanic, he just has lighter colouring, like my daughter, who is blonde with blue eyes. Don't make the same mistake as the Left in excluding Mixed Race people, and mistaking pigmentation for Race. They're the ignorant one's 🙄.

OMGoodness Emma! I'm only at 24:54 & there are already several mistakes here. I'll go with the biggest. Kyle did NOT live 200 miles away! He lived about 20 MINUTES AWAY. This is one of those outright lies that the media told! Kyle lived in Illinois with his mom BUT he worked as a lifeguard in Kinosha, his dad lived in Kenosha, his grandparents, his best friend, a lot of his friends from work & school all lived in Kenosha! It was very much his community.
I live in Louisiana but I'm only about 30 miles from Texas. My late husband worked in Texas. I have close friends who work in Texas. We go to Texas for dinner on a regular basis! Crossing a state line does not mean that you're traveling a great distance.

Ah I don't even know what to say. I watch all your videos, and have been holding off on watching this one. I was born and raised in Kenosha county. First no he should not have been out there. He is a young kid I know he wanted to help, because he worked in Kenosha. But a young kid should not have been in that situation. Ok first with the state line issue. This area is super close to Illinois. when people ask me what state I am from, I say wisconsin and Illinois, because I spent the same amount of time each day in both states. I lived in Antioch and worked in Kenosha at one point. This area is one in the same with both states. Now during this time I was breaking down, because it fucking sucks seeing your home town burnt to the ground. There was so many emotion during this whole situation. This is the area my mom drove me around for hours trying to get me to fall asleep as a baby. This is the area that my mom took me to go to the free museum to see the mammoth bones they found in Kenosha(This Museum was vandalized.) This is the area that I went to when my Dr said "Hey your starting to have contractions, if you want to speed up labor you should go walk around." and I went and walked around the beaches of Lake Michigan. Watching the city get destroyed felt like all the areas my memories were held were getting taken away from me. People were coming from all different areas with destruction on their mind. This wasn't their home! How can I respect what they were doing. I can't. My family home was in the farm area of Kenosha the whole time this was going on in the city, people were posting that they needed to head farther out and burn down our homes in the country, because that is where all the rich white folk our. That scared the crap out of me and I had my 9 mm with me the whole time. It got so bad that many of the men in our area took their guns and posted up at the gas station on the Hwy to chase away anyone that was trying to start issues. You think that if someone tried something on my home that if I called the cops they would be right there? They were dealing with everything else. I watched Rosenbum, and a whole group of people getting in Kyles face threatening him earlier in the day live. My thought was what a punk obiviously he was not afraid of him, because he thought Kyle wouldn't shoot. I watched Kyle live running and giving assistance to anyone who needed it. I watched it live when Rosenbum came around the corner of a car trying to jump Kyle, and Kyle didn't even know he was there. Then I watched live Rosenbum chasing Kyle, and trying to take the gun away from him. If I was Kyle and someone was trying to attack me and take my gun I would have shot him too. The second guy that got shot even said ge would have done the same if he was Kyle. This trial was a waste of money that never should have happened. It was all on video and this is why we have so many dead from psycopaths, because so many would not have shot, and it could have been Kyle dead. I normally never put my thoughts on comments, because I don't want to be called a bigot or anything, but because this was my home town I wanted to say something.

I knew if there was one person I wanted to watch this case by, it was you.
I am generally of the opinion that self defence should count more often. There are so many women in prison right now because they finally defended themselves against a violent abuser and who are paying a very high price for self defense and saving their own lives.
I also can't help but think about Breonna Taylor's boyfriend, who shot at men in civilian clothing who burst open his door shooting around and killing his girlfriend, all without announcing themselves as police. I think if that's not self defense, what is?
The Kyle Rittenhouse case is such a heartbreaking one in my opinion, and all the circumstances around that lead up to this and directly contributed to something like this even being possible are proof that there's something deeply wrong here.
I'm Italian and I cannot imagine going to a protest and encountering people with deadly weapons there.
Do I believe this boy truly thought he had to defend his life? honestly, probably, yes. Do I think he should have never been there with a gun? yes, absolutely.
I think this is just one of many examples of why gun laws in the US are absolutely ridiculous, and no, it doesn't always have to be a school shooting that makes us question why every ~idiot~ in America can run around with guns wherever they go.
You, Emma, did an amazing job at giving a detailed, in depth, professional account and interpretation of not just the event but the circumstances that made it possible, and as always I'm in awe by you.

If believing in someone's right to defend their lives and their property against CONVICTED CRIMINALS, or anyone...makes me far right...then HI, I'm far right I guess.

@@daz1676 I agree that I personally wouldnt want my 17 year old to go out in a situation like that. But it wasn't wrong of him to want to help. I mean kudos to him for standing up and trying to protect the poor businesses destroyed by covid and then riots. Justice was served in this case for sure.

Depending on where a tazer hits you and the clothing your wearing the results can vary massively. Although its unlikely that a high amount of many hits would all be bad connections.
Handguns pose a far greater risk to the public than rifles do. The statistics show this. Concealed carry of a handgun (short barrel) in confrontational situations more often escalates the situation in a way open carry does not. I was under the impression kyles father lived in Kenosha and kyle wotked there and that by the state law he could actually carry the rifle at age 17. The people who asked kyle to protect their businesses were 2nd generation Indian immigrants. Hardly sounds like the actions of a white supremacist. The media was so dishonest with this case. Great video, i dont agree with a few things you said and i think a few things were missed and some maybe downplayed abit, but i can see your actually trying to be balanced and you obviously have some biases like everyone does, maybe more so about guns. Rosenbaum instigated the violence not the gun imo. His girlfriend had to get a restraining order because he attacked her, thats why he took an overdose to try to kill himself. He then checked himself out of the psych ward and went straight into the riot. He was reportedly shouting at numerous people with guns to shoot him that night. Imo he was still suicidal. Him threatening and then charging at a person he knew was clearly armed is what caused all this, not the person carrying a gun or the actual gun itself. Call me old fashioned, but im not really sure a 5x convicted child rapist should even be on the streets. His behaviour shows a dangerous lack of empathy, poor impulse control, suicidal tendencies, and disregard for others and the law. The opposite of kyle really. He was clearly a very unstable man with a history that shows how dangerous he was.

Anyone engaging in arson for political protest or encouraging it should be providing lifetime community service at a burn clinic.
PS... kneeling in front of rioters by police and politicians can also be called incentivizing and validating as well.

I'm not sure if you know but there is police cam video of the Blake shooting and when Blake girlfriend called the police she was screaming Blake was going to kidnap her kids. That is why everything happened so fast.

This was very balanced and informative - thank you. Considering all aspects of the build-up and playing out of this case, it's clear that there was a whole cocktail of disastrous histories and circumstances that lead up to what happened that day - naivety, mental illness, racial tensions, dubious actions and morality on the part of the police, genuine but fatal heroism, and much more... so many contributory factors that the legal system - being the inflexible dinosaur that it is - had to crush down to size in order to fit it into its highly restrictive parameters. There are many victims in this case as well as, sadly, manipulators like Trump and the Far Right who sought to exploit it for their own purely nefarious ends. I hardly dare say this, but it's possible the police officer who shot Blake has been judged harshly: what would any of us do in a situation when we believe that we might be stabbed and killed and how swiftly would we react in order to protect our own life? I do not think that this incident can in any way be compared with the brutal, sustained and public fate that Derek Chauvin inflicted on George Floyd. The only other thing I would say is that I hope Kyle Rittenhouse can come to a point in his life when he can reflect on the dreadful decisions that resulted in him being in the wrong place, at the wrong time and with absolutely the wrong "tool" in his hands, and that he can make some kind of a positive contribution to a world that is desperately in need of help. All of this in the light of the latest school massacre in the US.......

I’m binge watching all the episodes, because I don’t know how come I didn’t know about this channel until very recently!!! Of course I love it!
Anyway, you cracked me up with “pigs, lye and spade”. A new T-shirt slogan, no? Lol!
Thank you for all the deep dives and all the work. The best true crime series I’ve seen so far.

I was watching the latest on the Ethan Crumbley case and could not help noticing the mobile phone footage that was displayed. And I wondered whether big channels like NewsNation are subject to the same oversight relating to age restrictions and so forth that is imposed on you?

I'm just going to say this regarding Mr. Blake, if you don't like how the police handle things, please join a police force and be the change you wish to see. Until you have lived it, you really cannot say what you would do.
