Imo keeping your empathy and emotions about cases is absolutely important to do a good job. Sometimes, if you see so much tragedy you get kind of numb to it, and while it is important to be able to distance yourself enough to live well while doing this kind of work, it's still important not to get too numb. These are all people that matter and imo someone who still feels deeply for the victims despite having seen countless tragedies is doing a good job.

What sickens me the most about this case is the footage of the children on the stairs. You can hear them saying “Jordan is in the garden” and pointing out of the window. I heard a diagnosised psychopath say, "nature loads the gun, nurture pulls the trigger" and that is the most perfect way to describe how nature AND nurture goes into why some people kill while others do not. A lot of use can say we've had awful childhoods, but we do not go on to hurt anyone. It takes that perfect storm of conditions to go into a killer for these things to happen.

  • @dinara_safina

Christopher's brother is amazing!! Too many people would have heard that and either let it go or said it's not their business, which I hate. Especially when it comes to children and animals. Yes, it is your business!! It's all of our business to protect those who cannot protect themselves or to bring something to justice. RIP Jordan. I know you're happy and loved when you are now, but you deserved so much better in this life.❤
Edited to add: Thank you, Emma, for holding mother's responsible whether or not they were the one who actually carried out the act. I commented on a video on the horrific case of Genie Wiley and was called "heartless" because I held her mother responsible along with the father, even though she was legally blind. For the record, I am disabled and would never allow my child to be abused. It's a mother's DUTY to protect.

    • @haileyranson8255

Being disabled is NOT an excuse!! I'm also disabled and beat myself up daily as to whether I'm a good enough mother. I wish I could believe in myself but it also helps me stay accountable.
I feel like being disabled yourself makes it even worse if you stand by and allow someone to abuse anyone, let alone your child! You know what it's like to feel vulnerable and reliant on others (a lot of the time) and should therefore want to protect others who are even more vulnerable than you!

I mean, it actually just goes against human nature in general to hurt children. Socially and evolutionarily, we’re made to find the faces and mannerisms of pre-pubescent children adorable and have an innate desire to protect them. No need to bring sexism into it; I’d say that the person who murdered the child is at least as bad (and arguably worse) than the person who allowed them to be buried. I don’t think the presence of ovaries magically changes that.

I’ve met women whose partners wouldn’t let them leave the house without them, or would insist on them keeping them on the phone the whole time they’re out of the house so that they can be completely aware of what they’re doing at all times. The idea that through that, a woman should be able to obtain birth control, hide it in the home, and take it daily without being caught, is ludicrous. It would probably make more sense to just believe someone if they say their partner forced them to carry multiple children.

If a human keeps having kids, after 2 & is on welfare, my firm belief is they should have options for sterilization, & no more welfare after 1 child.

    • @RebeccaGreen-jt3qk
      @RebeccaGreen-jt3qk 5 місяців тому +2

I totally agree. One of my neighbors has 8 kids by 7 different dad's. She is already 3rd generation welfare recipient. She does drugs, drinks, has different men over all the time, It's like a circus over there. Her kids run wild and have absolutely no discipline. The 12 year old has already been caught with a boy in bed. Her kids will also be on assistance for the rest of their lives unless there is one that actually has the motivation to not live like that. The mom gets free medical, thousands in food stamps ( each person is allowed up to 300 per month) I don't know if they all get the 300 . She also gets cash assistance and her place is mostly paid for by the state, oh I mean taxpayers. The government should put a cap on the number of kids that taxpayers have to support in each family. If after 3 kids are on stage assistance, then the mom/parents have to foot the hospital bill, food, and other medical and financial issues. Once these leeches find out they won't be getting the big haul from baby number 4 they may actually realize they can't afford it and God forbid they actually work for a living. Also the government needs to not give out assessment to these moms that won't put down baby daddy's name to go after for support. The mom only gets support if the dads name is put down and he is legally the childs father. Then make them pay support. The welfare system is so messed up. My other neighbor is head of the homeless shelters DHS program. She absolutely loves helping families that need it. Finding them shelter, helping with their bills until they get settled etc. She has fits about how the government also give out all the assistance to homeless junkies. They get food stamps, Free medical and disability/SSI. They sell the food stamps for drug money and use the cash for drugs. Even if she can get these losers a place they never stay in it for long. They still use the cash for drugs that is supposed to be for the rent. Sometimes the rent is as low as 50 dollars on the government subsidized housing. Then of course they always leave it trashed with needles, pipes, beer bottles and trash everywhere. Sometimes the floors are urine stained or feces stained. Again at taxpayers expense. I personally think mom's on assistance should be sterilized after 3 kids and all junkies sterilized.

7:04 I'm being judgy with you Emma. Was having this exact conversation with my 3 sons (28, 28, 27). Discussing low birth rates and how women now have the choice about child bearing; and are exercising that choice.
One of them told me that he is aware of couples choosing not to have children due to the risk of having a disabled child.
A great conversation with my sons, I sent them off to uni and SSs to the army with a box of condoms each 😂 no grandkids yet 👍

She didn't once lose her composure, she didn't lose any integrity, she made sure that they knew just how horrific the crime was,how sickening and that they would have the maximum and I know if shed had the power to hand over life woth no parole, she would have.

I spent the better part of a week in the preemie nursery at Texas Children Hospital in Houston when my healthy 6 month old niece almost died after getting another round of vaccines.... Some of the babies had been there for a year or more & many had been abandonned by their families. My niece looked so out of place as she was twice the size of most of the others. There was a big open room next to the nursery full of rocking chairs where matronly looking volunteers would come & rock the babies so they'd know the human touch. They had another nursery for babies that were born even earlier.

I understand the financially issues but I believe we should all take parenting classes and assessments upon the discovery of pregnancy. Then perhaps with any further pregnancies there could be a sort of refresher course. I’m probably very naive but like you say, most other things we need a licence for, to take tests for. Yet we can have kids and become parents without any restrictions.

My daughter is special needs. She has an attachment disorder that's due to her "father" causing so much uncertainty in her life. She's Autistic, learning disabilities and has high anxiety. I met a wonderful man 2 years ago, she was 7. And for 2 years he has been a stable figure in her life. He has took his time to earn her trust it's still pending! He has shown so much love and patience. And I wouldn't have had it any other way. We cannot live together and we cannot have a normal relationship. But we are both fine with that as my little girl will ALWAYS come first. I wouldn't put her at risk, her feelings, her emotions, her mental health for anything regardless of how much I love my partner. And he 100%agrees. If he didn't, he wouldn't be my partner😂
I cannot and will never understand any mum who puts a man before her children. I absolutely love my daughter, even on the days she can be nasty and aggressive towards me. Those days I hug her tighter and love her harder because that's what she needs.

This case is just horrible. That poor little boy. I'm so glad that even the system got put to justice, but there is no amount of money that will justify for the death of Jordan. He deserved so much better. Thank you, Emma, for covering this case. I love how passionate you are, especially when it comes to child death. I don't think that 25 ans 28 years in prison are enough, because they don't deserve to set foot outside ever again. If they are willing to brutaly mistreat an innocent child into it's own grave, what else are they capable off? Not to mention the complete neglect...
