They should swap the whole bike. You ride to the dealer, sign the paperwork and ride off with a replacement bike. Aprilia can fix the recalled bikes in their own time.
Thank you for adding time stamps for the love of god now I might start watching these podcasts
Mine started leaking oil! the problem is that although it's still under warranty and I took it to the dealership (~200 miles) and it's been over 2 months overthere!! I left a video review because Aprilia customer service are not answering @
I've sold over 30 660's and it seems as though NONE of them were affected by this. We do have a couple unsold bikes getting new engines and it's nice to see Piaggio move swiftly. I'll share our first engine swap experience.
hey man what is the turn around on these swaps for you guys? I feel like im getting the run around from my dealer, updated today and said maybe next week or so hes not sure. im ready to tell them no thanks refund and take my money to a deal in the next state that has two ready. this will make it three plus weeks now if its next week without the or so added to it lol.
Yeah dude any update?
@@russianjesuz We've done one engine swap so far about two weeks ago. This was not a customer bike. The next one is due to be completed this week, it is a customer bike purchased from another dealer. We have three more from our inventory not sold yet.
@@Victor_Moto Thanks for the update, so it just sounds like a low chance of getting an rs660 with that issue.
@@russianjesuz very low chance. Seems as though it was just a batch of them and it was resolved.

OMG... No shit!
One of the [if not the] BEST Yamcasts EVER
Happy anniversary guys
Biscotti connecting rods seemed good at the time... Who knew? Good with the late night espresso 😎
Love the idea of the RS 660. But I'll wait and see how it plays out
I've seen them all !! Always waiting for some news and else from you boys! It's really noticeable how the podcast changed from the first episodes ! obviously to the good side !
C'mon boys let's goo!
Aprilia know exactly which bikes need to have the engine replaced because all it was was a bad batch of parts. It's NOT an engine design issue so it's not like "oh my connecting rod broke better get that fixed". No. You'll get a new engine before you ever have a problem with it. My countries dealer replaced 3 engines on July 9th. That's 3 days after news broke, they had new engines in stock and ready for replacement. IMO Aprilia handled this very well.
Was contacted by aprilia to get my RS660 bike to the dealer. I believe they now which bikes are affected...Told me the bike needs updated and would cover 600 mile service plus update
If I wanted to ride something that made it's own decisions based off of my input I'd own a fu*k**g horse.
true
If this is original, it’s fucking fire
Plus it's going to make working on it yourself completely fucked let's say you want to take your entire bike apart and put it back together with my 06 KLR 650 it's easy as a cake I can do it and probably about 5 hours with a few bolts left over to spare with a brand new bike I couldn't even imagine all the electronics and now you have clutch by wire throttle by wire brake by wire
Two many electrical systems just like a car all computers running everything
ILL stick with the JAPANESE BIG FOUR... I know the Gsxr750 isn't the prettiest bike but Shes my dream.. 8k miles going on 3 years..love every mile..ride safe everyone!
Electronic clutch control... Now Yami can carry wheelies to his hearts content!
I love these boys, we need more podcasts 👉🏻👈🏻
The first caller gets my round of applause 👏
I could totally see the clutch by wire being used in the future with a feature like honda has for it's cars, Adaptive Cruise Control type stuff
Probably that one dude sitting on his gaming chair with a gixxer beside him thats got monster energy in the tank with a straw, sippin away with both eyes starring at screen for 52 weeks waiting for each Yamcast.
I had a similar issue with a 1st year 2010 Aprilia RSV4.
The big end of the rod was bored 1 mm off center.
They blew 5 motors at a demo event in Spain.
Dealer replaced the entire motor when I had just 200 miles on it.
They changed my (same as yours) motor under warranty too. No big deal really.
I have a 2018 Dorsoduro 900 and had a 2013 Dorsoduro 750 that was totaled when I was cut off. That V-Twin that is in those bikes is bulletproof. Only issues I’ve had with between the two bikes with combined 20,000 miles was a faulty valve cover gasket. Sucks that that motor doesn’t adhere to euro 5 emissions. The 900 V-Twin has the same power output and more torque than the new 660 and if they would’ve changed the gearbox it could’ve been much better than the 660 all around.
Love binge listening every 5 or so episodes
I'm binge listening them when I have a lot of work to do
A Tuono 880 sounds nice with 125-130 hp and 60-80 ft-lbs of torque
I am thinking the electronic clutch would be like the magnetic clutch for ACs. So instead of springs you would have magnets. Plus if electronics fail, the clutch will simply disengage, also it will make your bike lighter too.
If it’s only 700 bikes out of thousands produced it sounds like a bad batch of con rods vs a poor engine design.
RS660 has that character , you either want character or reliability? Go figure 😂😂😂
Some are ok with visiting dealerships all summer
Like buying a harley and then leave it at workshop for mayor electric rebuild or engine failure 😂
How would you conttrol position if on a hill with that clutch though? Sometimes you want to roll back a tiny bit out of a parking space then move off. Ps agree i found a solution to not finding neutral on ducati scrambler…don’t use it!
Come hang out in Roseburg Oregon, we can ride in up to Crater Lake
I think gear is important as well when talking about fatalities. As a returning rider that gears up every time, I'm literally blown away by how many riders I see riding sans basically any gear whatsoever.
The rod can lock the engine up. That would be a big problem until (if) you pull the clutch in.
My friend owns a RS660. Every 200kms his check engine light goes on and stays on for another 200kms after it goes off for 200kms and the process repeats.
I have one as well, the engine light is like a random thing , contacted the dealership they said it’s not concerning however they will check on the first service
Aprilia over here installing light-seeking rods.
I am a victim of this. It absolutely sucks. The dealership has had my bike for 3 weeks now, and you know what the best part is, they haven't even worked on it. They claim that Aprilia can't keep up with demand for these parts so everyone is backed up, or so they say. I only made it to 1,029 miles. I'm trying to somehow return it/sell it/whatever it may be I just don't want it anymore.
That really sucks. It’s a shame that even in today’s time they can’t seem to make a trouble free bike. I think I will stick to Japanese bikes.
That sux. I would be losing my mind.
Look into your states lemon laws. You may be able to get free of that. What a crappy thing to go thru.
@@matthewbutler3513 lemon law won’t help considering the manufacture is going to take care of the problem might want to read the contents of what define lemon law besides just saying it.
@@Sn0wyriot Not sure why you're soo sensitive about this. This is why i said check your states laws. They differ. If that vehicle is in repair for too long, it may qualify. Again, state laws differ. But im sure you knew that, right? lol
All this new tech... hope suzuki and some other manufacturers can keep making the old stuff. Interesting to see how the electric clutch does. Shame about the 660.
When are you raffling off the rebel? My 60th birthday is coming up in September love to have it
I want a Tuono, I've ridden the Tuono and I've shopped for a Tuono. I still ended up with an MT-10 and a few aftermarket parts (reflash, slip on and Penske shock) because I want my bike to start and run every time.
I did basically the same thing. 2 yrs later and I’m still happy with my MT10
Progressive can prolly get yall the real info for basically anything that can be insured.
My insurance didn't go up just cause thousands of noobs picked up hyper bikes and tried to fly to the sun so I think your right and volume is the issue.
The guy who called in about the PA MSF course is correct. Because of COVID, plenty classes were closed in the north east. My friends an I were looking to take the classes and the closest place was over an hour half away. As for buying a bike without a license, that's what I did, and I'll be using that to take the skills test.
Took the course in June in Bristol. You have to use their bikes. I did it on a shitty 1995 Honda they provided. They had 2 groms they refused to let us use.
@@Ricky_Spanishh Yeah that Bristol is a little over an hour from me, so is every MSF. I think I'll just do the skills test and be done with it. I've been practicing a lot on the skills test as often as I can. Even posted some videos too. Unfortunately I'll be using my bike, a new low rider S which is heavy at 675lbs. 🤷♂️
I would love to have a rs660. It is a beautiful bike.
Same bro, I’ve been looking forward for the RS Tuonu, but my closest dealership is at Las Vegas. Probably gonna get in a year or two
Sexiest bike
@Richard Hart it will be worth it, just wait until a new batch come that doesn’t have any problems.
Im hoping to get one this week, the stars and stripes limited edition, i have 16 bikes, mostly Ducati and MVAgusta's, this will be a whole new experience.....
Wait, you have to wait until the engine fails? Thats crazy! I wouldnt wait! Thats a deadly risk.
I thought this problem was in the first bikes that were produced, they know the bikes affected and are replacing engines BEFORE they grenade
We've sold over 30 660's and we've yet to have any of those affected. A couple of recently delivered ones are but we're handling them before selling. Hasn't been a big issue from my perspective.
That clutch would b like a hydostatic clutches on a quad runner 125..gears but no clutch..let iff gas n shift....i would b for that on st bikes..btw..i have cable clutch on my bike n love it..ol school...
since its been one 1 year now, is the bike still worth it?
They should make and app that allows you to plug your phone to your bike’s computer and customize it from there. Having to go trough the dash board just to change the hour it’s just a pain.
Gonna wait for the 2022
Less congestion and a massive increase of the average speeds (even below the speed limits ) shows how dangerous the infrastructure really is.
So is it a good idea to buy an rs660?
On Aprilia page you can check if your Rs660 is safe you just need vin number.
I'm really happy mine isn't affected!!!!!!

Hey Noob! I gotta' 2019 MV Agusta 800RC. Number 091. If ya' wanna' ride it I'll drag it down from Fort Worth. Not just saying.
Is the 270 degree crank inherently imbalanced? A 180 degree crank being balanced.
google says this "A single two-stroke engine produces pollution equivalent to that of 30 to 50 four-stroke automobiles" is that wrong?
How do you screw up a parallel twin? Geez
Having had a quick look at sales figs, it's a bit questionable to me that Aprila can actually afford to replace all of these engines. I hope they have good insurance, or lawyers for the suppliers to accept responsibility.
Aprilia is owned by Piaggio which is one of the biggest scooters manufacturers so taking a hit is not a big deal for them.
About 700 Machines world wide are called back
I think its directly related to how bad people were driving cars and suvs and trucks suddenly while more bikes were now on the road. I saw so many redlights run and people not looking while merging in or lane changing. I saw so much bad behavior in cars that would be significantly dangerous to motorcycles. So yes bikers could hurt themselves but I think the other vehicles increased there bad behavior 10 fold.
According to the Italian company, one of the connecting rod suppliers did not faithfully follow the specifications requested by Aprilia.700 motorcycles recall.
700? Worldwide? Where did you get that figure?
Need some good Eurobike press? My Triumph just crossed 6k miles. I figure I have AT LEAST 1000 more miles before I have to replace the entire engine.
Triumphs are reliable and well made, its the italian bikes that rly have the reliability issues.
Just curious if you can answer this question... as it seems to me this would allow for a lot larger client market, why all motorcycles don't come with rekluse style auto clutches? Mow many young people that never learned and never will learn how to drive a manual transmission, older people that don't want the stress of clutching st stops etc... for an additional $500, i don't see why it's not at least an option to help get more people on 2 wheels. Adding additional electronics, just increases the price exponentially and that further deters people from getting a new bike. I bought a 11' R1, that has all the electronics any bike would need with the exception of it would be nice having a factory cruise control setup.
Also, if you're having a hard time finding neutral on just about any bike, make sure the clutch is adjusted so it fully disengages or try pulling it in a little more when you're running into problems to see if that fixes the issue.
Recluse clutches suck and so does your idea. Learning to use a clutch isn’t hard and if it’s too much for you then you seriously have no business on a bike.
@@monkmoto1887 Yeah bro, the fact that you think your opinion is what I was looking for here and you took the time to waste on typing that, hilarious. I've ridden/raced bikes since 1998, and just because I know how to use a clutch doesn't mean the industry doesn't need more people buying in. Maybe you like paying 20k for a decent motorcycle, but I definitely don't and am all about exploring options (even ones I wouldn't use) to find a solution to these insane prices... instead of being a little bitch about what I think people should do... like some folks. Smfh. Now if yammie or one of the crew I was actually asking a question to, to get a legitimate response, could answer, that would be great. ... fucking assholes always trying to bully someone better use that hater ass shit on somebody that will accept a B list alpha you unhappy fuck.
For everybody else, I was referring to the autoclutch style of clutch, not necessarily the brand, as opposed to electronics that'll likely add 5-10x's the cost of an auto clutch.
ok but is this a good beginner bike
R7 seems good now
New sportster woooooo maybe its good this time
So is it a safe bet to move on from saving to get this bike I happen to love? Or will aprillia get these issues resolved? My other option would be a Honda CBR650r. Any opinions?
The heart wants what the heart wants. My advice: wait for the next year’s model, to have those issues sorted out. But from my experience the CBR is just as good of a bike as the RS660
@@danrib4048 Thank you for the feedback. That sounds like great advice to me! Take care

Its 700 out of over 20k bikes. Yamaha and honda have both had similar bike issues. People need to chill out and realize at least they are doing the right thing. I love mr rs660 and wouldn't change it fir anything in the same category. Buy your bike be happy. Don't live by the internet.
@@aethelwulfwarlord1475 where did he say the 660 sold 20k?
@@aethelwulfwarlord1475 is the context not the number of bikes with the issue? That's how I took it
Honestly, either way, those numbers seem way off. Obviously it's a production machine, but I have my doubts they've managed to slap out 20k of them so far.
@@aethelwulfwarlord1475 As did I, which is why I was saying where did he say anything about them selling 20k of them? 🤷🏾♂️

Hello yammie!
When i read these headlines on my phone a week or so ago, i immediately thought of the CEL on the yammienoob give away bike. What a shitty situation. I also however, smiled at my honda filled garage. Im always thinking of other brands, when planning my NEXT purchase. Shit like this, makes me stick with the Honda. Though id trust any of the top 4. Yam, kaw, honda, suzuki.
I feel the same about my Yamaha and the big four. Love a lot of the bikes from all brands, but reliability is a big part of the decision for me and it seems the premium brands just can't do as well as the big four.
YAMMITE!!!

Don´t blame all Euro bikes, only the itialian ones are shitty ;-) Still I´m proud to be a 660 owner in about one week - it already arrived at the dealer and is waiting for extra parts.
