I think the Aprilia has too much plastic to be classified as a naked bike. That's just my opinion. To me it most definitely looks like a super sport. It's basically fully faired. I love the look of the Hornet. You can call it whatever you want, but at the end of the day it is what it is. Everyone has there own style if you will. What is the most beautiful bike to one person may be another person's least favorite.

I ride MTB ( besides motorcycles ). One thing I can point out about wider handlebars is that you have much much more control on the angle / direction of a turn you make.
Same thing has been happening in the MTB industry. Now handlebars are with 35% wider that in 2000

Got my bike licence 5 years ago and am a bit big for it but super comfy bars on my CB500F. still a bit narrow so I ride with my pinkies off the bar ends. I have ridden super sport 600's for 30 years, had 6 of them and still have 1. I switched 4 years ago to a super naked 1000 and I love it. I'll never go back to a 600 sport bike. Nakeds are so much more comfortable (I've had a bad back for most of my life) and I like the handling better too. I'm not looking for 160mph top end any more, I like the 0-100 in 4.8 sec. hooligan style riding now....you guys can have that top end stuff.

My last bike a CCM644 Supermoto. But 14 years ago it was decided that we needed a new kitchen instead. Now I have just bought a 2002 CB900F Hornet and it is so good to be back in the saddle. The Hornet is such a great user friendly machine that you can go for a long ride or just pop to the shop on and it is happy in almost any environment. After 14 years away from owning a motorcycle I felt at home straight away on the Hornet. I thought I would buy something old and cheap for the first year and then upgrade but I really don't see what I could upgrade to that would be better for my needs that the 900 Hornet!

2 things I wanted to add, the term street fighter were also know as "hooligan" bike over in Europe. That and the original superduke came out in 2005 as a 990, though yes you are correct about the 1290 coming out in 2014. Fully have to aggree suzuki release the b-king at the wrong time and I am truly surprised they haven't designed a new version to compete with the current super nakeds because the naked 1000 they have is quite a slouch compared to the rest. Great video keep up the good work.

130-150hp is the sweet spot for a naked bike imho assuming it's a large displacement 900cc or over. Those engines are capable of so much more than that wich is why it's the bulletproof zone... When you take a 200 horsepower engine and just make it reliably put out a 145 horsepower and up the torque you have Absolutely reliable fun bike to ride that you will never need to worry about outside of routine maintenance. I honestly thought that 130-150hp is the sweet spot for the most fun on road on a naked bike. If I was in the market for a bike I'd be taking a hard look at the Honda CB1000-R Black Edition. That is suchba sweet bike that is probably going to last forever. And I'm willing to bet it's super easy to work on like oil changes etc.

I owned a 98 Honda 750 NightHawlk. That was a lot of fun. But was not my ideal at the time. Coming from 750 Shadows.
Own a 98 Valkyrie now. But almost snatched up a 919. The Valk was what I wanted as a teen. Kinda committed to riding into the ground.

Sounds like you boys love your 919 as much as I live mine. Being over 40 now, she's still fun and quick but won't kill my back.

I love the concept of powernakeds! I have a BMW R1200R, that’s still truly naked but a powerful engine. The Tuono in the video looks nearly identical to the BMW S1000R. BMW lists it as naked as well but let’s be honest, it’s a full blown sport bike.

i have a cb650r and i love that bike i really feel like it can be chill it can rip and can properly take on a track or street all the same, it seems to be able to do it all quite well so i have to agree with the 919 hornet being a jack of all trades much like the cb.

You guys keep talking about the "Choke" on the 919, Busa, etc.. It's nice to see that you realise they're actually high idle adjusters but you still seem to think they're pointless. Trust me, on a true cold start (ie: Not in Texas), they are very necessary. In the early days, they were manual levers. The levers disappeared and the ECU/actuators eventually took over. Now, throttles are fully electronically controlled but still, during a cold start, they're doing the same thing those levers did to keep the bike from stumbling and stalling until it warms up.

I don’t use the word naked. If you can see the whole engine, (Triumph Bonnie / Royal Enfield Interceptor) it’s a traditional motorcycle. Just take a good look at any big or midsize Japanese bike built from the early 70s to mid / late 80s. Their looks are timeless.

If you think that the Honda 919 was Honda's first naked or standard bike... There are those of us who remember the late 1980s CB1 400cc I-4 and the RC31 NT650 Honda Hawk GT 650cc V-twin, and their classic british bike clone, the GB500, well before John Blood rebooted the modern Triumph brand in the 1990s. I had one of those Honda Hawk GT bikes, and still remember it fondly, and it pre-dated both the Ducati Monster and the SV650, and had aluminum spar frame, aluminum single-sided swing arm, and other street-adapted aspects of the RC30 race bike... but the Honda Hurricane CBR600F was less expensive and more popular, well before the 599/Honda Hornet. Another Honda half-faired near-naked bike was the RC51-related VTR1000 Super Hawk, along with the TL1000S Suzuki, which pre-dated the SV1000-S. And who can forget Suzuki's Bandit line, from 400cc up to 1100cc inline 4 cylinders

Here in the UK the 919 was just called the 900 Hornet. I have the CB600FS which has a cockpit fairing, which means it's good for 150+ mph. I have done 162 mph on it once, and it was scary as hell, lol. Do you guys know guys know that the Hornet had it's own race series? I race everything on my bike it has all the power and aggression I could ever need.
