Power steering on a motorcycle confirms the adage, "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should".
@@22smcrrider96 dumber option? AC on a bike... it would still probably sell in the US lol
How about Computer Reviewed Assisted Power (CRAP) steering using AI tied in to the braking and suspension ? Boring.
Whilst listening to the 'cast during my weekly kitchen cleaning...I ordered a Hawaiian pizza not moments before the pineapple question was posited...
They have literally made the street 500, which is what they use in their MSF course and I also learned on one. They're super beginner friendly.
*its a Benelli Leoncino 500 with harley badge...*
@@daniellacko6620 it may look like it, it is not.
I agree. It was great duringy msf at Harley.
I wonder if that was a Harley engine or if they just out sourced it if it was their engine I could definitely see a line of smaller sportster badged bikes for beginners
I’ve ridden my 500 for over two years and 28k mi. Not the greatest bike but perfect for a beginner.
I'm about to buy an MV Agusta and i was hoping so hard that you were going to talk about them when someone asked you what's the coolest bike you rode 😂
power steering on moto…sounds like a 737-max disaster waiting to happen
Oh jesus, youre absolutely right.. Did the faa finally allow those back up yet?
@@MonstaFreak13 lol what ? They were cleared 2 years ago… it’s a farce

@@MonstaFreak13 haha, i think so. Finally admitted the pilots should have been trained before using
@@MonstaFreak13 yup they fixed the issues and raked Boeing over the coals for it. A few directors lost their jobs over it. Several other countries, including China, have not yet approved them for flight yet within their countries
I think more and more of us are getting into GP. I've definitely enjoyed hearing you guys talk about it
975 Sportster released today and it’s probably the closest we’ll get to a small Harley 😂 Here’s hoping for a 975 Panamerica
Does the 883 not exist anymore? 💀
@@micaelabrown9820 I think it still does but not for long
I think the 975 is replacing the 1200
There is talk of a 975cc Pan-America. It's also likely going to include a new Sportser bike. I'm looking forward to seeing if H-D will screw it up or not
price wise they screwed it up 🤣
Harley released a new Sportster today! The 2022 Nightster 975cc, 90hp, 70tq, 485 pounds wet, Brembo calipers and master cylinders, it's a nice little package!
@@ozicryptoG What a retarded comment, nobody even mentioned "if anyone is talking about it". The funny thing is. Everyone is talking about the new Sportster S, Sportster Nightster and Pan America, you just live under a rock.
@@ozicryptoG that joke was dead 30 years ago
Their new "entry level" Nightster has 90 hp and 70 ft pounds of torque in a 480 pound cruiser. For a cruiser, it'll be a rocket ship. Not sure selling it as "entry level" is a good idea. There's going to be a lot of wrecks
You know as far as power steering on motorcross bikes goes I could see something like this being useful in some of the bigger adventure bikes As a method for reducing fatigue while riding down particularly harsh technical trails.
On the other hand if I was a serious adventure writer I would also question the wisdom of installing yet more Tech on bikes that are already Suffering from overcomplexifacation.
Anyone else wanna see Harley come back out with a line of sport bikes like buell did when they were together I wanna see an American high revving competitor to the ninja and gsxr line
It's absolutely pointless, sport bike guys already have bikes from companies that can get it right and Harley guys aren't gonna buy anything that doesn't keep to the code.
@@wubstepgrandma maybe the older generation of Harley people but the new generation is different I grew up around harleys and while I like them I still remember going in delarships and seeing buells when I was a kid thinking how awesome they looked and sounded I think Harley could pull it off if they could actually do their homework and be able to compete in power, price and reliability they definitely have the resources to do it they proved that with the pan america
The King of the Baggers nutjobs were throwing Road Kings around Laguna Seca as fast as 600 twins cup riders. Maybe Harley doesn't have to build that good a bike. Just throw some crazy bastard on an average quality bike, and he still might win...
@@wubstepgrandma definitely the die hard harley fans wont buy it, these days it seems more and more riders are willing to try
Yamaha, NO ! JUST NO !!! We don't need no F**king Power Steering !!!
Air conditioning is next for bikes
Watching this on nightshift in Australia whilst driving a 600 ton Dredge, awesome I love the trivia
HD should have put the Buell Blast Engine into a small frame (rebel size) cruiser bike for a starter bike.
Love this channel,
you guys ROCK.
Have you guys discussed why so many machines coming out these days need a tail tidy modification straight from the factory ?
Why are so many manufacturers putting the licence plate in a hideous place with horrible looking designed mudguards on the rear of many of their models ???
Am I wrong ?
Please discuss....
You can thank the DOT (Department of Transportation) for that. They do it to make the blinkers/brake light easier to see and overall make the rear of the bike more visible.
Maybe some Countries require huge hideous rear mudguards on their bikes in response to your answer ?
Cheers 🖕
Motorcycle companies are obligated to put the license plate and rear blinkers the furthest in the rear due to regulations (Euro/DOT/etc.).
I got my first bike today!! ninja 400. Im big happy mr. papa pubes!
Appreciate all yalls efforts 👌🏻
The Buell Blast was a great little bike. A real little Harley.
Power steering is preparation for autonomy.
You guys gonna take a swing at the new Husqy Norden? I think I really want one but I'd love to see your take on it. You guys tend to find a lot of important consumer points that other moto-journalists miss or gloss over.
Dork in the road just bought one. You will have multiple thoughrough reviews comming soon. See his work on klr 650 if you want an idea about quality.
Yay! Another pod cast with whinny dude and spot! Good job guys!
I'm surprised you guys have never talked about the Suzuki Bandit series of motorcycles, or from what I can find. The 600 / 650 are are strong choice as the "first big bike" in the UK/EU as they are can comply with A2 regulations, really fun to ride and dirt cheap to pick up. Even whilst restricted, they're a lot of fun - speaking from experience. Would love to finally see a video on them!
My roommate has a Bandit 1200. Ask questions if you're interested!
Hey Yam: there is a camera on each side of your vehicle, a computer composites all the images together to give you a "top down" view. The image of your truck is just an image.
Harley did used to have small beginner bikes. There was the 250 Sprint which I think eventually might have become a 350? The dealership I used to go to for my parts for my 500 Triumph (fairly regularly) had Harley and Triumph. I think back then there was just the 250 Sprint, 900 Sportster, and 1200 Electraglide.
Hold up. There's a fanfic? This is my first time catching y'all's podcast, and you're reading a fanfic? This is great. Where's the videos of you reading the other 2 chapters? I gotta listen to those first.
More serious note. Good work. Love your videos. Recently found this channel and been enjoying all you videos.
Oh man you gotta find the episode where one of the memes sent in was a Ducati laughing like an Italian. I was crying
I only knew one answer because I had a first-year production Evolution Harley. It was a 1984 Wide Glide. The first run of this bike still had the old 4 speed transmission.
Marks ride was one for the ages.. such a come back
There was the Harley Sprint. My dad had one. He did some dirt biking on his. It was a 250.
What you guys were talking about was that electric bike (Damon?) that had a button for changing ergos
Pineapple is sweet, and the only way to counter sweet is with SPICY, baby! Throw some jalapenos on your pie and enjoy.
New tech will drive the sale of low-tech retros and 400-650 cc bare bones bikes. People want the “raw” feel.
We have electric power steering on quads, and it's great, but they aren't known for throwing tank slappers.
The number of things that could go wrong with power steering on a bike is pretty high. I wouldnt buy a bike with it.
@@ralphwarom2514
There is always someone says things like that for any new technology coming to motorcycles.
This tech exist in cars forever and never causes issues.
@@Fearless154 True. I just dont want to beta test the tech. Power steering simply magnifies your inputs. Getting it right for a motorcycle is no easy task.
We will see how they impliment it.
Activate that damn windows!! 🤣🤣🤣
Pineapple is the greatest pizza topping ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone know what other yamcasts have the trivia? Been watching through most the yamcasts but want to see the other trivias. Thank you!
I went through MSF at my local Harley dealer on one of these bikes.
Wait wait wait. Driving school in Brazil?!
Instead of the Buell Blast they should have designed a Suzuki Savage/S40 sized cruiser with the same engine, they would have sold a zillion of them but those were the old macho days when their 600 lb Sportster was considered a “girl” bike and nothing smaller than that could say Harley on it.
Yo Yam my boy, the Bronx was a test to see if Sportster S will be successful and if the market was there after the so-called fail of the street line and the V-Rod. Also according to Riding the Ozarks there is a patent for vin code for Harley state side with the 500 and the baby bike. I don't think the baby bike will make it but maybe the 500.
I'm sure when your doing 35min Motos at glen helen on a savage 70hp factory 450f against Ken Roczen and Eli Tomac these mini steering units probably come in super handy lmao
Leoncino trail has axially mounted calipers opposed to the street because the radials had too much bite for the offroad riding. Good on benelli for caring enough to realize these kinds of things. How do guys like the leoncino? Had mine for a few thousand miles, love it so far.
I try it on some long adventure. That a good bike
Australia with LAMS bikes - the Street 500 was the biggest selling bike in Australia - the Leoncino badged as Harley would be the gateway drug to Harley
I would love to see the Bronx in production. I heard the reason why it didn't make it to production because it would be overprice and cost more than a Ducati Monster.
Along with the 500 they have a 750 that I think is awesome.
Quick, nimble, comfortable on the highway.
I put it in near the top in the perfect city bike list.
650-900 have always been great bikes.
Cost effective, reliable, other than a few overgrown disasters over the years, the light on its feet get ya out of a sticky situation designs let your instincts do their job and avoid a lot of potential disasters.
The 250-500 basically fill the same niche but are so underpowered I cannot consider them reliable.
There are some exceptions of course but generally if you want a daily rider who's maintenance schedule consists primarily of oil changes and chain tension rather than overhauls and tightening bolts at a low enough cost to easily be replaced every 5-8 years the 650-900s are ideal.
While there are some 1100+- out there that can do the job, to me they are better for the long distance highway trips and no point racking up miles on something nice that cost a good deal when the city bikes cost so little.
Mostly a range of 5-10K new and 2-6k used but low miles. Once you pass 10K you really ought to plan on spend a lot more time and money for maintenance, customizing, and what have you.
Opinions and stuff
It's made by commies. It's junk.
That’s crazy they started with motocross for power steering- I thought the only way to reduce arm pump was from painting your finger nails 😂 who knows that movie?
Electric power steering could simplify or eliminate counter steering altogether. Ex: new rider doesnt know how to counter steer, with this system, he just turns the way he wants to go, bike countersteers and then straightens the wheel. All this while rider keeps the bar at one position.
It seems unlikely that they would use the technology to completely reverse the steering system of motorcycles! Thankfully, ha
@@TravisTerrell not completely reverse, just in the turn in. And obviously it would get used only in big CC touring bikes where you dont feel the road anyway.
@@TravisTerrell and woth gyroscopes and shit, it could make heavy touring bikes self balance in very slow speeds.
Pineapple is delicious on pizza. Fight me.
The tech that slipped your mind was Honda with clutch by wire.
The fan fic was legit painful except for Yammie being a girl, because in Texas he might as well be.

17:10 it looks like someone stenciled and spray painted the HD logo
Damn that HD500 looks lit af
Any device that interferes with direct tyre feedback is a very bad idea, NO !
As an australian, I wish they made a 650cc harley, because LAMS law is so stupid, second hand street 500's are worth more than brand new Vulcan S
U guys r getting the sportster evo mixed up with the actual evolution big twin that replaced the shovel head and was replaced by the twin cam
Just here for the fan fic
The thing looks like a shimmy dampener like that is mounted on a nose wheel of an aircraft.
Hmm the Rocket 3 is a seriously kool motorcycle but it can be had in the quarter mile, at least 2300cc version. The 2500cc version has better shifting and I have not run against one of those. On paper I should not be competitive but races are run in the track not paper.
Power steering is about as ridiculous as Honda's motorcycle air bag Lol Could you guys demonstrate how that air bag works :) hehehe
Harley Davidson used Ducati in the 1965 for there 250cc scrambler.
Do leoncino review yammm!!
A Chinese made motorcycle rebadged by Harley would never fly here...I heard they were for the Asian, European, and Latin American countries....I know they want to go by way of the water cooled....but why not take the 492cc they used in the Buell Blasts and slap it into a cruiser frame? And do the same to compliment the Pan America and provide an entry into the ADV market with that motor as well....The Blast motor at 34 HP and tons of torque....why not? They already have the tooling to do it.....I still have the 2000 Blast I learned on back in 2002, and I can't bring myself to part with it....it is a BLAST to ride once in a while on the twisty country roads where I live....
Yam! Got me some of the gear you tag below the vid and I’m loving it!
Since Yamaha is researching the power steering, maybe they are pursuing a permanent solution to the death wobble in the Bolt?
Wouldn't a monoshock in the back so just that?
Did everyone forget about the Harley street 500 it didn’t do well I believe
You were so close man, Marquez barely missed it by 5 places..
They already make a 500… how much smaller do you want?
Yammie Mole ...lol
The steering assist will make a big deal while riding with an unstable pillion rider.
Do you think with this steering assistant unit from Yamaha that there maybe a possibility of self driving motorcycles in development
I was thinking it might be incorporated into tcs/ stability control eventually
Mir or rins have been the most consistent. Both top 4 with no wins yet.
So... this is just a thought and correct me if this makes no sense, but do you guys think the power steering would have other functions than just easier turning? Like maybe to keep the forks steady in those instances where you goof and youre about to tank slap. Maybe it can take the place of a stabilizer while also assisting with cornering since its electeonic and would be computer monitored and regulated? Just talking outa my ass
Was thinking the same. It could very well replace a steering damper. Not sure bout the rest
So we're not going to talk about the new hornet teaser?
Didn't Buell come out with the not so fun Blast? Technically a HD engine. Or am I wrong?
Technically it was a Sportster motor cut in half hahaha
Yes. A 600 lb. lightweight Harley liter bike cruiser for beginners. With detuning and underrated HP to qualify it for beginners license.
Just kidding.
I want an 07-09 Softball Springer for a cruiser. Just discovered them.
How about a 250cc v twin for beginners? Didn’t they make a small bore Harley in the 50s or 60s
once electric power steering gets ridden in the rain and some water somehow gets into the electronics and makes it malfunction flipping a man on a twisty road the wrong way making him go air born in front of any car and dies is when that idea gets scrapped and shoved under the rug. also your fan fiction got me good a girl i like has the same name LMFAO
This tech exist in cars for ages and has been safe.
The power steering is not controlling itself and has the mind of it's own, ECU controls everything and if something eletronical goes wrong on your motorcycle it's just shuts down and throw error code at you.
It's not becoming skynet and getting self awareness.
By your logic every semi-active suspension and brakes assist goes wrong every time it rains and locks your brakes or goes while on the suspension and makes you airborne.
they are also partnered with Hero in India for small cc
I could see it could help on trike or bike with sidecar. Regular motorcycle shouldn't need it

You are all wrong on the non round headlight. The Harley MT500 was the first Harley to use a headlight that wasn't circular.
I highly doubt a Chinese Harley would sell well in the states.
Maybe its intended for the foreign market so more people can say "Hey look at me I have a harley, am I cool?😎"
Pilots had to trust the computer to keep a 1+ mach fighter capable 10G maneuvers. Death is very much a possibility even with ejection seats.
Unstable bikes, made stable by a "fly-by-wire" system, could be amazing. A bike that is more responsive than the most twitchy bike, and as stable as you like.
180mph on a bike with no windscreen would be insane
Harley bought MV Augusta and then sold them they missed their chance to build a bike worth a shit.
Finally? They made the 500 in like 2017-18.
