  • This is a video sample from the new Gracie-Narrated Live Sparring Video Library now available at www.gracieuniversity.com/Page.... In this incredible new library, we give you unprecedented access to the live sparring sessions at Gracie University Headquarters. In each video, you'll watch Ryron, Rener, or one of the other Gracie University instructors, sparring with partners of all shapes, sizes, and skill levels in gi and no-gi training sessions. You'll also see how the Gracies use targeted focus sparring exercises -- such as positional sparring, fight simulation, and handicap sparring (two people vs. one, one arm tied down, blindfolded, etc) -- to optimize technical master and reflex development. Best of all, every sparring match is fully narrated by Ryron or Rener Gracie! Not only will you be able to see how all the techniques should be applied in real time against resistant opponents, but you get to listen in and learn the exact thought process the Gracie Brothers use to make it all possible! The bottom line is that this video library will help you reach technical and mindset mastery faster than ever before, making it an essential growth tool in the arsenal of any dedicated Gracie Jiu-Jitsu student! These insightful videos can be viewed on any smartphone or mobile device but they can only be accessed through Gracie University. With new Gracie-Narrated sparring videos being uploaded every month, this is certainly one of the most important and entertaining video libraries every offered by the Gracie Brothers!

    Rener is amazing. removing the hands also takes a lot of weapons away from purple, he has less attacking options, and many bjj attacks use the threat of an attack on an arm to pass or setup another submission. I think purple did really well, Rener is a master.

  • @Coop772

    You know a defense system works when 50% of your defense limbs aren't functional and you still win. That was really fun to watch!

      This is rigged Bc
      It’s really not fair for the purple belt since he has 2 less limbs to submit… 😂😂🙏

      @@victorlee8418 It's not about submissions, it's about control. Reners control while not using his arms is superb.

    My instructor defended chokes from a purple belt with no hands. The purple belt in class said something like, once i get someones back i can choke them every time. The instructor let the purple belt take his back and without the use of his hands easily defended the purple belts chokes and continued to roll with the purple belt without the use of his hands like it was child's play. THe point of posting this it to help give Rener some credibility. The difference between a good black belt and a purple belt is huge.

    • @hzuiel
      @hzuiel 9 років тому

      Mmmmmm no, belts are not supposed to be given away in bjj. Purple belt's should have a minimum of 2 years of consistent training(possibly less if they train heavily), and demonstrate being adept at executing, understanding, and explaining a rather large list of techniques. Purple and brown belts teach classes sometimes, a purple belt is(supposed to be) an advanced student. This isn't karate or tae kwon do where there are 30 belts that mean nothing before you get to a belt that matters. Even a blue belt is a big accomplishment, and I would expect many blue belts to be capable of beating a black belt that has both hands tied.

      hzuiel So you believe the Gracies GAVE that guy a purple belt? Hmmm.

      Garrett Murphy You are supposed to earn belts, not have them given to you.

    • @garbarrage
      @garbarrage 9 років тому +1

      hzuiel yes. I get that. What I'm asking, is if you believe that Rener Gracie (from a school with such a reputation and tradition) was mistaken in giving this guy a purple belt? That's a pretty big assertion.
      The purple belt was grappling a guy with no hands. He could afford to sacrifice certain positions that would look like basic mistakes.

    This is the purp belt from the video. I'm glad you guys are enjoying it (or hating it) either way, just enjoy jiu jitsu. Its not always a competition, and at the same time its not always just a game, but I encourage you to go try fighting an opponent who ties both their hands. This drill helps both of us. Its a different body type to fight. Like i said though, just enjoy jiu jitsu and things you can do with it. Come to the academy and lets roll, its all good

      That would definitely be interesting. I studied Wing Chun kung fu for a few years and they have a blindfold exercise called Chi Sao. After doing it for years you really sensitize your arm movements to the slightest touch. I’ve always thought Gracie Jiu Jitsu would benefit from such an exercise. I would love to see that here. 👍

    I am an admirer of the work of this young man and his brother. with respect to the opponent with both hands tied purple belt of the boy could not try to pass guard up. he would have to go quietly killing one leg aiming to win the first half guard. dai he worked to pass for 100 kilos with pressure. the goal is to seek the neck. not to enter it in the Darce because the armpit is blocked because of the hands tied on track. but still does not take away the merit and all the spectacular ability mr. Rener Gracie. lots of nice challenge

I noticed hes kind of over-energetic (i am too) but he carries it so well. hes not nervous or hurried, just very energetic. He explains things very well. Don't put too much importance on belt ranking. If you train or compete you should understand that part for sure.

    Great point. If you're Rener, all you are worried about is foot/leg attacks and collar chokes. So he is 100% concerned about that. He also is quite tall and has good reach. So all he has to do is keep his neck away from my hands. Also keep in mind, I have no way of holding down his upper body. Underhooks. Arm drags. Etc. so I have to get past his monster feet that he is protecting. And I can't get his neck cause he knows that it's what I want. I'll answer any questions if that wasn't enough

    I hate when people bad talk bjj cuz this is awesome. this is why it takes 7+ years to get a black belt. The amazing things the brazillians have done with the art of jiu jitsu is so cool to see and learn. this is why when a judo black belt or a japanese jiu jitsu black belt goes against a bjj black belt they often are out matched. Not because the bjj guy has so much more experience but because he knows so may more movements and variations.

    View of someone who knows a little bit of bjj: YOU ARE AMAZING!
    View of someone who rly knows bjj: Since you have ur hands tied together he cant use any kind of armchockes, triangles, crucifixes, kimuras, americana, etc. Since he's only a purple belt he wont be allowed to use any kind of legchockes on you (you have to be brown belt, or higher to be allowed to use them), the' re only a few options for him, most of them consist in going for ur neck, as a black belt u wont let him get ur neck + he's not fighting full, otherwise he's not worthy of having the purple belt, the skills he showed r max wothy of a newbie blue belt. Nethertheless you did a great job!
