    the fact that he's more worried about his gi than the fight is why these guys are on another level.

    If it was was no gi, MMA, he had a gun, a knife, blah, blah, blah. The dude didn’t have to fight. He knew the deal going in.

      Exactly, the gi is just as much a handycap for Rener as it is an enabler….Miller could have used it against Rener, but Rener is just another level.

    Interesting to see how Rener wears his opponets energy down exhausting them, then taking advantage of that low energy.

    I can't believe Jason didn't feel Renier wrapping his gi around his neck! He had that gi on the back of his neck for a long time and Jason didn't do anything to stop it.

      I'm sure he felt it, but it looks like Rener was doing a good job controlling Jason's posture using said lapel behind his neck..

      He tried to stop it, but Rener has more experience countering those defenses. You’d have to do BJJ to understand

    Jason had no useful response to Renner's guard. This match would have ended totally differently if Renner hadn't had his gi, but regardless, Jason had no useful response to Renner's guard.

      It wouldn't have ended differently at all. Rener is taller, longer limbs and has about a decade more grappling experience.

    Gracie fashion, placing the odds in their favor just like they set up the initial UFC events. He should’ve grappled nogi, that would have actually been impressive. Take someone else’s tools away and give yourself an advantage, you should win.

      Tu racontes n'importe quoi. Le fait de porter le GI était plutôt un désavantage pour Rener parce que l'autre pouvait l'attraper comme il voulait.

      Doesn't matter. If there are no strikes allowed either Rener or Ryron will toy with Mayhem, then and now, with a gi or no-gi. Different story in a cage with NHB rules, of course.

    • @tjl4688
      @tjl4688 9 місяців тому +2

      Everyone knew the rules. Gis were optional.
      Gi chokes were available for Mayhem as well, and Rener's clothing was available for Mayhem to use against him.
      Wearing the gi is actually a handicap for Rener. The gi makes it easier for Mayhem to hold on to Rener, but Rener has to use his gi to hold Mayhem, because he is extremely slippery.

      I am not so sure about that. He matches up well with some people, but it seems Gordon Ryan has the ideal physique for the sport. Also, it's interesting what would have happened if Rener didn't wear a gi. He most likely would have won anyway, because he's exceptionally good, but there's definitely some advantages, including that there's less slippage with a gi and you can use parts of your gi for all sorts of chokes and holds.
