Can you tell me what kind of copypaper you use, mine starts to break down when I'm submerging it..
My type writer paper breaks up but artist paper doesn't. I don't submerge the type writer paper I squeeze the tea bag over it which works great.

I do mine in 45-min to 1 hour from start to finish- done n dried. An hour (about as many or more pages). I don’t have three days to dye paper 🤦🏻♀️

I came here to say this very thing! 😂 Natasha, you're my kind of woman. When my daughter was 16 she asked me "mammy, do we have an ironing board?" and I replied "Yes, it's the digital piano stand that you practiced piano on for 4 years!" She had seen me use many tools over the years but an iron wasn't one of them.😂 I'm new to journalling and your tutorials are great. I've been using tea and coffee to stain new wood in household projects for years but as I move to paper crafts it's great to learn from paper masters such as yourself. I did a small first batch blind without all of the logistics figured out in advance (drying space in particular). Also, as I used an older roasting tin, the solution became grayer as it began to oxidize with the surface of the metal, delivering a gray/green hue that I didn't care for. Second time I used a newer tin with better results. Fantastic to see your process in particular to see that sheets can be par dried in small bundles and separated midway through. Your channel is great for 'keeping it real' compared to some creators that have studios as big as a small house. Once again, thank-you for sharing your talent. You set a high bar for us newbies but it's great to have a quality standard to aim for. 🙏
I'd like to see a whole series of just dying papers with different methods. Fascinating.

Since I don't have anything like your lacey tablecloth, I tried adding stencils on top of my wet/dyed papers, and it works beautifully. And it allows me to use all those stencils I've bought and made over the years and years!!! Great ideas in the vid! TFS!!!❤❤❤

Thank you for this very helpful tutorial. You are the only one I’ve seen who uses “baking soda” though and it makes perfect sense! I also hadn’t thought of using a vinyl tablecloth to lay out my papers to dry. This tutorial was loaded with “tips and tricks” thank you for sharing!

I would guess same as teabags except use an Easter egg dye tablet. She probably leaves out the Vinegar due to ph levels.

Thanks for all the tips and tricks. I've also used the liquid from pickled beets for a pretty pink and I sometimes add a little balsamic vinegar to my tea or onion mix for a darker effect.

Doesn't the Vinegar make the solution overly acidic?
I haven't had any problem with doing that; I just use about a tablespoon to a quart and a half of my mix.
I tried doing this with some fruit tea bags. The water from them was a glorious dark pink so I thought I'd get some fabulous results from that. However, the colour seemed to oxidise in the air and all the paper came out grey! Not really a problem as they are lovely, but very unexpected. If you see my previous comment about drying the teabags on watercolour paper to make stains, I did this with the fruit tea bags and got gorgeous grey stains which I then doodled over in black. I am absolutely thrilled with the result of these! The actual teabags did stay pink and once I'd taken out the tea, I ended up with some nice pink teabag paper to use in projects.

Awesome information - thank you. I would love to see the onion dying process. We use a lot of shallots so I think those skins would give a lovely purple hue to the solution. Your drying process is perfect; I have to use my oven to since I can't even imagine the havoc my cat would wreak on a floor full of paper! LOL

I use: coffee, black tea, green tea... and agree, time give different shade...
other what use for experiment is: ground cinnamon, ground turmeric, ground smoked paprika, balsamic vinegar, vanilla essence.... cocoa powder........all of them mixed with hot water.... all give me more or less colors.......same with smell like balsamic or vanilla or cinnamon= love it so delicate......paprika or turmeric very interesting raw smell and pale color.... cocoa give dark brown color much darker like even strong coffee and smell like chocolate, I love this smell......... not satisfaction for me with avocado, but my be use wrong color of skin, have green, probably better is use dark, purpule skin, I do................... great success with water after cook red beetroots, amazing dark red color.........and depends on time have from "burgundy" to pale pink paper........ I LOVE THIS COLOR from beetroots.........................now I collect onion skin and think about red cabbage.....and I'm stack how make any kind of greenish??? ..........

Thank you for answering the questions I wanted to ask :) Would love to see how to dye the purple ones. Usually I use coffee (love the smell...and taste) and hibiscus tea: the tea turns pink and the flowers turn the paper blue afterwards. Love the effect.

They all turned out beautiful! ❤ I started using beetroot juice from precooked beetroots. That makes a very pretty pink colour. I started collecting the juice in the freezer.
I used beet juice also but it seemed to soften my paper. Maybe heavier paper would be better. I still used them all though. I love the rosey color.

My favorite was using the plastic tablecloth. And as others have mentioned, dying using onion skins and one using avocado dying. 🙂
YES! I would like to see the onion dye, avocado dye and whatever else! I understand the egg color dye. One time I used "old" but not moldy, raspberries and it came out so pretty! Just mashed them up. I had given no thought to the acidity in tea, so THANK you for that tip. Thank you!😀😁

I love the idea of using the coloring pages, those are very neat looking dyed. The onion color and the avocado dye are also my favorites. I would love to see how you do the onion skin dye. Thank you for sharing. I use coffee a lot to dye paper, but I didn't know about the baking soda to alkaline it. That is great to know. You can also use distress ink colors to make many colors of dyed papers. So much fun to do.
I am now going to search op shops for a plastic doily table runner! Fab video, I really enjoyed watching the process. I do exactly the same so the validation felt good!

Your papers are gorgeous, I have never dyed paper before but I am tempted! I love the blotchy ones and the ones dried on the plastic table runner but, they all would be lovely to have! Thank you for a very informative video. I have coffee dyed papers several times. Have been experimenting with other types of flavored teas and got one that the papers are a gray blue color. Thank you for the tip on the PH balance, I will remember to do that from now on. I would greatly enjoy videos on all types of dying to get other colors. One thing I also do when dying papers is to dye laces, fabrics, linens and cheesecloth so have some of those to use also. Love how your papers came out.

Why does that acidity matter?
@@Mary-em5yi Because over time, acidity will eat through whatever material it is - which is why a lot of "archival" things also say "acid free" - like photo paper, inks, materials, etc.

I would love to see how you use avocado to achieve the pink color. I tried with berry fruit tea but the papers were turning blue as they dried.

@@heymudda1 I used Teekanne forest fruits ( mixture of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and strawberries) Tea is dark red but the paper turns purplish blue. Another time, I used dried Aronia fruit(chokeberries), boiled them for a while to extract color. Paper turned grayish blue that time.

I have sprayed on color with ink and water but I haven't tried coffee or tea because I don't have much space. But you have given me a lot to think about. Would love to see the onion skins... and maybe the different colors too.

Thx a lot Beetroot cooking water is nice too. And Rusty metal parts can usually be obtained free of charge from any building site 2 days in water gives great colours

great papers. I dye several times in the summer using eco style and regular teas and food color dyes in sprayer bottles. Simply love the process.
The “neutral” “acidic” and “alcaline” really confused me, could you explain more about the importance of it? Thank you! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I explained everything in the video, but here goes again. Ph level measures alkalinity versus acidity. Water is neutral. Bleach is highly alkaline, coffee is acid. Paper is also already slightly acid. When you add tea or coffee to paper, you make it very acid. Acidity eats through any writing on the page and especially if you place photograps into a journal that has very acidic paper. It takes years for this to happen, and for the writing and photographs to fade, hence why people don't worry about it too much. That is also why a lot of scrapbooking products and paper state "archival" paper, meaning its not acid, it will not fade your photographs. So, adding soda bicarb, which is alkaline, it neutralizes the acid and brings the solution to neutral. I hope this helps

I loooove all of them really 😍I’m new to junk journaling but am totally in love with the whole thing because I also love to write a lot. One day a few months ago I decided to organize all our family memories throughout the years and that’s how this idea came about. I’m making junk journals for my children who are adults and about to have their own kids 😃 I would like to share one tip that I discovered by coincidence. I spray dye my paper also with tea and coffee solution in a spray bottle for ease , then I pop them in the over on an old iron pizza tray . The rust from the tray gave a most fantastic gray blue blotches at the places where the sheet of paper touched the metal. But I dry them 2 at a time on very low heat. Please let me know if you try it😊 as alway thank you for your perfectly wonderful videos😊❤💐❤😊
