As a child, and again later as a teacher, I did the crayon shavings between layers of waxed paper to make "stained glass" ornaments. We also would preserve pretty leaves in the fall. I had forgotten about that until your video. Now I want to try your ideas with cereal bags. I wonder how pressed flowers would do? So many options! Thank you!

Love your ideas Natasha. I have also done the crayon shavings using waxed paper. Then if you really want to use up all your paper scraps instead of throwing them away. Cut your paper scraps into thin strips (or use a paper shredder) then cut the strips into small confetti size pieces and sprinkle these between the cereal bags or waxed paper, with or without crayon shavings. Can again be used for window ornaments, journal covers or any of Natasha's ideas. Lots of fun everywhere. :D

We used to iron autumn leaves between sheets of waxed paper and then tape them to the window with black electrical tape to make "stained-glass" window art. It's very much the same starting point but you took in a bit of a different direction. Very nice.

I think the tags would be a perfect size for a gardener to make pouches for seed saving. You could use the package the seeds came in to fuse between the cereal bags. I save seeds from my flowers and vegetables every year. This would be a nice and neat way to store them. This looks like a very fun project. Thank you.

Girl, I can't even choose just one to do first!!! I love all your videos and how you teach us that we don't need the fancy stuff to create such beauties! I am a shut-in and cannot do a whole lot outside my small apartment. But your videos teach me so many beautiful things to make with stuff around my home - LITERALLY! I absolutely LOVE this project and can't wait for the morning so I can start! I too love crinkly paper and plastics and it's a very satisfying thing! Thank you so very much for your many wonderful projects. I plan to make them all! P.S. - I really enjoyed your "getting to know me" video and can honestly say I love paper cuz it evokes so many wonderful childhood memories. God bless and keep posting videos!

You can also fuse paper or fabric together using shopping bags in the middle. Cut bags to fit, but bear in mind that they may shrink if you get the iron too hot for the plastic bags.

  • @StudioTinidril
    @StudioTinidril 3 роки тому +51

Fabulous idea! And I love it! Of course, different plastics melt and deform in different ways. I had some vinyl sheeting, and some other kind of plastic sheets or rolls and I did some experimenting with them. One of them kind of did what the cereal bags do: it shrunk as I used the iron over it, but more severely... when it cooled it had a wonderfully organic pattern of puckering that made a great texture stamp that I used in acrylic painting! Even the less extreme bubbling of these bags would make a great texture stamp. There are so many good ways to reuse plastic, we really need to do what you did and make something new, fun, functional, and beautiful out of what is otherwise trash. Great ideas!!

@@BonesAndButtons I looked up the name of the type of plastic used in cereal bags: "Most cereal bags are made with high density polyethylene, also known as HDPE or by the recycling number 2. Known as “film” in the recycling industry, this type of plastic can be remanufactured back into plastic bags." (from a recycling website). You can use this information to help find this in rolls or sheets and know that it can be useful in this application!

Natasha, I love that you love the process of creating so much and that some of your most favorite experiences are not even the ones that result in something “beautiful”….I attribute this to the fact that when you are willing to push beyond creating only to fulfill narrow expectations of “beauty” (whatever that means, it’s so relative), you are creating new neuropathways in your brain that only serve to increase your creative potential. Maybe the end result isn’t a knock-out beauty but what you learned about the technique or the behavior of your materials (or any number of other realizations that can happen while creating) could be a lifelong blessing to your crafting-and even your life in general-or maybe they will LEAD to something else that is! That’s the beautiful thing about the PROCESS, independent of the OUTCOME. I love to see you follow your bliss and your intuition during your creative process-it’s very inspiring!

Glue paper on the back of the tags.
The random shaped ones could just be cover decorations.
If the napkins don't face the right way to make a journal cover, just cut into 4 squares and lay two side by side facing the right way and fuse, as if they are one piece.
Any paper image can be sandwiched, even thin fabrics.
Good fun and love the crinkle sound and crinkled look. 😘

Awesome tutorial, as usual, thank you for the ideas! I have found it helps if you turn the sandwiched materials over once the top has fused. That way the bottom will fuse with out having to turn the heat up on the iron. Your videos always give me lots of inspiration, much appreciated 🙂

What fun inspiration! I like the crinkle sound & up cycling too! When you held up the little rectangle & asked for ideas…. The first thing that popped into my head was page tabs that you could touch/crinkle & you punch a small hole and add a dangle charm! This is going to be fun experimenting with! Thanks 😊

I love the cereal bags especially the noise I do like that crunchy sound as you said. I think up-cycling makes it all that more beautiful. I try to be environmentally conscious and rally my 10 year old twins around into projects that are that way as well. I think if we all just at least did something it would together make a lot! 😊

what a fun project! When the top fuses and the bottom doesn't, couldn't you just flip the whole thing over (like grab the bottom parchment/cooking paper and bring it to the top)and then you could leave the iron on medium instead of high heat and a chance of scorching.

I think this is a very beautiful and unique idea. Like you I especially liked that last little Journal that you made. What wonderful gift some of these things would be. The pretty envelopes would make very nice packaging for small gifts for birthdays and so forth. I also think that if you had napkins that were meant for baby showers they would make adorable adorable journals for a new baby gift our baby shower gifts. I always look forward to your videos because you are so creative and inventive with recycling which is my number one reason for doing junk journals

For the tags you're not happy with, what about sewing a pocket onto them (maybe out of acetate, your cereal bag off-cuts or something more or less transparent)? Then a small card (for a gift) or a journal card could be tucked in. As a gift tag, they are reusable...just remove the little card and tuck in a new one. This tag could end up travelling far away! I like this cereal bag project. As always, you are clever and your work is elegant. ❤

This is such a neat idea. I've seen Shannon Green do that years ago! I have forgotten about using wax paper. I hardly ever buy cereal anymore but if I could use waxed paper, that would be great. The little small leftover pieces could be stamped on with Staz On Ink and then glued or sewn to the cover of the journal or a card. I love the crinkly sound of it!

Wax paper is the same ;) we don’t have any food in boxes with bags either, we are keto here for 4 years so no prepackaged foods so wax paper it is.....I just got it from the dollar store to keep it cheap. Or if you have family or friends that can help out. I’ve asked some but they keep throwing them out, they truly think it’s just garbage even though I ask haha.
