Great video! The jam looks amazing, and it brought back fond memories of my Mom making it back in the day. If we were really lucky there was fresh homemade bread to put it on. I don’t remember her using a dab of butter to make skimming easier. She just did it the way Grandma did. We used to love listening for the pops when they came out of the kettle. It was like a game for us. I have never made jam myself, but this looks easier than I remembers, and we love strawberries here, so I might give it a go. I grew up in Iowa and there were several farmer’s markets every summer that we went to when the kids were small. Thanks so much for bringing back some fun memories.
LOVE LOVE love hearing about your memories. Thanks so much for sharing. Do you think she used pectin in hers? You should definitely try it. Very easy. So glad you took time to tell us your story. ENJOYED!! 😊
She did use pectin in hers. There was a version using jello instead of pectin I think, but none of the moms in our neighborhood tried that. The jello version was popular off and on. I’ve heard of adding apples to jellies to replace pectin, but I don’t know how many would be required, or if it was just apple juice, and I don’t know if it works for jams. Sorry I can’t be more helpful and less vague. I suppose it’s somewhere on the internet though, like everything else!
@@ASimpleLifewithChrisTara yes, we grow our own mulberries and strawberries… Mulberries are one of my favorite fruits. Personally, I think they are sweeter than blackberries. Easy to grow. You could also consider the dwarf mulberry trees if you want something more manageable in less space.
You inspired me to make a batch for the first time yesterday! Now I’m not sure if I want to try yours or mine first😂 I’ll be sure Ben brings Chris a jar on Tuesday!
Yes!!! Please send one. Can't wait to try it. Did you make yours with pectin? Really wanting a recipe where we make without pectin and less sugar. You'll have to let us know if you liked it. 👍
@@ASimpleLifewithChrisTara I did use pectin this go around. I followed the low sugar Sure Jell recipe. I’d also like to make some without using pectin!
@@ASimpleLifewithChrisTara the one I just used had pectin, I'm gonna look to see if I have one without. I'm also thinking of making a strawberry rhubarb jam, my husband likes rhubarb. I do have the stuff for making a grape jam as well, I should be busy.
The pad or 1 treaspoon of butter you add doesn’t change the flavor and it will still leave some foam that needs taken off so you can use it or you don’t need too much
I'm not quite sure exactly what you mean, but if your frozen strawberries are a smooth consistency, then so should your jam be.....and vise versa. Hope that helped. Thanks so much for watching.
That is a good question. I have never made jam from frozen berries before. I know you can but I don't want to give you wrong info....so your best bet would be to search from videos where the jam is made from frozen berries. Good luck....I'm sure it will turn out great.
I can’t imagine that the taste of butter in jam would be a negative, since I eat my jam with butter on bread anyway. HOWEVER, I know many people with food allergies and intolerances, myself included, and until I started making jam, it never occurred to me that jam might include a dairy ingredient. I would leave it out for that reason, so no unsuspecting people have a bad reaction. Even though it’s such a small amount, some allergies are serious and don’t take much exposure.
You don't want them to organize your pantry - lol ... they could call an emergency & deem it so bad that elections would need to be cancelled... Your understanding is the same as mine here in Canada... I do my own thinking ☺
Thats a ridiculous amount of sugar Im gonna look for a different recipie I am trying to stay away from sugar That is why I want to make homemade. I do not want that much sugar in my jelly that is ridiculous thank you though
Thanks for watching. Yes... lots of sugar, but with this pectin, you have to use the correct amount of sugar for it to come out correctly. They do make low sugar pectin and no sugar recipes. Hope you have good luck.
I used butter. Just 1/2 tsp. The foam went right down, and it tasted SO good. Didn’t alter the taste much
Good to know. Thank you for sharing. Hope you have a blessed day.

The second I saw soap........I was done lol.
Castile soap is a great way to clean any pesticides or residue from fresh fruits and vegetables.
