I’ve been feeding my 13 year old for about 5 years a v-dog vegan dog food which I supplement with cooked sweet potatoes and various other veggies. Recently she had her teeth cleaned and so the vet did her bloodwork and commented on great her bloodwork was for a dog her age. Many people comment that they also think she is younger than she really is.
I fed v-dog for quite a while too. Although I also added some cooked meat and fish to her diet too. The main reason I got V-dog was because my dog has so many allergy issues, and I also do not trust the quality of meat being used in kibbles. So she ate it as the base of her food and I’d just add on some human grade meat for animal protein.
She was very healthy on it, the only reason I stopped feeding it was that the kibble was different last time I received it and she didn’t want to eat it. (It seemed drier and lighter than normal, although V-dog told me they didn’t change the recipe or anything. Maybe just a weird batch). Maybe I’ll give it another shot.
@@violetblythe6912 I feed raw meat. They don’t cook their food or process it. It is less expensive
Been feeding my 10 year old dog vegan since vet told me i should say goodbye, he suddenly doesn't need his heart meds, he suddenly doesn't has bad liver/kidney conditions and oh suprise his bloodwork looks completely normal now stated my new vet. Nothing to add.
What do you feed him?
Also hawthorn helps heart issues a lot. You’re a good doggo mom edit: milk thistle drops for kidney/liver. Both 1 drop per lb if I remember.
@@lauriehug7370 there’s kibble called Wysong that’s vegan and it’s for both cats and dogs. Natural Balance vegan canned and dry food is another option. But there are many brands out there, but only these have worked for my pets.
Thank you so much....your comment is a proof to start my pet with more plant based foods
What food brand do you get ur dog??
My dog has a liver shunt (or possibly microvascular dysplasia), and almost died. He's been vegan for 7 or 8 years now, and is doing AMAZING!LY WELL!! We use Natural Balance wet and dry. Love and appreciate your channel, Dr.!
Wonderful! 🌱 I fed my dogs that one as well before switching to Halo and V-Dog. 😸
I appreciate your channel so much! My best friend Tank died a month ago.. I’m heartbroken and it’s hard to keep seeing these videos pop up in my YT feed.. but thank you for being such a caring physician, all animals everywhere appreciate you 🙏🏻🙏🏻
It's an honor for us, to walk our pets through age and death.
And, yes, it's heartbreaking.
Hug you
RIP Tank.
So very sorry for your loss. Prayers 🙏 💜 🙏
Tank will find you again! Look for the signs💚💚💚
Mine passed away 3 weeks ago. She was 16. I feel your pain. 😔
I switched to vegan dog food when my little bichonpoo's became miserable with his itchiness. He was put on apoquel for a couple of years and it stopped working. Then I researched apoquel and how bad those drugs were. I found vegan dog food. At first I did home made but that didn't stop his itchiness either. Finally a dog kibble was perfect for him. It's been several years now and he's doing great. He does get flare up once in a while but nothing like how it used to be. Even the red staining around his eyes and mouth cleared up. He's almost 13 and still as active as ever.
In April we put down our Minpin mix, Bella, at the age of 17. She was on a vegan diet for about the last 4 years of her life. My only regret is not having started the vegan diet sooner.
My condolences. My dog's name is Bella, she's 5 and I am about to switch us over. Thank you for sharing!
Hello can you share what brand vegan dog food or wet food ? Or vegan homemade?
@@Thaojennyduong we have tried several different brands throughout the years, (wild earth, Vdog, Halo, Natural Balance).
Waited so long for you to do this!!!!!thank you, thank you xxxx my collies doing really well in a vegan diet, but sad to see you just illustrating that with kale. There are so many vets now advocating a Nutricious, balanced vegan food. Check out those in the uk, such as just be kind. Perhaps then another video, a bit more balanced would be better.... Also Prof. Andrew Knight, sustainable dog food.... Not to mention longest living dog, plant based, Bramble...my collies mobility, alertness, coat, so much better on vegan.
I have 2 collies. What do you feed them, please?
@@lauriehug7370 I feed mostly home cooked, along with "Fleetful". In the uk there is a growing choice now of both vegan kibble and tinned, even frozen vegan dog food Sent to your door. At the "just be kind" website, its an info site on vegan dog nutrition and what vegan dog foods are available to buy, both UK and European. Theres research on this, together with info on the dog comes from wolf argument and on important issues like vit d, taurine, omega balancing. . The home made recipes I use are from the site. I do have to back up these goods though by following the advice re vitamins and balancing omegas. Some manufactured vegan dog food don't contain vital components like the taurine, may not have spelt that right. It's so important and your dog can get sick if it's not there.. .. Arielle, the vet who runs the site, writes on this and on suggestions as to food and supplements generally but also suggestions for conditions like mobility. There are home recipes that are you can use to home cook. I use probiotic , algae oil for omegas as well as rotating sunflower, oil, 100 per cent peanut butter., sesame oil, use just be kinds vitamin mix. Fleetful is a dried hemp, chick pea mix. There's lots of suggestions on the just be kind site. If you can't access that as it's a UK site I can send you a link to the Facebook vegan dogs page, There's a book on bramble on amazon if you can still get it, again that's packed with recipes and brambles owner is on the fb page. , home recipe I do is wild and normal rice, soaked quinoa, carrots, sweet potato, a few greens like peas, a little kale sometimes. Or brocoli , green beans. You can add in butter beans or chick peas, courgettes. All finely chopped, cooked in plain water, once cooked I add oats and sometimes some pureed pumpin. Mash or blend. .for treats Richmond vegan sausage sometimes, you can also add in a little apple, blue berries. I add to the vit mix from just be kind with mashed banana, sunflower oil and peanut butter and spread it as a topping to Fleetful or home cooked. I use different vegan dog kibble,Are you in the uk? Amounts are important for the carb, protein, and veg.
@@sunflowers2682That was very thorough... Thanks!
What's the name of the fb group please? 💙🙌🏾
We feed our dogs a vegan kibble mixed with vegetables and a very small amount of canned chicken or beef. They seem to do well with it! One other thing that may affect allergies or disease is the ever increasing amount of vaccines that are given to dogs, along with harmful flea/tick drugs.
:)
Agreed! 💜
Try all natural Diatomaceous Earth for fleas and ticks. It works a treat on my two.
Which kibble do you buy?
Kevin Reiser V-Dog!
I went vegan some years ago and started researching how to feed my animals vegan in a healthy way. I saw there is no way my cats can change but my research showed vegan food for dogs is actually very good...and i had a vet mention she switched her dog to a vegan diet due to health issues. I still wasn't sure though so started feeding him vegan kibble with a meat topping...thinking it's a good balance...I've always worried if it was the best choice...he's 17 and so its hard to tell if it made a difference as he's got various old age issues...i'm SO glad to see this video from my most trusted vet :) It's true he'd eat chicken all day if he could but...I'd eat ice cream lol - so just bcs their fav food is meat, doesn't mean its what they NEED. I admire and value Dr Jones so much
It sounds like you are still not sure whether the vegan food is right for your dog. He is still alive at 17 years, although with health issues, but isn't his age a proof that you have fed the right food? I find it very encouraging because I am also a bit insecure at times whether I am doing the right thing feeding my dog vegetarian food.
What breed of doggie are they? x
@@ashapuri3114 yes I'm unsure bcs of all the varying opinions out there...he's still going strong (as can be) today...I can tell in his poop especially...when he's had too much meat he turds are too hard and he doesnt' have an easy time...i agree on that should be proof but who knows considering i've been giving him probiotics, omega 3, eggs, cocounut oil, moringa powder, cbd and other "natural" things throughout his life. but i can tell you his poop tells me a lot...he's a mutt...mostly looks like a german wirehaired pointer but is a mix of pit bull, lab and german wirehaired pointer. my previous dog pearl (pit bull) lived till she was 17 though she didn't age as well and she was not on the same food blend...i think in the end it's about the quality of food regardless...that said all my future doggos will be on a blend of vegan/veg and meat :)
@@oscarcat1231 ps he eats vdog kibble...not the cheapest but worth it...he's a mutt...mostly looks like a german wirehaired pointer but is a mix of pit bull, lab and german wirehaired pointer
I'd like to see a study comparing a homemade cooked diet (such as the one you've posted here and I've started using - 50% animal protein/25%carbs/25%veggies plus eggshells, fish oil, flax) to an all vegan whole food diet. Of course super processed food made from low quality ingredients causes chronic disease and conditions - same in any body including humans. Are the vegan dogs here eating highly processed vegan kibbles? Or is commercial vegan dog food less processed/higher quality than animal protein commercial dog food? Is the animal protein the problem, or is the problem the low quality ingredients plus the processing into kibble? I'd love to see that research done. In the meantime, I'm cooking from the recipe you posted here, my dog loves it much more than kibble, and seems to be thriving, less itchy, shinier coat, etc. Thank you for your work here - I'm glad I found you. The lack of consensus about how to feed dogs is overwhelming, and you share what feels to me like science and common sense based information in a simple way. (I'm vegan myself and feel so much better since I switched away from animal foods!)
Hi there, I wonder about vegan kibble too. However I do read comments from people saying their dogs are healthy on it. Do you feed that recipe all the time?
I have had a couple of dogs that LOVED fruit and veggies and was the main component of their diets. One got Cushing's and Kidney failure, but she lived to 13, as did the other dog. This was 40 years ago when dogs lived longer and healthier. I'm devastated at the rate of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes today in our pets. Just because your dog LOVES kibble does not mean that it is good for them. Consider the chemicals they add to enhance and addict. It's racket and it's killing our pets.
Agree, but if you're a senior one can't always afford to buy special diets for our dogs. I look at it this way; if one rescues a dog & it lives 10-12 healthy years it's a gift to owner & pet. Better then living in a shelter for years!!
@@bernadetteholmes6160 I agree. We can't force people with shallow pockets to buy healthier options. Heck, even humans who are on a budget have a hard time buying those healthier options, although it is more doable for humans like eating cheaper fruits and veggies and even meat.
Absolutely! My dogs eat a good amount of fruits and veggies along with V-Dog food and Halo (wet and dry) with dog oatmeal’s and liquid vitamins. Factory farm or as I call it - the Animal Agritorture industry 🤢 is definitely killing our cats and dogs with causing cancer and ilnessss! Another major issue is what they sniff, lick and step on everytime they go for walks, because people and cities spray pesticides everywhere, and weedkillers, etc. not to mention the fact that car oil and other car chemicals are all over every inch of streets. Not even park paths are safe from car oil and other chemicals because maintenance crews drive over those too in order to haul supplies and work faster. It’s unavoidable. So I make sure to wash my dog’s paws off with the hose and dog shampoo in the yard as soon as we arrive home, or if too cold outside I wipe with dog wipes or a pawwasher, then wash their paws in the shower quickly or with a container of water not used for drinking. This way I get as much toxic chemicals off as possible before they lick their paws. Oh and I only use safer cleaning chemicals around the house. Mostly a mix of vinegar, lemon juice, and water for mopping, counters, kennel cleaning, etc. I walk my dogs everyday so I often think about the fact that the hundreds of vehicles passing by us has to be harming them even more than us humans. That is sadly avoidable, but it does help to drive to the park (I know that is contributing 😌) and walk around the paths where you’re not nearly as close to the streets. That and I take them on hikes as often as I possible where there is no inhaling car exhaust!
Finally!!! Thank you for clarifying this Dr. Andrew's!!! I've been beating myself up about this wondering if I've been doing right by my fur-son. This really helps!!! Like always I appreciate all your advice and holistic remedies!! ❤️❤️🐕🐕🐕
Hello!!!! Im a new subscriber and I am sooo glad I found your channel. I am a pet mama of two English bulldogs and as you know they are prone to health issues. My one little girl was miserable with skin allergies and I researched diets and food allergies and started making my own recipe for her food. She is thriving, and so is my boy, Jiggy. I have had bulldogs in the past and they have never had store bought food or treats. I've made diets that are specific to their needs. My one little girl, Sassy, was two months shy of her 15th birthday when she passed naturally in her sleep. My first boy, King, lived to be almost 12 so there is definitely something to be said for using common sense in the treatment of your fur babies. Thank you for all you do to educate us.
Hi there, what type of dog was your beloved dog King?
@@oscarcat1231 He was an English Bulldog. I have had five English bulldogs so far and love the breed, even with their breed specific issues.
My dog's diet... (my dogs live to 18 years and beyond)
One of my recipes:
1) In a large electric roasting
pan...
10 lbs raw chicken
3 lbs broccoli
3 lbs sweet potatoes
3 lbs varied greens
3 cups water
Cook at 140 degrees for 8-10 hours or overnight.
Allow to cool down.
2) Mash up mixture utilizing all liquid according to your dogs bite size.
3) fold in 10 raw organic eggs.
4) add one LEVEL TABLESPOON of each of the following:
Acetyl cartinine
MSM
L-methionine
Taurine
Horsetail herb
Ashwahganda
Astragulus
5) 1/4 cup of the following:
Chia seeds
Salmon or Krill oil
Moringa Oleifera
Mix all ingredients well.
Store in freezer.
Note: never combine fruit with meat due to difference in digestion time can cause stomach upset and vomiting. Fruits can be used as treats in between meals, but not near feeding time.
*** Make sure you begin with fresh raw ingredients. Canned goods have high sodium and a plethora of preservatives including nitrates and possible bpa from the can's lining.
Thank you for the recipe. I will probably try bison instead of the chicken since my dog is def. allergic to chicken. My vet said to try novel proteins, bison being one of them. She still might be allergic to it as well.
@@luloops if you need a vegan protein, hemp heart seeds have 30 g of protein per tablespoon.

Hi there, what sort of dogs are/were your dogs?
I cook home food for my 2 dogs, 1 of them allergic to meat protein, so she can only eat fish. ( not all fish that she can eat, even salmon she can't eat, she only can eat white snapper fish. ) So i will add lot of veggies in their diet , hard boil eggs ( without eggs yolk ) bcauz 1 of the other dog has liver problem. he is ok now but still i will maintain clean protein diet for both of them like steam chicken breast , eggs white and brown rice and lot of minced vegetables like cabbage, carrot, broccoli, french bean , a bit of minced ginger. I really love your channel DR. Jones' and i learn a lot of things from you . Thank you so so much and I really appreciate your hard work.
I feed my dogs home cooked meals that are protein, vegetables and brown rice along with some type of dried bean.
Hi Dr. Jones. I am in Australia and I feed part kibble which is produced by a company and it is very well made called stayloyal. I also feed bard raw and my 6 1/2 yo cavoodle is doing very well on it. I love that I found your channel and have implemented your suggestions for ears and feet licking with good results. Thanks again, Helen
I was feeding my dogs a vegan kibble, but it was just so expensive and they don't give a discount for a multi-dog household, so I went with a kibble brand that is US based with all really good ingredients that is about $40 per bag cheaper than the bag of vegan kibble. That being said, my son, who has a Staffie with a lot of skin allergies, found that the vegan kibble has just about cleared up her skin issues, so he is sticking with the vegan kibble even though the cost is a lot more than it used to be. If my dogs develop any allergies in the future, I will put those particular pups on a vegan diet to see if that clears up any issues. Great video as always! Thanks
What kind of vegetarian kibble? Ty!
Hi , I am trying to search up US based cannot find . Can you tell more about the whole brand name or where to buy please . My golden have so much allergy that need to find something work for him thanks
Hey Dr. Jones🐾💌,
Appreciate your time and information.
Mine eats mostly raw with an occasional treat. It’s not a myth that if you feed raw they don’t stink bad. That’s the biggest thing I’ve noticed. We still have to watch her weight, and tartar build up on her teeth. She’s very healthy over all.
Over weight = over feeding. I’m living proof of that. lol Give your dog RAW meaty bones and that should take care of the tarter.
@@AstiJay that’s literally 95% of her diet. A dog can get fat eating raw as well. Even white meat. Chicken breast cost more but it does keep her lean. I usually buy leg quarters. Currently .99 a pound. And add liver, gizzard, Turkey necks. And balance with some chicken breast on occasion.
My baby, Marleigh, a 13 year old Chihuahua/ Miniature Pinscher was diagnosed with liver MVD at 4 years old. We tried everything for years to get her liver enzymes as close to normal as possible. We saw an internal medicine vet who suggested a vegan diet. It improved her enzymes significantly. A few years later, Marleigh had to have her gall bladder removed. She also has luxating patella in both rear knees. Pain meds not a good option for her due to the liver MVD. We started CBD oil and within about 3 months her enzymes started improving more and more. Four months ago she was diagnosed with CHF and put on Enalapril and Furosemide. Her vet recommended a salmon based dog food. Well, Marleigh doesn't eat it well. I also started her on Qunol Ultra CoQ10 100 MG x2, along with NaturVet liquid Salmon oil. I give her a tablespoon of organic ground flaxseed each day, as well as a sixteenth of a teaspoon of ground Tumeric mixed with pure honey. She IS MY ENTIRE WORLD and has been since I brought her home when she was 3 months old. Her vet said her prognosis was a little better than most with CHF since I caught it early, however still not the news us dog parents want to hear. I started boiling her one skinless chicken breast every 3 days so her heart can have the protein it needs. Is there ANYTHING else I can do to help her?
I’m so so happy I discovered your channel! I feed my dogs Vegan diets because I did extensive research and found that it was best for many reasons, including the fact that the animal Agritorture industry puts the worst “ingredients” into all those dog food brands. It’s horrendous not just because of the animal cruelty of enslaving, sexually violating, torturing and killing of the farmed beings as sentient as those we call of “pets”... but also it terribly unhealthy for our dogs. A few years ago I switched my dogs to Halo Vegan food (canned and dry to mix) and I also feed them V-Dog food 👁🌱✊🏻 The only thing I had to change was not giving them many fresh cooked peas as part of their daily snacks, as that is a protein they were already getting plenty of from their meals. I also give them baby carrots, sliced strawberries, blueberries, bell peppers, *dog* applesauce (the human kind might have toxic peels in it), Vegan fruitable treats, a tiny amount of broccoli, etc. all non-toxic, safe snacks for dogs. All my dogs love veggies and fruit! Recently I started adding a veggie and other dehydrated oatmeals to their food or for a snack because it only takes 15 mins or so with hot water to let sit and simply add to their food. I wish I knew long ago how vital moisture is for animals in their food, just as it is for humans! In addition to a healthy diet, I give them only filtered water to potentially help prevent bladder and/or kidney stones, don’t overfeed them as a way of “showing love”, give them the best daily liquid vitamins for better absorption, and wash their paws after every walk. I do this to wash as much off the super toxic chemicals they have to walk on out there, because car oil, pesticides, weed killers, ect, are literally killing our cats and dogs! Domestic and wildlife! All of us...but especially cats and dogs because they don’t wash their paws like we wash our hands and they lick their fur and paws where all those toxic chemicals are! Again, I wish I had started that loooong ago, but I was not even aware until reading more and more about how these chemicals are everywhere on sidewalks, grass and streets, and seriously harming/killing our furbabies with causing cancer and illnesses.
Same! Good job taking good care of those babies :)
been feeding my pup plant based food since 8 weeks and hes doing great. Made the choice to do so for his health, the environment, and the animals. Doesnt feel right to feed our companion animals the body parts of tortured animals bred into exsistance for consumption and greed.
I agree.
Absolutely! Soya chunks, certain vegetables, cheese, rice, legumes & some nuts are good options- they increase fibre, prevent obesity, avoid allergies & pumpkin with turmeric even helps as natural health enhancer...
May I ask what food you feed x
I feed my dog cooked meat, usually, beef, turkey, local beef liver and green beans plus other veg and 2 kinds of high quality kibble. I find this idea of a vegan diet very interesting.😸...but not sure I would do it. Thank you Dr.! Love your videos.
Thanks, great info. As a pure vegetarian, Asian family, we had a healthy pure breed Pomeranian Spitz & a mixed stray both of whom were healthy over 15 years eating entirely veg foods, as opposed to non veg fed dogs who got kidney failures & allergies eating meat based food, so we're hoping to get a Lhasa Apso pup soon & will buy Pedigree pure veg or Drools pure veg food.
It's good that you have told us what other things that should be taken into consideration. Such as age of the dogs and that it was done by people at home with their dogs. 👍
We started feeding our dogs and cat ground beef, egg yolks, desicated organ blend, marrow and a touch of nutritional yeast. They are thriving and my cat is 18 with a stronger body than when she was younger. My pets eat like my family. None of us will ever eat kibble processed foods again!
I love the vids!
Eat Meat 🥩💪🤙
My miniture dachshund loves cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage, I give her some mostly raw everyday. She gets organic kibble that has meat, I mix couple of brands. She eats green grass in the back yard everyday, she does not throw up :) She also get a few blue berries and a little plain oatmeal no salt from my plate. Once a week or two, gets a sardine from canned no salt though it is still a bit salty, I started giving her a a couple spoons of canned organic dog food daily too. I adopted her at age 5, she came down w IVDD at six and rear end paralyzed, had surgery and recovered fully in time, she is 10 years old now and had her yearly screening that looked really good. So far no reoccurrence of dreaded IVDD and no other disease.
DIY kibble (dehydrated) made like I make the family meal. With uncooked meat & veg, rice, potatoes, egg & vitamins and minerals
You’re awesome. Thank you for your work! Got my girl on a vegan diet too since it is the healthiest.
Can you please do a recipe video on an example of a balanced vegan meal for dogs?
Look into Vdog. I have 2 dogs thriving on it. They have vets there answering any and all of your questions. I have a 10 year old rat terrorist named Toula and a 3 year old Pitt named Sassafras. The pit felt like a Porcupine when I adopted her a year ago and was also heartworm positive. Strangers comment to me how soft she is, she is heartworm negative and super healthy.
I also suggest V-Dog food and Halo! 🌱 wet and dry mixing.

I feed my dog grain free high protein dog food and he just turned 6 is very energetic and never had a health problem.
Meat protien, offal, soft meaty bones all need to be the main part of the diet. Adding lots vegetables and fruits to the main diet does do wonders though. How I feed my English Labrador. Just say no to kibble. Dr. Jones 👍👍🇺🇸
My 11 year old German Shepherd was having GI issues and Anxiety and joint pain. I switched her to Natural Balance Vegan dry food as a base (she loves it) and every meal I add the animal protein with either cooked lean ground beef, boiled skinless boneless chicken, or soft boiled egg. She is doing amazingly. I just hated the animal bi product issues of dry food, so the way I found to effectively eliminate those nasty issues was to cut out all animal bi product from her food and start with the vegan dry base adding human grade meats. She also gets fresh baby carrots for her treats.
One of my dogs has severe allergies. The vet wants her to eat hydrolyed protein dog food but after reading the ingredients, I might try vegan dog food. My dogs eat homemade, raw, veggies and some fruit and a little 5 star kibble. I am a vegan but I never believed dogs should be exclusively vegan But my dog is allergic to most proteins except sardines for some reason so I may have to try it out afterall. . Maybe I can top it with her favorite...sardines.
That's what I do.
My dog has allergies too and the best vegan dog food imo is V-dog. It’s the only one my dog actually loved the taste of and her health was great on it. I also added some meat/fish to the diet as well just to make sure she had all her needed nutrients, but I would highly recommend it. Also there has not been one single DCM case associated with V-dog, they work with board certified vet nutritionists to formulate and evaluate the food. The quality and transparency of the company is much better than a lot of the other options, in my opinion.

My 12 month lab has been itching since I got him at 8 weeks...I immediately switched him to a raw diet at 8 weeks....I have tried everything under the sun....have a cabinet full of expensive products and none have worked....he's healthy but itches and has dry skin....he's on healthy fats....I don't know what else to do....I have focused on healing his gut...had the microbiome test, food and environmental intolerance test done and avoid his triggers but he still itches....he's on natural flea and tick sprays as needed....he's not been on any toxic preventative meds....and has only had first round of puppy shots....I don't know what else to do....it's hard to see them miserably scratching....I tried the quercetin...doesn't help...maybe he needs a vegan diet?
Try commercial vegan dog food, it is balanced to cover all the necessary nutrients. I use Natural Balance, Vegetarian (Vegan) Formula --- kibble for younger dogs, canned for old dogs. Add actual veggies - carrots!, broccoli stems, raw - during the day. They are considered much appreciated treats :-). If you can afford it, try V-Dog.
Meat and dairy products are inflammatory and cause the body to react on a *daily* basis. I'd figure this weakens the immune system overall, especially if it is triggered more than is easily tolerated..
I just learned about raw goat’s milk to help with allergies from a wholistic pet nutritionist on YT, her channel is The tattooed dog trainer. You may want to look into it. My dog is developing allergies as well and have other dogs who had issues as well. This looks very promising. Hope that helps you puppy
I have a jug pug he is 12 this year he is limping on his front leg the vet prescribed anti-inflammatory tablets called carprofen Didn't tell me what the side effects until I look it up not good now I have him on a rosehip vital canine powder i Sprinkle It on his food really works I really love Dr Jones information Love and God's blessing to you all ♥️🐾🐾🐕😺🚶
Or maybe the dogs were on vegan diets because they were physically able to...? As in, there is no clear causational relationship. There COULD BE a correlation, but having a particular diet won't necessarily CAUSE better health.
Also, the data is solely dependent on the dog owner's survey, which indicates that the researchers did not have controlled vetenary examinations on the subjects. This indicates that there could be skewed data due to the dog owners' beliefs or even ignorance. For instance, whereas a dog is clearly unwell, a stubborn owner could refuse to acknowledge the signs and take the dog to a vet. Even if the dog is seen by a vet, the professional has no authority to conduct detailed/specific tests. All the owner has to do is to say "no." After that, no discussion of the issue.
Hello Dr...I have a question...can u help me please. Today I took chloe my rescued yorky to have her teeth clean and to have an extration of two tooth...I arrived at the clinic at 8 am and my dog was given to me at 6.05 pm...after all the patients were gone which was estrange because usually when i take Chloe for dental cleaning or extraction she is out at 4 pm...Any how...I was told by the front desk gal that I owed another 180 dollars after paying $460 at front...the doctor examined Chloe and saw the teeth but never examine any other part of her mouth. He also told me that Chloe have a bronchial infection and needed antibiotics...they asked me sign some forms that specifically say that i have to pay for extra extractions. However, the front desk gal said that all my dog's tooth were taken out...i was shock, concern and upset. Then the doctor was upset at me because I was asking questions...turned out that they took 10 tooth, never asked me if i was ok with that, nor did x rays, but when i asked the doctor he said that it was a "Prevention" procedure so the dog did not have to come back every year for cleaning nor extractions and in case the teeth got infected and placing the organs in danger...Preventive???? So why I was not asked??? My dog is only 6.5 years old...so is that a normal procedure...I am very upset...specially when I asked for the bronchial infection medicine I was told that it was not such infection???? then I was told by the doctor and the nurse in the room that the medicines for pain and antibiotic for the tooth extraction were included...but then i was asked to pay for them . I paid for vaccines as well. and a blood test..So can u tell me is that normal???? Is like taking a person to have kidney stones removed and walk out with no kidneys just to prevent more kidneys stones in the future...I am wrong??? ah...in top of all that they lost my dogs leash and have the face to tell me that I lost it and probably took it home...the problem...i never went back home because the drive is 45 minutes and the gas is expensive...
@@maryannsinopoli8957 I am thinking to do that...sadly they only get a slap in their hands and that is it...buss as usual.

Same. That's why we switched too.

I feed my dogs home made cooked with 75% of protein and 25% of veggies. 10% of that 75% is secreting organs, and 5 % is heart on that 75% batch
My dogs are vegan but i give them meat sometimes....
What sort of meat x
A lot of our customers are not vegan but their dogs are intolerant to a lot of animal proteins 👍
Did you dye your hair? Its nice you look like quicksilver
Why feed a dog something they would not ordinarily eat in the wild.
Are you referring to plant based foods such as kale, berries, etc? I ask because dogs are omnivores and as scavengers they will eat all those things if available to them. They will eat plant based proteins in the wild if available. It’s perectly healthy - in fact, it’s waaay healthier because plant based diets don’t have hormones, antibiotics, rotting and diseased carcasses (what they put into dog foods), and literal animal poop...even tumors! 🤢
@@threefreaksonaleash6619 dogs and cats eat MEAT as their primary source of nutrition in the wild. Feeding animals foods on a REGULAR BASIS that they do NOT eat on a regular diet in the wild is not good for the animal. The best is feeding animals RAW MEAT as their primary source of nutrients.
Come on, these comments are ridiculous. Dogs aren’t wolfs they’ve been domesticated, they aren’t killing animals and eating them in the wild. They aren’t like wolfs.
@@jaisensingleton627 Right! Many dogs would go for a piece of cheese combined with a reeses over a piece of steak lol.
My dog lived for 16years she ate an all meat diet, the one thing I didn’t do was vaccinate her on a regular basis.
Vaccines are the problem not the food!
I totally agree about the vaccines! I also feed my dog Alaskan wild caught canned salmon, with diced fresh veggies. He's a Bearnie Mt mix, who is 16. Their life span is usually 8-10 years. I think he has benefited greatly from my avoiding ANY extra meds!
@@karenbianco1084 I think your dog will live for many more years thanks to your care and knowledge, that’s the main factor in the longevity of our pets.
Knowledge is a key factor in our pets health, most vets just vaccinate without thought of what that vaccine is doing to them.
I only vaccinated my dog once as a puppy that’s all she needed, tbh I’d probably not vaccinate at all now that I know the truth about them. She lived a long healthy life well beyond the expectations of her lifespan and I’m so glad I was able to be a part of it.
My dog would not look or feel good for 3 to 4 days after the vaccines, I only did it because of the kennel requirements.
I totally agree about the vaccines! But I think it's a combo of food and vaccines. Not to mention the flea and tick meds they claim work so well.
@@aliciaanderson5025 I think that shit kibble from China and other countries is making fleas from garbage ingredients disease ingredients so pets have below resistance. We'll need to push for better pet foods. Boycott or ?

I give my shihTzu a raw organic only! Diet. Not dog food meat. I have a top insurance, but never need to go to vets to use it. I do give her organic supplements too. A natural flea treatment only occasionally. And no vaccines. Unless I cant travel without her having them. Also I would like to add what I think is very important she hasn't been neutered, so she has her Hormones. She's 9 yrs old and has developed a likeing for a organic slow cooked lamb shank. I am vegan , but my dog wont eat vegan food . It's a natural balanced quality food , no chemicals that keeps our animals healthy 💜🐕💜
Hi I feed my dogs dry dog food. Meat is so expensive right now. I’m on a fixed income and would like to know which dry dog food is best for my small dogs.
Hill science advantage is cheap not expensive
Also you should boil chicken to your dog , not expensive either
None. As multiple studys say
As if choosing sth means sth is good for us. Without knowing the outcome my dog would also choose chocolate.
I’m not even going to watch this. Hell no it’s not ok to feed vegan to dogs. Don’t care what the studies say
A vet in California treats even cats on a vegan diet. They're far healthier. Good to have an open mind.
@@virginiadonnelly1031 it’s animal abuse
An incredibly open minded view of science.
Edit: Sarcasm often goes undetected in these posts. And WHO is feeding vegans to dogs????
Genius
Dogs are carnivores, WHY would you give them a veggie diet ? My dogs eat like dogs. Meat, good meat, some veg, bones,
American?
My dog is carnivores then why he is allergic to chicken , eggs or any meat protein ?
@@lubov5569 Haha of course.
Thank you dr jones my dogs love fruit and vegetables I give my dogs beef liver also
That's great
My dog does surprisingly well on Snickers bars. The main advantage is that this finicky beast truly loves them! He's been eating 3-4 Snickers a day for about 2 months, and he's got energy to burn. I think this is closer to a dog's natural diet than most commercial dog foods.
Please change the "vegan" to "plant based" - vegan is an ethical principle to avoid causing suffering as much as possible.
Also, please change the lettuce to papaya, mango, melon, etc. No dog is going to take lettuce.
Avoiding allergies is important: Top 3 allergies for dogs: 1 Beef (34%), 2 Dairy (17%), 3 Chicken (15%). Mueller 2016
I am sorry but I do follow the money. If a study is funded by certain groups, I usually know the outcome. Just like vaccine studies are funded by big pharma, studies like this will be highly suspect if they are not independent. You see, it is hard to bite the hand that feeds you. Dogs are omnivores like humans. Some people who went vegan suffered from allergies and nutritional deficiencies. The pro-carnivore diet humans so far said they are doing fine, but for me I need to have both meat and veggies as well as carb sources.
Over the last 60+ years, I've had dogs that prefer veggies and fruit over meat.
Who is funding & behind the trials? MEAT only MEAT The B.A.R.F. diet. All Dogs are carnivores
The B.A.R.F. diet is a popular type of raw dog food diet, which consists of fresh, uncooked meat, bones, fruits, vegetables, and sometimes herbs, dairy, whole grains, minerals, and supplements. Raw dog food diets contain more protein than most commercial pet foods.
Tulle is such a good dog. she was really wanting the meat you had on the plate lol.
I feed my dog vegan, chickbeans, Vegetables, Flaxsseedoil, Rice and he absolutely loves it. His coat looks healthy. We stay with that. Better than mRNA vaccined animals what is now our meat. We, the owner as well changed because of this to a plant based diet.
Do you supplement with anything like taurine etc?
@@eilisniaisi5954 if you say I should, I add it ....was thinking the same today by coidence
Nonsense
With diets it really pay to pay attention to the specific dog. Digs are not pure carnivore, that is the cat. And a pure vegan diet would be best only if the dog had serious allergies and directed that way. As a pet parent i feed what is best for the pet not what i personally would be eating. Poor things would starve if they ate what i ate when i remember to eat
I don’t think so who in the world would feed their dog a vegan diet? Only a vegan. Dogs are descendants of wolfs you’ve gotta be kidding me if you think this is a good idea. Offer your dog a salad and then show them a plate of hamburger and see which one they go for it’s definitely not the salad I think this is sad
About a year ago I started feeding my little 10 year old dog boiled vegetables because I found that cracking open the commercial dog can was making me sick. Not literally. I just couldn't keep doing it. I boil potato, pumpkin, carrot, celery including the leaves, kale and spinach when I have it growing. I thicken it with corn starch. Basically its what I eat. I used to give the dog peas but she started leaving them so I stopped. Obviously she read the internet news about peas and cancer in dogs (kidding but it did happen the same time.) What I add that makes her slide sideways turning the corner in her rush to get to her dinner, is slightly fried egg. She eats everything at first offer - unless she's eaten too much dry food earlier in the day. Her fur coat has never looked healthier and she has the same amount of energy that she has had so far in her long life.
Not biologically correct. A dog is NOT a rabbit 😅 A dog would eat a rabbit though....cause it is MEAT.
One of the longest living dog in history was vegan. My male boxer lived to 18years of age. Dogs are true omnivores. Can live on either or. Most commercial dog foods are trash in general. Cancers, anything can be added into their kibble. It's not regulated.
Humans aren't rabbits either, yet they (many of them, of course there is a distribution) thrive and remain healthier versus meat eaters. Many who restrict overall calories long-term may even experience longer, healthier lives. Dogs are hunters, and so are humans. That doens't mean a meat-free diet cannot improve health
@@jellybean6778 that’s a lie! I’m an ex vegan and vegetarian who cut meat out for years and got very sick and nutritionally deficient. Plants are missing 15 vital nutrients animals and humans need only found in meat. All study for food and Longevity are not even studies. We can not lock up humans and animal and control the environment and food they eat for long periods of time. All the food recommendations are based off of surveys and questionnaires and corruption from big Foods. That’s why the government guidelines have made Americans obese by 2030 and everyone not just fat but sick. Dogs are also fat and sick as well bc human feed them an unnatural diet. Dog are meant to eat meat and so are human. Human can thrive off of eating only meat with out nutrients Deficiencies and so can dogs. Put kale and a steak in front of any dog and see what they eat!
@@jennan2149 not a lie. And i know what i am talking about. As a PhD nutritionist and vegetarian for over 40 years, it is obvious you didn't know what you were doing. YOU were unaware of what you needed to be doing to ensure you were getting all the nutrients you needed, including pairing the correct plant-sourced protein sources so that you did not become deficient. Yes, they are called essential amino acids because human bodies can't make them, but they are found in many plants, and you have to understand how to pair plant sources to get them all. The problem was that you were uneducated about how to go about it. Read a book from a qualified source, not some crap on a website by another "vegetarian" who doesn't know what they are doing.
Raw meat is better for a dog
I had a vet to tell me to feed my dog all vegetables! But my dog did not like any vegetable. My large dog lived 15 years. I fed him meat 🥩 & Homemade Food 🥘
Just wondering and being inquisitive, was the meat conventional or do you have to get grass fed? Thanks
Who did the research- vegan society?
I THINK the answer is duh. (especially since animals/ dogs and cats weren't made/ born out from a box, nor a bag)
The study made one big mistake.. they didn't made a list where dog feed with cooked meat & vegetables together
Pets just need an adequate nutritional intake, and it's possible to get it from plants in a digestable form.
Dude, look at a dogs teeth! Does it look like they were put here on this earth to munch on vegetables!? Seriously!
Dogs require meat and some carbohydrates. That is what people used to give dogs for centuries even before they were bred into poodles and schnauzers. Even omnivores like bears and raccoons still steer towards meat from time to time because they need those nutrients for their health and wellbeing. Completely taking it out of their diet will definitely have long term consequences
Dogs, like humans, do not require carbohydrates. They might be able to tolerate them in small amounts, like humans, but they don't require them.
Evidence? If the protein sources provide all necessary amino acids, it does not matter the source (animal v plant). Plant proteins, when properly combined to provide all necessary amino acids, are not a lesser protein vs animal-sourced. Other nutrients may need to be added for a properly balanced diet but what are the "definite" long term consequences?
Dogs like humans don’t need meat in their diet
this is ultimately an associational study that relies on non-scientists to make assessments of their pets. vegans saying their dogs were healthier on a vegan diet, who would've guessed? sorry, but dogs are flexible carnivores. i'll stick with the raw--muscle meat, all different kinds of organ meat + tripe, and some canned sardines cuz she doesn't like them raw. she's happy, lean, fit, and healthy. she also doesn't need flea treatment cuz they're not interested, ticks still ride with her but i can easily remove those.
dogs are carnivores they need meat , cows are herbivores feeding them bone meal caused BSE , species appropriate diets have to be healthy
Biased study .. absolute tripe info then.
My dogs hated the vegan dog food.
Nah not buying it. Dogs need meat
Did you finish the whole video? He’s not even saying meat is bad.
@@East9211 yeah, I commented at the beginning. Doesn't mean I dislike his channel or input quite the contrary.
Cats need taurine as an essential amino acid, but i am not sure about dog nutritional requirements. If these nutrients are provided in a supplement (and dogs have the requirement), dogs could thrive on a non meat based diet. If no meat were available for anyone, dogs could survive and thrive.
Im vegan AND my opinión the diga AND the Cats be carnibores thats simple, AND better meat rab even some this food vegan ITS good for vegans, Like yo no vegan for walking dead
Feeding a dog a vegan diet is just silly. Have people completely lost all common sense?
No not and never, tee hee. Fruits and vegs in all amounts yes but it' meats. The difference between thriving or surviving. The problem is often humans can't feed themselves. Look at their teeth, vegan does not cut it. Talk to rescuers that have gone to raw and get the facts. Bias and greed definitely flaws any study. 36 or 40 are numbers that are very close.
BS!
Carnivores were made to eat a mainly meat diet!
Y'all are tripping! 😂
Humans are creating serious problems with these vegan diets giving dogs things they should not have at all or can only have a little of,like spinach.Dogs are not humans. My last 2 senior dogs passed away last year, a rottweiler/golden retriever mix and a Cane Corso. I have their vet records that prove they were 17 1/2 and 16 1/2.all of our families dogs, large breeds, live to this age. We feed them whatever leftovers our family eats,(if there's nothing in it they can't have) and cook up different meat, fish, chicken on sale to add to the leftovers. They eat eggs and oatmeal for breakfast, etc-I refuse to label myself a vegan ss it has turned into some kind of cult. Many vegans are causing suffering/killing their pets, making them vegan. It is disgusting.God designed nature the way it is for a reason. Stop trying to play God with your animals, get over your control issues and accept things as they were meant to be. Stop dragging innocent animals into your whatever.
This is an absolutly job dogs are carnivores that eat meat and who ever feeds them rabbit and cow food deserves putting in jail for murder
no vegan dogs are carnivores, omg :-( reduce the protein but completely vegan no
