  • Have a picky pet or a furry friend who could use a health boost? Yes, our canine counterparts can be vegan, just like we can! Dogs are omnivorous, meaning that they can subsist on meat and/or plant foods. Especially with our large breed Bernese Mountain Dog, proper nutrition and reducing inflammation is of utmost importance!
We initially switched Beau to a vegan dog kibble, V-Dog, because he simply did not enjoy and would not eat his other name-brand conventional kibble. When we let him try V-Dog for the first time, he gobbled it up so fast, we knew we couldn't go back! From time to time, we also enjoy whipping up some homemade vegan dog food for our fur baby in our Instant Pot, because we think pets should get to enjoy a variety of fruits, veggies, and whole grains just like we do! We found dietary information shared by fellow UA-camr, High Carb Hannah to be super helpful to us in formulating our recipe, so be sure to check out her video linked below! This plant-based recipe is simple and nutritious, and helps to extend the use of your vegan kibble, and make it more tasty and enjoyable for your pup!

Genuine question here - do any of your supplements/kibble used contain L-carnitine? Graduating vet soon & trying to educate myself on vegan diets for dogs as it will definitely come up! @@samothco be mindful of your dog’s digestive health regarding sulphur. I had been using Vegedog for 2 years with no digestive issues, but my dog had one UTI(after 2 years of using the Vegedog supplement in her homemade food )and it was very bad, with a lot of blood in her urine! Then they increased the sulphur in the vegedog so much that the product had a very strong and foul sulphur smell, and it made my dog very sick with gas, burping, abdominal discomfort, vomiting and diarrhea. Now, l only add half of the amount of Vegedog that the recipe calls for and so far it seems to be okay, but l will not purchase it again. My boy is a 12lb. 4yr. old Chorkie he is doing very well his coat has gotten so shiny and thick his hair color has gotten darker and he is not as aggressive as he use to be, he kept suffering from yeast and ear infections since he has been on a plant based diet he hasn't had another ear infection and his teeth has gotten very white. The girl is a 4yr. old 9lb. Yorkiepoo she seems to be doing well but her hair is thinning and she scratches a lot I tweeked the diet a bit and she seems to be doing better I am also planning to add a daily vitamin to see if that helps, her teeth are doing much better and they are both full of energy.

Hey everyone, don’t forget to wash your rice and yams first. Your lentils are supposed to be pre-soaked for 2-4 hours and rinsed before cooking with a potato(to aid with digestion), eliminate potato after cooking. And, very important*** raw carrots can cause UTIs(urinary tract infections) in dogs. Also, keep in mind this video is a long commercial for Compassion Circle, as all these products are sold there. No one actually needs to purchase V-Dog food, or the supplements Vegedog and Green Mush or Crannimals(too much cranberry is harmful to dogs) to make nutritionally complete meals for their dog.

I feed my dog a vegan diet but can you guys tell me what else I should be giving him to keep him healthy? He’s 20 lbs and 10 years old, he’s already pretty healthy but I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing? I know you are not vets but I feel you are extremely knowledgeable. One of my friends that’s not vegan made a comment that he’s not getting everything he needs. My vet has never said anything that I’m doing wrong but just want to make sure. You inspired me to (finally) make food for the 3 year old pit bull we recently adopted. I soaked brown lentils & garbanzo beans overnight & rinsed them this morning, adding sweet potato & quinoa and cooked in Ipot for 30 min. I added kale, canned pumpkin (unseasoned), flax, blueberries, tahini & tofu then immersion blended. She honestly wasn't too crazy about it but she will do anything for pumpkin so I'll just add more pumpkin to each bowl until this batch is gone. Until then, I'll be doing a "sniff & taste" test to determine which individual ingredients she likes (should've thought to do that beforehand because she's a picky little thing!). Tahini is definitely NOT her vibe but she likes Peanut Butter so lesson learned. Nooch would be a nice addition, too. I really appreciate all the detailed info 🤗

I just found this wonderful channel and I don’t have any dogs, but I believe it was mentioned in the video that the V-dog dry food formula is nutritionally complete and therefore contains all of the vitamins and minerals necessary for the pups to thrive. Not adding any of the additional ingredients that the owners have added does not make the dry food alone any less nutritious, although I do believe the added ingredients like the sweet potatoes, carrots and blueberries definitely make the final product more palatable and aesthetically pleasing. Before going vegan, one of my shih tzus was acting very lethargic and she’s only 6 years old. She was also diagnosed with cholesterol plaques in her eyes. That’s the reason I started with their new diet. As soon as we started with it, she became a very happy and active dog. Another change in her behavior was her kindness. She now wants to curl up and will lick my whole face if I let her. It’s an amazing change. Sometimes they don’t go for it, but all it takes is to force a itty bitty amount inside their lips and they get interested in a few seconds.

Actually, I recently learned that you do not have to do Vege Dog supplements in your home cooked food if also feeding the kibble, because the kibble is fully supplemented! I was doing this too, but recently my holistic vet said I was over supplementing by doing that. You only need to add those extra supplements if you are strictly feeding them a homemade diet ;-)

    • @bbkiki8480
      @bbkiki8480 2 роки тому +1

Although kibble is a balanced diet, you can also add a small amount of fruits, vegetables, meat etc. You can also add an egg to the kibble as well as some meal toppers. Adding water or other liquids to kibble is a great way to make up for the dryness of the kibble. Personally I don’t agree with feeding dogs a vegan diet because their bodies are designed to eat meat and plant proteins are not the same as meat proteins.

@@charlesjenkins1225 you know little about what you are saying
Veterinarians cause far more problems than anyone
      they treat animals like objects
they like a doctor have little knowledge on nutrition
they de-sex animals at a very young age
      causing extreme health problems
they did this to humans a few hundred years ago castrating young boys so that the body without testicles wouldn't produce certain hormones such as testosterone leading to a body that didn't form correctly, initially so that their voices wouldn't deepen as males do, they also didn't grow facial hair, or produce semen and other such things brought on as you age but these were just the external definitions
with the testicles - being part of the endocrine system and releasing and regulating hormones no longer there leading to extreme mental emotional forms of distress, bone structure problems because the bones wouldn't form or fuse together especially at the time of what would be puberty, leading to things like the ribcage continuously growing until the very end of their life causing great breathing problems, literally every cell in their body brain cell nerve cell muscle, multiplied and grew but did not have a certain "direction" that the hormones of the endocrine system give. ultimately leading to an early death at around the ages of 40
And you wonder why some dogs live two or three times the age of others
Just because someone read a few books and can cut into a human or animal with ease
does not make them a healer
they know little to nothing on human nutrition
      what could they know
      therefore
      on Canine nutrition
THROUGHOUT THE AGES 97% OF SICKNESS IS CAUSED BY WHAT WE EAT
DOCTORS WERE INITIALLY HEALERS OR MEDICINE MEN,
THEY ALMOST ALWAYS ADVISE YOU TO TAKE THIS HERB OR THAT, AND CONNECT TO NATURE IN A CERTAIN WAY
THE ONLY TREATMENT MODERN DOCTORS CAN PROVIDE IS WHEN A FREAK ACCIDENT OCCURS SUCH AS YOU BROKE YOUR LEG,STITCH UP A WOUND OR GOT STABBED IN THE EYE
"DISEASES" SIMPLY DON'T EXIST IN NATURE,
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW A BIRD WITH CANCER
      AND
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW A POLLUTED RIVER
you leave a piece of flesh outside, especially away from nature such as on a pavement
and you will find it soon become diseased, insects will soon scurry to consume it
HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A GROUP OF COCKROACHES (THE BROWN VARIETY) IN GREEN NATURE
      I KNOW I HAVEN'T
TELLS A LOT ABOUT YOUR SOCIETY
LOOK AT A SATELLITE PICTURE OF ANY MAJOR CITY AND TELL ME IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A CANCER
And now you know why the suicide rate of veterinarians is over six times higher than the average population,

Do you still have your kitty cats? If so, what do you feed them? I have read sooo many conflicting views within the plant based community on whether cats can sustain on a vegan diet. I have kitty's and they are currently on a omnivorous diet. I want to do what is best for them, but would love to put them on a plant based, whole grain diet if that is an option. Any opinions or personal experience, please share.Thx again ~ Jahnvieve xxoo

Jahnvieve Buseman if you want to do what's best for them... You already know. They don't do plant-based. Check the BARF diet for dogs and cats

Jahnvieve Buseman I have read that cats are carnivorous and in order to be healthy they cannot be fully plant-based! We just feed them a Purina Naturals Indoor Blend!

Jahnvieve Buseman I would highly suggest looking at the BARF diet. Biologically Appropiate Raw Foods. There's a documentary on it I believe... Check it out

Love this so much for so many reasons! Thank you for making this great video!! My dogs have been vegan for years! I tried all the vegan kibbles, but have been buying vegan halo kibble for the past few years and also supplement with fresh veggies and fruits and homemade food also! This video is so great, thank you for making it!! This is how all pups should eat :)

I would gladly buy V-Dog and use your discount code but they still don't ship to Canada yet :( When the company first started, they would ship to Canada.. up until 5 years ago! I used to happily buy from them and would even have my pup pose for pictures with the bag hahah.
I just discovered your channel and subscribed! Will check out your other videos :) thanks

We’re vegan too. I agree with a lot of this because the meat industry is discusting. But canines are omnivores and I use organic rabbit / duck free range antibiotic free chicken . Turkey. Otherwise you risk a serious change of lack of absorbable minerals :(

    • @jadeedmundson5715

Your information is incorrect! Also, you are not a vegan if you feed animals to your dog, rather you are following a vegan diet - big difference!

    • @animalsarebeautifulpeople3094
      @animalsarebeautifulpeople3094 8 місяців тому +2

The word omnivore is meaningless since all animals can digest meat. But only obligate carnivores NEED to eat meat. Dogs are most certainly NOT obligate carnivores and actually thrives on a dog appropriate plant based diet.
