Good stuff! Having the same problem and Had the hardest time figuring out where the water was leaking from. I took off the headliner and ran the hose over the truck until I saw any leaking and Boom! It is leaking exactly where your two areas were in the inside window. Going to get some sealant tomorrow and do the same thing. Don’t have time to wait on the dealership and I sure don’t want to be without my truck for weeks just to fix a leak. Thanks!! For the upload. 👍🏿

It's not ice expansion. It's a poorly designed window. I just went through the same thing, with leaks and all. Today the glass company was out installing what will be my third rear window in this truck. The guy showed me the old window. The Ram rear window has a thin plastic frame that goes all the way around the perimeter of the glass. The sealant used to hold the window in place goes against that plastic, not flush against the glass like it should. Plastic gets brittle in heat or cold. So a hot summer or cold winter, or just big changes in temp due to a cold front or something, causes that plastic piece to crack and in comes the water, since the sealant is on the other side of the plastic.
It's a terrible design and unfortunately means the leaks will keep coming back. This sealant fix your using is just about your best bet to keep water out, even if it doesn't look the cleanest.
There's actually an ongoing lawsuit dealing with these rear windows right now.

Was this covered by glass protection or general comprehensive coverage?

Yes I have a 2020 RAM and a 2004 Chevrolet and the back after all these years is just fine. Very piss poor design.

Makes sense why those rear windows dont come standard with the truck unless you custom order the truck online

@@AK4974U That's not true at all. This is happening on stock windows on every model, from the Tradesman up to the tippy top of the line. It's not a custom order window issue.

@@bodiemcdonald8288 My first window replacement was covered under the original bumper to bumper warranty. When it started leaking again a year later, I was out of warranty, but the glass company my dealer used had a 2 year warranty on the repair, so that covered it. Had to do it again this year, same thing, Glass company warranty covered it.

Thank you for the video.. My 2020 Ram 1500 has a radio control module thats mounted on the wall below the rear sliding window, that gets wet from water intrusion and shuts down my truck.. It has happened twice, at 1k each + towing and its just out of warranty.. Ram just wants to replace parts instead of solving the issue.. After telling me the module is not waterproof, I decided to make a plastic bag raincoat for the module to keep it safe... I originally took my truck to Safelite to have window replaced and they told me it was good and the problem is my 3rd brakelight.. I silicone sealed that up but I still get leakage coming directly below the sliding window, nothing is leaking from headboard area... I am going to try your caulking method before I pay 1300.00 for a rear window.. I hope it works!

I have a 2016 and I found on the roof there are two black things that look like they drain water away. I followed them to the rear and found what looks like to drain holes. I was looking and found 3 outlets just under the window and can not figure out where the inlet is if it's not where the black roof things end. So I taped them off along with the 3rd break light and now no water leak. I think I am on to something. I'm going to use the black caulk and just go nuts.

Sadly, this didn’t work on my truck, but…Ram just recently extended the warranty on the seals on the fin and lights. I called in and let them know that the seal failed on my back window. They replaced it. I didn’t have to pay a dime. I didn’t go through the dealership, but contacted the Ram warranty service directly. They gave me a code to give the dealership to schedule the replacement.

  • @twoOnine

I'm going to try that hopefully it works. I had mine replaced already and 2 months later it started leaking again. I'm adding sealant after this replacement. The idiots at Ram should have done a recall. Maybe they're waiting for a lawsuit

I checked my 2019 ram and the water does not enter through the stop light, right now it is raining and I removed the light and it is not wet, I checked the inside and on the sides of the speakers it looked wet which seems to get through the trim of the ceiling

Thanks for the vid. Just purchased 2019 5th gen 30k miles and window is leaking after a hard rain. Dealer ship says warranty is not going to cover and it’s up to me to fix it. 🤦🏽‍♂️ this blows. From Michigan so not excited for when winter hits. Gonna be a recurring problem.

No problem. Yeah they told me they would cover mine I bought mine brand new so I still have the bumper to bumper warrenty! But I was told they don't want to do a recall because it's not safty related!

    • @facepalmdaily4404
      @facepalmdaily4404 Рік тому

dude, I hope you went to a different dealer or contacted Ram directly. They absolutely should cover it under the bumper to bumper warranty. Mine cracked the first time at 35k. They replaced it under warranty. You then have a 2 year warranty on that new glass through Ram. So when it cracks again, you get it replaced free again.

When things freeze they don't expand they contract. Things expand when heated, so in this case the sealant contracts and receipts allowing air and water to penetrate into cabin through those points. You're right… Sort of
