I have a 2019 Classic and found water visible leaking from the corner of the rear drivers side. This video is perfect for avoiding the ridiculous time waiting for the dealer to fix. Thank you
Same 2019 Classic 4 door 1500. All wet above the passenger side back seat headliner and running into the storage under the back seat. Excellent video and will be getting the stuff to fix it today!!!!
I just had the top of my truck painted and now this leaking started just behind my seat left side coming through the headliner- This is a regular cab truck-
make sure that the silicone you use is acid-free or else it will erode any metal over time. Do not use standard bathroom caulk sealant as that contains acid.
You can purchase a new 3rd brake light assembly (part no. 68298380AH LAMP-CENT) for $37.65 from the dealership, at service and parts. Dodge will install it at a labor charge of $30.00. I think the leak problem occurs because if you park your truck outside, the sun damages the gasket seal. So it will need to be replaced every 3-4 years.
Thanks so much for this video. I did the silicone at the end of the weather stripping by the back window. I didn’t think about the 3rd brake light. I’ve been losing my mind the past couple days. I will order a new gasket. 👍🏽
Just noticed my weather stripping on passenger side is loose at the end... now I see water stain on upper passenger side roof.... now I know the fix.... glad I found this video !!!
Thanx for the video... just noticed my 2017 1500 leaking and a water stain in the upper passenger side roof liner... . My weather stripping has come unglued for about 2 inches. Makes sense now. Glad I found this video. I had just ran my truck through the auto car wash !!!!
I bought a used 2012 Ram 2500 a few years ago and the headliner is stained like you describe in the video. Thanks for the tutorial and the link for the gasket.
Mine is a 2 door 2016; the sheet metal under my high mount light is stamped differently than yours. Instead of a straight metal line between the window and the light there are a couple gaps at the bottom of the light and water was getting in right there, all it took was my better half holding the hose while I sat inside the cab.I ended up switching to LED bulbs for long life then using a clear flexible sealer (DAP Ultra Clear) as a gasket for the light assembly and plugging the gap between the light and window frame. It's been bone dry now for 3 years. Good vid, thanks!
Don’t forget to protect your sliding window regulator and the RF Hub. Both are on that wall behind the seat. I just had my RF hub replaced but the RAM dealer did t address the leaking window. Pretty poor service to charge nearly $800 but not fix the problem. Window leaks and shorts out the RF Hub. Needs to be a recall. 2019 Rebel with sliding rear window.
Any rubber gasket will "dry out" over time, losing its ability to expand. I took the third lamp off, cleaned off the gasket, tapping the dirt loose, letting it fall out... then saturated the gasket with just enough silicone, leaving the lamp off while it absorbed. Then reinstalled the lamp. For good measure sprayed a small amount along the top edge using the straw. Two rainstorms later, still no leaking.
Thing is, they won't recall it, because they'd have to recall Sooooo many things. I need to fix mine tomorrow. Just going to get a new assembly at O'Reilly's for about $55 then check the second spot, since my weather stripping needs replaced as well, as well as a bulb in my light assembly. Might as well get some silicone and new assembly, might save $5 🤷♂️
I'm on my 3rd water leak in the rear on my 14 cummins. First time was my 3rd brake like, second leak was my rear cab vents now 3rd time, I do have every down to metal in the back seat it looks like it's coming from the pass rear window but after watching this it makes since with the body seam on top with the trim piece over it mine in started to peel away from roof. Thank you for the video
@Z oh god, that doesn't sound one bit of fun. I had the same issue(s) as you replaced the 3rd brake light and gasket maybe 2 years ago, now over winter I noticed the back seat and window get wet during rain storms. I plan on trying to remedy the situation tomorrow, how did you find it was the roof seam, and not just the trim piece?
We have a 2014 ram Laramie limited mega cab or headliners wet in the back passenger corner just like yours. Also our floor gets wet right next to the door seal on the carpet no no toolbox spot because it’s the mega cab with the flat floor also, it leaks from the front door handle which could’ve been due to the sunroof drains being plugged on our 2006 mega cab, it only leaks from the front door handles and even though we cleaned out the front drains it is still leaking. We have not gotten to the rear drains which I understand come out on the rear of the cab in a tight spot, we will check the brake light and that spot where the trim at the same comes together at the window. With so many rams leaking, there should be a class action lawsuit and a recall.
The roof leak plus the rear vent leak are just two of the many problems I have really been disappointed in my 2013 1500 Ram truck and these problems didn't just start up because my truck became 10 years old, the six trips back and forth to the dealership to get the AC fixed should have been my first clue when the pickup was still new.
Thank you so much. I have been trying to figure out why my back window would occasionally leak and I would end up using my carpet cleaner to set the water up from underneath my backseat on speaker boxes I have a 2008 Dodge ram 2500 that I constantly work on, and mostly out of boredom, but that was a great tip. Thank you so much.
Same problem. I think mine was cause by my local car wash. It's a 2017. I checked My third brake light and it was really loose. Tightened it down and hopefully that solved it.
Its bad enough sunroofs leak, but 3rd brake lights, rear vents, body seams and rear windows have all been known to leak on these Rams. Not only that but if you have a rear cap you have to move it back to remove your 3rd brake light. Good grief for what these trucks cost this is inferior stock materials and parts. We had the issue of water under the rear seat and coming out of grab handles. When we ordered the gasket for the third brake light it came with two. We found out why. After we installed the gasket, we checked our seal by turning on the brake and cargo light to see if light was noticeable between the seal and the cab which it was. It appears the light assembly has a bow in the middle and does not set flush. The screws on each end of the lens are not sufficient, as it needs a couple in the middle of the assembly too. So we doubled up on the gasket and it sealed the light assembly to the cab. We also put a bead of silicon around the perimeter for good measure. Problem solved .
@@lynetteverner9038 Over the gaskets between the light assembly and the cab. I smoothed the bead out with my finger like you would when caulking anything. The two gaskets would probably been fine but I added the silicon to be sure across the top.
I have water stains in the back corners of my headliner and I can actually lift up the seals on both sides that separate the roof from the side panels, as you mentioned. The seals are one piece until they reach the back of the cab, then there is a shorter piece that curves down the back of the cab, which is the part that seems loose where I can lift the tail end up almost a quarter inch. Can that part of the seals on both sides be removed, cleaned, and resealed?
It can leak from the front as well. Mine was leaking on the passenger pillar, I had to seal the front glass and the “gutter” but never leaked in the back..I think. My 3rd brake light is out even after sealing it as well and replacing all bulbs. There is still some kind of issue with the 3rd brake light with or without a leak
Did you notice condensation on the front windshield because of the moisture in the back? I thought it was the glass that had to be resealed but the dealer claims it might be the third brake light.
If the water goes forward does that leak into the door grab handle of the front passengers because my pillar of the door handle on a driver side is leaking is it because of that??
I bought my 2004 used with 14K on it and it leaked and I chased it for a couple of months....it also didn't have a rear slider and I wanted one so I had it installed by a glass outfit.......I finally got around to really locating this leak and finally tracked it down to the top of the window seal not sealing tightly.....I had sealed the 3rd brake light earlier which eliminated that area..... I'm now leak free but the sealant I used, not silicone, has started to melt in the heat and creep down the window......I will need to clean it out and reseal it with silicone.....
Good video, but I have to add that the brake light will not stay sealed with just the gasket. They make the third brake light out of plastic (all brands). In the old days they had a pot metal frame for strength. What happens is that you tighten the screws which bows the light and then it will leak sooner or later. Fix it by glueing it with RTV. I know, I had to learn the hard way several times.
Please help me. My 2015 STL is cutting out. I changed the intake gasket. I was told it is getting too much air. Where does the hose from the intake running to the back hook into and is there supposed to be a clamp.
I put rtv around the third brake light and under its gasket. Hopefully the leak stops. I’ll cross the bridge of getting it back out when the time comes.
Sealed the shark fin. Water still coming in. I have a crack below the corner of the rear slider on the driver side. But from the out side I can’t see any brake or opening it could be leaking. And my head liner in wet about 6-8 inches from the top of rear window up. 2020 59k truck that can’t keep water out. I’m pissed.
Mine is leaking out of the driver side front grab handle screw opening. Tried sealing the rear brake light and it's still leaking. Would that other window strip spot allow water to run down to the grab handle? The headliner is totally dry and there isn't any water coming out anywhere else...

Dont use silicone! Use a product that is made to flex and move. I like gecel pro flex. Its made for rvs but it is some good stuff. It easier to remove than silicone, no peeling at the edges, and unlike silicone, it will stick to itself if you ever need to reseal the area. Dicor makes some good sealants to. But anything you find in home depot is pretty much garbage for anything that moves and vibrates, like a dodge ram.

Wonder what Dodge plans on doing about all these mold infested trucks?
Cost me a curtain airbag. The water ran down my side because the truck sat at an incline.
Yikes

Not sure about the settings you have enabled on your profile. There is nothing I can do on my end.
