- Finding your back seats soaking wet? There's a good chance it's your sharkfin antenna seal. This very raw barely edited video is here to show you how to safely drop the headliner to access the antenna bolt. I couldn't find these instructions anywhere on the internet so I figured I'd do it.
Thanks for the walkthru it was very helpful. A Tip I came across that may help you if you have to go in again or anyone else that needs to fix this, once the headliner is dropped if you have the rear window that opens reconnect the battery andopen it. Do the antenna removal/replacent from the bed thru the window. By doing this I also did not have to remove the light fixture.
ha, so the air bag location marker actually marks where bolts are. i dont need this video yet but im afraid im might so thank you for making it.
4:13 i can imagine being able to get the bolt out but how the hell would you get it back in through the brake light?
just pull out third brake and do it from there
You would think they would have a cover in the headliner to get to the antenna screws.
that would be ugly. rams are nothing but the finest automobiles made. impeccable attention to detail and fit and finish.
but seriously, with as many problems as i have had with the truck its it put together with surprising thought, its still my favorite truck i have ever owned and i have only had one non truck in my life.
You have a 2019, did you ask the dealership to fix it under warranty?
I would have considered a hole saw, and cut a hole in the headliner, and then plugged it with a nylon plug. Good work, though. Hope it stays dry for ya'!
Thank you very much for this walk-through. The dealership said it would have cost over $800 to fix because I was 1k miles over the warranty.
I think FCA is reimbursing for these repairs now.
Why not just clear rtv around the outside of the shark fin? Would look nice and clean and you wouldn’t have to go thru all this.
My back widow was leaking, not the antenna or the break light. $1800 RF Hub module fix from ram design flaws. I fixed the leak as they wanted another $1200 to replace rear window frame which they farmout to safelite. Problem is, they replace with same failed product. I did a video on my fix with permatex windshield even flow silicone.

"Next step: is drop your t20".
Hilarious dude!
Your back window frame is cracked
What's the height of the actual antenna itself? 3 inches? 4 inches?
I would have simply applied a coat of clear Silicone around the base of the shark fin style antenna.
That may work in some areas but not ideal on the roof. The issue is the antenna base is not flexible (hard plastic) but the roof metal is. So when snow loads are on it or big temperature changes occur there will be movement there and would separate an external silicone seal. It would most likely also look worse. But hey up to you, this is just my suggestion.
It’s always the 3rd brake light
well in his case it was the fucking antena. im confused with your comment? are you saying hes wrong?🤣
99.9999% of the time it’s the third brake light that’s leaking because of the crappy factory seal that flattens out and is no good after a year or 2.
Will butyl tape permanently seal it down? Or would I be able to get it back off latter if need be?
Butyl stays "gummy" just about forever so I'm sure it would be easily removed. I've removed boat parts that were assembled with butyl well over 40 years prior and they were able to be disassembled without issue.
Thanks for the info ! Could you also put a small bead of clear caulking around the shark fin ?
You could try that but the metal roof and black plastic of the fin expand and contract at much different rates in hot and cold and I imagine it would break the seal on the outside.
@@svfirefly7424 Yep, just trying to be lazy lol , guess it's the other method now
Easiest way to fix that is to sell the ram
trade one problem for another. every single new vehicle is shit so pick the one you like the most.
Did that fix it?
Yep antenna leak all fixed up!
Was he drunk or am i drunk🥳🤣🤦🏻♂️
Glad to come across this video. My 2019 Ram 1500 Bighorn is leaking as well. Going to try this fix this weekend. If not, I hate to have to trade it in.....🙁
@@crit8262 why not take it to the dealer to get it fixed? is it out of warranty?
