    Ram just extended the warranty on the seals for the fin and lights on the back. I just had my entire window replaced under this extended warranty, because I explained to them it was a seal issue. That’s what causes the cracks INSIDE the truck on the top of the window frame. Water gets inside and freezes. Check on the extended warranty, because it might be covered now.

    As the gasket breaks down the screws become loose, fit a tiny O ring around the screw threads. Sandwich the flat nylon washer between the screw head and the newly installed O ring. The nylon washer effectively becomes a backer for the O ring. The O ring will seal around the screw as well as the screw opening, preventing a leak.

    I wanted to thank you for this video, because thanks to you, I solved my problem with water infiltration at the front of my ram truck, just above the central rearview mirror. I immediately thought it was coming from the sunroof, but you were absolutely right, the problem was with the rear brake lights! I ordered a gasket from Amazon. The model I got is thicker than factory and prevents water leaking in effectively. Plus it is single-side adhesive so it is easy to replace bulb in the future and won't ruin the gasket. I live in the Paris region in France, but they sent me the gasket directly from the USA, from Florida without any problem and very quickly. I unscrewed the rear lights, and indeed the old gasket was completely damaged and flat. I scraped well to remove the old gasket and installed the new self-adhesive gasket. Since then it has snowed and rained, and I no longer have any water infiltration inside my ram! It's really awesome. Thank you with all my heart for your excellent repair tip!
    Update : in fact it has rained a lot in the last few days and I started to have water in the ram again. Water was leaking from the grab handle and sunvisor driver's side. In fact it was the small hole to the left of the sunroof that was
    clogged. I took a cotton swab to unclog the hole and vacuumed it. Now the water flows into the drain and comes out well outside the truck. Above all, do not use an air compressor or a Karscher as this risks detaching the drainage pipe from the nozzle. In this case you will have to dismantle everything to repair!

    Thank you so much for making this video. I had water dripping from the handle grip exactly as you said. I was preparing to remove the seal around my front drivers side windshield. I ordered the gasket from Amazon. Again, Thank You!

    Ours is a 2014 ram limited mega cab, with sunroof and we also have a 2006 Laredo mega cab with sunroof. both trucks week from the front door handle passenger side mainly. 2014 gets wet on the rear carpet right next to the passenger door and the headliner gets wet over the rear passenger corner. Thanks for your help. There should be a class action suit, and I recall on these rams.

    I suggest using flex seal or some brand of flashing to loosely seal the brake light hole then using a new gasket overtop. If the gasket fails you can ensure you wont have a leak again.

    If there is water near the front grab bars, make sure you check your sunroof drains! They do get plugged and water presents itself inside the cab at the front

      I've heard of leaks in the rain channels on the side just before the door edge. There are holes in the weld letting it in under the rubber seal.

    I thought my brake light seal was the issue, but it was not mine was the rear cab vents. Oh well I guess both are new now, I did the cab gasket first.

    Getting the old gasket off is an absolute PITA. Another thing I am going to add is thin urethane washers for the screws. Never can be too careful.

    Appreciate the video sir.
    Let me ask you, what’s your opinion on using or not using silicone on the gasket surface that comes in contact with the truck?
    Also did you get any water stains on your headliner? If so what did you use to clean it?
    ✌🏽

    • @ShaneBurrell1
      @ShaneBurrell1  9 місяців тому +3

      Glad you found it helpful. I don't recommend silicone. Nice clean surface and a new gasket on my 2010 and 2017 was the final fix on both Rams. I didn't get stains but others have recommended steam clean / woollite as possible solutions if you have stains from the leak.

    My 17 has got water stains upper rear passenger side. Has water inside the back window after running thru the car wash yesterday. Not sure it's my 3rd light gasket but rather the seal around the back window. Have you had this issue? I used some silicone today to seal around the passenger and driver's side rear windows. I have that gasket ordered from Amazon and plan on replacing it in a few days. Great video!

    • @ShaneBurrell1
      @ShaneBurrell1  5 місяців тому +1

      It's almost always the 3rd brake light gasket. I've seen water in those areas from it all the way up to the sunroof and front grab handle from water coming in at the 3rd brake light. The gasket they use compresses then comes loose allowing water in. Also when you put the new gasket in I don't recommend adding any sealant. The replacement is thicker than the OEM. Just be sure to clean the area.

    Thanks.

    • @ShaneBurrell1
      @ShaneBurrell1  3 місяці тому

      I haven't seen that on any rams I've owned with the leak. The bulb location and wiring is usually above where the water comes in.

      If you have a shark fin Antenna on the roof they Leak worse than the 3rd Brake light, But... You also sound like you might have a sunroof? If so you need to clean/Clear the 4 sunroof drains one or more may be clogged Be careful not to use compressed air as you could blow the drain tube off the mount and it becomes a bigger job than it needs to be. Good Luck! Its always one of those 3 Roof, Antenna or 3rd Brake light!

    • @JoshStreetDesign
      @JoshStreetDesign 7 місяців тому

      @@MidKnight70 no sunroof, But I do have this serius satellite antenna in the back corner. Interestingly enough I turnes the truck around so now that bed is pointing down in the driveway and I noticed water ran out from underneath that antenna so that must be the culprit. I tried to rip it off but could only get it up like a half inch something is really holding it on and I assume you have to take the headliner off to get to whatever's on the other side. So basically I just filled that entire thing up with silicone and all around it. Hopefully that works.
