Yep I hear ya! You in Goleta? I recognize the houses in the background of your video as such. I’m from Santa Barbara & grew up in Goleta but now live in Santa Ynez. We got tons of rain up here as well. Again appreciate the video. I just replaced the 3rd brake light and cleaned the headliner. Hoping for the best! Happy Holidays! ✌🏽
Awesome video! No one else goes into detail about these leaks so it’s been a pain trying to troubleshoot without much knowledge of Rams! Thanks for that!
Fantastic information and video. My truck is leaking now. I can't wait for the rain to stop. You saved many people hours of locating leaks. I'm definitely going to be doing some maintenance on those areas known to leak.
Thank you so much for the detailed video . That will take care of two of my leak issues. Gave me confidence to dig into it and take things apart. Appreciate this a lot.
Thank you for taking the time to teach others. I am about to get into my 3rd Gen to correct some leaks and do preventative maintenance to extend my truck's life. Thank you
I really enjoyed the content of your video! I have owned 3 Ram trucks and my son has one so this video is super helpful! I shared it with him! Thank you for all the work you did to show each issue. Deeply appreciated!!
Appreciate the video. I replaced my whole cabin light (bought it before I saw your gasket link), & both rear vents. Like you, my old one only had one flap remaining. Now off to tackle the window drains.
Have you taken care of those window drains?? I think that's the last one I have left to do. I'd appreciate any tips on cleaning those. I too have a power rear window
@@franko2026yes. A can of compressed air. Just put a the small hose into the weep holes and blew them out. I blew out the drains while my rear seats & carpets were out of the truck. It would be very difficult to get to the window drains w/the seats in. Since I have replaced my rear cabin brake light, the cabin vents, and blew out the window drains I have not had any water in the back of my cab.
@@MarAgt ok cool. So, I guess it wouldn't be a good idea to blow them out from the outside in?? That way I wouldn't have to mess with the cable and clips. Just a thought. I'm glad your dry. I learned a neat trick on making the rear seats fold down too. ua-cam.com/video/2Fna6XNYjNA/v-deo.html
Great video,. just FYI there are also two drain holes on the back of the sunroof on each side, they exit on the rear of the cab through little rubber nipples in between the cab and the bed
Thanks to all that have found other places for me to check - so far i just have the rear pass. water coming in that is obvious- and will change out the brake light and review all the other locations!
Thank you for the video, I'm having leak issues with my 2014 ram, I'm very happy you pointed out the top 7 leaks, now I know where to focus on.. at the moment I'm getting water stains in the back driver corner and on the floor. I also have the antenna on top and I know for sure water is getting in there as well,. But thank you so much, your video saved me a lot of time and headaches 😂👍
I'm fighting with leaks in my A-pillars.... thanks for showing the sunroof drains.... You also forgot 2 drains. I believe there are 2 rear drains from the sunroof as well, they hook up the same way, and run down out a drain on the rear of the cab.....
You are correct. They drain between the cab and the bed. Total pain to get to them to blow them out. I get leaks on the driver side a pillar and sometimes at the sun roof controls. My drain lines are clear but I still get them. I took my 3500 mega cab to the stealership because of the leaks. They would do a damn thing about it. Told me it’s a maintenance issue, not a warranty claim.
@@mcbone5746 I just last night pulled down parts of the headliner and made sure all 4 drains were clear and secured. It seems to happen when my truck is parked on a certain angle. I've never had it come out of the sunroof controls. I have black electrical tape over the 3rd brake light, no water gets in there. I'm at a loss. I'm going to try and see if for some reason the drains get closed off when the front doors are closed, no allowing the water to escape.
Sorry for delay in response - I figured this out after I had filmed this. The sunroof can also come out of alignment which allows too much water in. Check to make sure it is totally flush when closed and not tilted down in rear.
Only way I could get to rears was by blowing up them. I got a blow gun kit with some long bent extensions that I could maneuver into the drain holes between cab and bed. Total PITA. Also, make sure sunroof is completely flush when closed. I don't think mine were actually clogged but because it was tilted down in rear heavy rains would overwhelm the drains. Once I fixed that I finally seem to be leak free.
Great video! I have a 2014 Laramie 2500 that looks nearly Identical to yours except I have marker lights over the front window and my shark fin antenna is between them. I seen that others mentioned the rear roof drains already, I wanted to mention that you can clearly see the in your video when showing the interior rear wall. Most importantly. There are 2 more locations of drain holes in the rear slider window channel. I have the exact same one you have with the defroster and all. If you look VERY CAREFULLY under the channel you will see the metal bump out directly under those holes you showed. It’s hard to see, there’s about a 1/4” space but if you look hard you will see them. There are 2 more locations that are not under the center sliding glass but about an inch from the sliding window. The holes are not straight down but more on the back of the channel which also makes it harder for the water to drain. There are 2 holes at each location. I drilled all the driver side holes a little bigger and more toward the bottom of the channel. I also cut out a small piece of the rubber outside the truck directly under the holes so the water flowed out better and any debris will flow right out. I will do the passenger side when it gets warmer. I also sealed my 3rd brake light w black RTV and replaced my cab exhaust vents but put black RTV around the edge before popping them in. If anybody has questions about the other locations in the rear channel let me know. I took pictures.
If you stop your video at 7:34 and zoom in you can clearly see the metal bumped out above the spot welds and below the track. This is where the other drain holes are on the driver side. Look between the rear seat hooks and follow that up. They are on the passenger side also but can’t see them in your video. These bumps in the metal are the channel for the water to flow down past the window adhesive. My water wouldn’t flow good until I cut out a small portion of the bottom rubber seal outside the truck, under the window.
Good video. I'd like to add a few more leak points. There is a third drain on the back of the sunroof drip pan that goes to the back of the cab, at least on a third gen truck. Also, the cab corners can leak. All brands have a similar design.
So my hunt begins. I have staining on both sides of my headliner in the rear. Left rear bin under seat and csrpet behind it soaked. Leaking out both oh hell handles and center overhead console! Starting with brake ligjt gasket.
I've addressed all of these and my sunroof is better, but still leaks with heavy Texas rain. I don't think the drain tubes can keep up even though I cleaned them. Maybe I need a new sunroof seal and I need to figure out to how to adjust the sunroof up to seal to the roof better. My roof seems flimsy. 2015 Ram 3500 Limited
I have water stains where you have it both corners on the back roof. I didn't know where it's coming from I thought it was from top of the rooftop you are saying it's the 3d break light? Thanks Great video.
Water in the passenger side carpet usually has nothing to do with the sunroof colour tubing leaking if usually your AC evap clogged up and leaking into the cabin especially if the drain cute for that just behind the wheel well liner it's clogged up if you ever hear water sloshing around behind your - that's what this is
Jeepers you had some serious issues with water eh? Glad your figuring them out and I appreciate the informative video. I only knew about the 3rd brake light seal leak. And that’s after I purchased my Ram Laramie 3500 DRW and noticed stains in the rear headliner on both sides. I’m curious what you if you ended up using a new or different seal for the 3rd brake light and what you used to clean the headliner? Also if the stains have a tendency to bleed through again say after a little time? Any info is greatly appreciated!! ✌🏽
Just a generic seal kit off Amazon but has worked well so far. Have not actually attempted to clean stains yet though I do have a steam cleaner and will eventually see if that does the trick.
The conventional wisdom is to NOT use compressed air. If something like a seed is stuck at the top, then blowing air in from the bottom might separate the union, and you’re back to pulling the headliner. I’ve cleared a few by pushing string trimmer line or flexible braided stainless cable through. In that case, it’s better to start at the bottom of the channel.
My dealership just told me a i need a new sunroof installed $3k CAD.... 2017 1500 sport quad. I never even used the damn sunroof and now i'm getting water pooling in my rear driver tool compartment. I told them I wanted to take my truck home and test more. They were eager for me to spend $3k CAD.
Yeah, that sounds like BS. Make sure sunroof is perfectly flush when closed and that both front and rear drains on each side are clear. A new sunroof won't fix clogged drains.

Quick update - Santa Barbara just had record setting rainfall yesterday and zero leaks - so all of these fixes have held up so far.

Great video, as far as I know this is the only video that shows the drain holes. I have been trying to pinpoint leaks in a gen4 for several weeks.

Probably the rear passenger side drain of the sunroof
Couldn’t you blow air into the opening of the drain tube that’s in the door jam to blow any debris up and out of the sunroof opening?
For sure try that first and then test with water - if not flowing quickly you may need to disassemble as demonstrated.
