Thank you for posting this! I first replaced the seal on the third brake light but the leak remained. Had to spend a LOT of time carefully scraping and removing the new gasket material I'd put around the third brake light so I could get it removed for this repair. I then followed pretty much exactly what you did with the same Protex product. I've now tested it through several, significant rain storms and the leak has now been sealed! When searching on this topic, there are tons of videos and posts about this being a problem with multiple generations of RAM pickups. I love my RAM but it's unbelievable that RAM has not issued a recall for this problem.

I hope RAM engineers see this kind of videos and read people comments, so they can address it. Like you say, RAM is a cool truck, and "smal"l detailes need to be addressed

I recently received a letter from Ram informing me that " the warranty period on your vehicle's Center High Mounted Stop Lamp has been extended to 10 years/150,000 miles" for select 2019 -2021 Ram 1500 pickup vehicles. Wish I knew what method they use to fix. I might be inclined to repair myself as illustrated in this video.

@@yupthatsme9533no they don’t. My coworkers 21 Ram Big Horn has been sitting at the parking at the dealer he bought it from for over two weeks now. There is a wiring harness or whatever it is called that is shot and the dealer nor manufacturer won’t cover sh*t and told him that he needs to replace the windows before they do the work on the truck. They told him that his battery is no good and that he had to pay for a new one but that the harness would be covered. But he got the battery tested at a different dealer and it has full cells as he told the dealer he bought it from
they said that’s great but he had to pay for the harness because it isn’t covered smdh and that corporate does not COVER WIRING HARNESSES.
I also have a 21 big horn with 28k on it and I love my truck but seeing him go through this is awful.

Sadly, this didn’t work on my truck, but…Ram just recently extended the warranty on the seals on the fin and lights. I called in and let them know that the seal failed on my back window.I explained that the only way for my window frame to crack on the inside of my truck was if water was getting into the seal and expanding from freezing temps. They replaced it. I didn’t have to pay a dime. I didn’t go through the dealership, but contacted the Ram warranty service directly. They gave me a code to give the dealership to schedule the replacement.

I replaced my window at about 60-k and now at 89-k it is leaking in the corner, I can only assume it is the sealant in that corner as it has only been about 11 months since I installed a new one.

Recently purchased a 2019 5th gen. Before purchasing noted leak stain in headliner requested dealer retest for leaks. Was told it was from faulty 3rd. brake light but dealer had replaced. After retesting initally didn't leak but after several minutes it did. Discovered cracked rear slider window frame. Replaced that, was assured issue was solved. Now have owned truck around 1 month , just noticed it leaking about 1 week ago. Dealer to mail me a 3rd rear brake light. (This will be 2nd time this brake light is replaced , dealet said this will be a one time courtsey as a fix then washing their hands of issue. My advice to anyone considering RAM 5th gen. Steer far clear from these trucks with or with out water damage until RAM does a volunteer recall to address issue. It is not just that there is water damage, its all the secondary damage that could occur. I.E. no start, faulty air bags, rust, ect. P.S. contacted RAM cares (JOKE). On my 3rd gen Ram (2004), I had condensation on my windshield all the time, I was thinking it might be heater core. Turns out I had 2 of 3 common rear leak issues, the 3rd brake light and the sliding window track has a clogged drain hole, I did not have the cab vent leak (yet).
I removed 3rd brake light housing and used 3m flashing tape to waterproof the cavity behind it, having the plug for the light going up and then coming downward through the pocket I made out of flashing tape, there is a video of a guy on here that did same thing using Zip flashing tape. I then cut slightly larger drains in the bottom of the foam seal attached to the 3rd brake light housing before reinstalling it to allow more drainage. For the sliding window, I cleaned out the drain hole. Pretty easy fixes. The sliding window drain cleaning should be highlighted by the manufacturers as regular maintenance as it seems almost all brands have it.

I am truly at a loss with my leak. It is not the antenna and it is not the brake light. Filled the window gap with 3 tubes of the silicone. Looks nice and level with the window and it is still leaking. Afraid I’m gonna have to bite the bullet and call for a new back window.

So I went to Safelite, they have now put in 4 new windows. First 3 were ATI, the fourth they ordered Mopar for me. Now I still have a leak. I replaced my third brake light gasket, still have a leak. I’m thinking it’s still the window. On top of the leak that I still have, they also decided to not bolt the rear seat all the way down and didn’t connect the seat belts at all. Safelite has been a disaster.

SHARK FIN ALERT I just went through all of this with my Ram dealer. Two days with leak specialists they use and claimed it was fixed. Both times did NOTHING.
I decided to do the HOSE test to find the problem is the SHARK FIN. With the right driving rain or heave rain the water gets under it and thoght the seal. The water runs down the inside to the rear window and travels to one corner or the other, depending on the slant of your truck at the time.
It appears the leak is the brake light or bad window seals. The water is from the FIN and dripping down from the inside. Windowna dn thrid brake is fine.
I am going to try and access the 10mm bolt through the third brake light opening first to see if I can tighten it a bit.
If I can't the rear headline must be taken down and I will have them do that.
