I would love to see Wes being the SOLE reason the moon lost the fight, like, he was totally on wagstaff's side, but he fumbled everything up and ended ruining everything
to be fair, he has a lunar skin that says something along the lines of "lunar power ain't that bad" so maybe he just "agreed" with charlie just to get the short term benefits, then break it once it suits him.
I feel like wanda would side with Charlie, if not with the shadows. After all, her watches run on shadow magic. Inspection quote for a moon shard: "It would make a perfect watch crystal, if only it played nice with shadow magic."
She's also incredibly enticed by shadow magic as well if her quote for the dark sword is anything to go by "It's just a tool after all, why shouldn't I use it?" there is also the shadow plinth "Quite a nice change of pace to have shadows working for me." Though I think ultimately she would not side with either and would just stick to stealing power from the shadows
@@modageddon2742 yeah, Wanda feels like The Shadows' equivalent of Wagstaff. Not someone who wants to SIDE with their respective force but use it for power.
There's also her line for pure brilliance, "if only I could use it to power one of my watches. oh well...." As if when she first got into tempering with time, all she had was shadow magic (I've heard something about she having made a deal with a shadow creature in order to obtain forbbiden knowledge), and now she's stuck with it, but wishes she hadn't. I guess having used something other than shadows to fuel her clocks was an alternative she regrets not taking.
5:52 You completely overlooked that Wicker's secret chamber has symbols connected to the Alter though, like the amulet she uses to open the whole place. She was also pretty afraid of the terrorbeak, I don't think, she would wanr to side with them. Wicker seems like the person who would choose "light magic" over "dark magic".
Must've missed that! Thanks for the heads up :) I leaned moreso towards Shadow side since the majority of her books focus on nightmare stuff- but if I would have been a bit more open with where people could stand, would for sure put her in the "I just wanna write stuff down" camp.

genuinely i think wes would allign with the shadows purely on accident; trying their best to do good but accidentally fumbling their way into the clutches of evil judging by the fact wes got locked up in the original dont starve i imagine theyd want to oppose shadows but just couldnt due to sheer bad luck
Imagine if Wes gets his skill tree and if you were to pick either lunar or shadow, youd end up getting the opposite effect instead So if you want to be lunar aligned Wes, you have to pick the shadow alignment in his skill tree
@@thatterrariaguidenpc8054 since wes was designed to be a challenge character, i could imagine that everything in his skilltree makes him literally worse except the very last skills, so you actually have a reason to build his skilltree, make your life in the constant harder, but in the end benefitting from it. like more balloon mechanics.

@@WitnessesSay well my current theory is that Charlie doesn't see those characters as a threat (only really for wurt and wortox, they were born in the constant so surely they wont be problematic for her plans) or she doesn't know their even their
I agree with everything except Wolfgang, I feel like alliance with the Charlie is important for his character growth, because he is indeed power addicted and at the same time love his friends, his alliance will make him question if power is even worth it, would be cool to see more complicated moments
I like the different themes of both alignments. Shadow alignment has a more Victorian setting akin to Charlie, alongside the more ancient and magical side once you delve deeper... Lunar alignment has cogs and gears to show affinity to Wagstaff, but also the more organic, corrupting, possessing, and alien features of the thing that hangs in the sky.
i agree with most of these, but as a wanda main; i don't think she trusts either parties. she has lines that indicate she's been through timelines that both charlie, wagstaff, the shadows and alter took over and doesn't like any of them. though she would prefer non-shadow parties but i think she's smart enough to know that both are extremely dangerous and not trustworthy and could very easily betray her (this is just my thoughts that stem from her lines about certain shadow, charlie, lunar, wagstaff items or objects)
Absolutely agree with most of what you said :) For the sake of the video though, I wanted to keep neutral parties to a minimum, since a lot of them would slide into them (Wortox, Webber, Wanda, etc) but for sure! I don't feel like she'd trust anything from this horrible dimension
Based on what's said in the video, the choice would actually be less simple then it may seem, yes Wagstaff knew his human side's father, but they'd have to make a truce that nothing would happen to the spiders for the spider side to (begrudgingly) agree, Wagstaff is also part of the reason the 2 sides became 1 so that's a good reason for both sides to not like Wagstaff, but if he can free Webber, potentially reuniting him with his family as well, then they could still work with him even if they still resent him.
I gave my own thought on the matter a while ago, and here are some things I want to note There is the slight chance that Maxwell would join either lunar side for two different reasons: to help Charlie (like Winona), and/or because he is aware of what "Them" are truly capable of, meaning that if he joins either shadow side, it could spell doom for everyone involved. But considering what you pointed out in video, plus the fact that he still use shadow puppets (that aggravate Greater Gestalts), I find the chances of a lunar aligned Maxwell very low... still possible tho Despite WX-78 showing a lot of interest to the lunar, they may be tempted to join the pure shadow side (specifically "Them" to avoid another fleshsack), be it to spite Wagstaff or to lower the interactions needed between the two Webber seems to be (almost) as scared as Wolfgang, so he were to think for himself instead of going with most of other grown ups, he might join Wagstaff's endeavors, but only if it were MANDATORY to pick a path I believe that if anyone experienced enough (like maybe a amateur scientist, a former king, a librarian or a time traveler) were to properly explain how things work, Walter would DEFINITELY join the Lunar side. He's just a selfless boy with a golden heart, and if he knew the context of what's going on, the shadow side would certainly creep him out compared to the more tame lunar side... but that's just wishful thinking on my part Wes... well... Wes might actually go with whichever side gets more survivors... or maybe he'd go full independent, not agreeing with Charlie, Wagstaff, Then or Alter
I'm a big fan for shadows having a familial inheritance to them, and since Wendy has a lot of potions regarding shadow magic and her uncle being practically part of the shadows, I doubly think it might be a hereditary thing too. While I know she can choose sides in the game, I'd think it'd be cool if she also had a knack for shadow magic like Maxwell in game! It also makes me curious about Willow. Being reminded she was haunted by shadow monsters as a child - does she have family ties she doesn't even know about?? I don't think it's a far-off possibility, considering my belief that family is a big aspect to dsts story(the survivor's being found family, and family that's been left behind or abandoned, I think there's a lot of symbolism looking deeper into it) I think it'd add a nice layer to why Maxwell and others can be so attune to shadow magic, even naturally :)
All of these are super fair and well done. On top on what's said, there's also the fact Willow spits at anything that's cold. The Moon Caller Staff and Endothermic fires are probably the only cold items (and ice cream..) that she doesn't outright hate, but all the lunar stuff otherwise seems to annoy her or outright disturb her, and she seems pretty openly impressed by anything 'cool' - which shadow fire is. Although Lunar Bernie fighting off shadows for her could make sense, shadows were never her enemy. And it kind of feels like he could have been a shadow entity all along... not to mention her comfort with insanity, the Night Light, and her lack of fear of Charlie--or anything else really ("I'm not afraid of you!"). Shadow / Charlie's world also represents that independence and freedom from crappy people for her. I could imagine her being the next Charlie, even, assuming she that always feels in control about it. Wagstaff is just another dork who probably represents the gist of what she has no use for anymore. I'm just kind of projecting and trying to justify my choices, since I'm having a lot of fun with Shadow Bernie+Burning Bernie (Shadow Fire also very cool) despite the Lunar stuff being arguably so much more convenient and powerful at times (not to mention what it seems EVERYONE prefers). ...Although maybe in the end she'd pick based off what her Constant friends pick, because there's that side of her you see that kind of comes off like she's having fun and making some [friends] and the real power for her was the Constant friends she made along the way (!!) (As a side note, I'm surprised she isn't obsessed with endothermic fire and cold drinks. I get that she likes to burn stuff, but overheating is the worst IRL. From a Florida girl perspective, Banana Shake is just as good as Ice Cream and both would compliment that icy fire so you don't have to pull away from your triple bonfires during a summer night!)
Thank you! And yeah ultimately I feel like they'll all pick whatever their closest friends and allies would pick :) It doesn't get anywhere near hot where I'm from but I'd kill for an endothermic fire around this time of year too..
I noticed that both sides of them are depicted as an eye and 6 lashes, so they might be related as other than the eye shape, the both sides of them have the same features
i always felt like wilson is more of a wild card maybe its im attacthed to that old art of wilson and maxwell playing chess and the fact that in that klei animation he wasnt on Charlies chessboard so i view dst as sort of a 3 way chess match it also helps that chess pieces can be like a glass greenish color so for me its charlie (black pieces) vs alter (green pieces) vs wilson and or wagstaff as a stort of an underdog with the white pieces ofc but idk its just my own head cannon imo
I feel like Wanda would be shadows, because her clocks seem to be shadow magic, especially the alarming clock. I don't think she'd give that up. Love the video!!
I think wickerbottom might choose the lunar side, idk if it's wagstaff or alter. She might choose the scientist simply cause he would be another person that seeks knowledge. Her quotes on the crafting stations imply that she mistrusts and dislikes shadow magic. I think Webber and Walter might go with Charlie, just to follow Wendy. Since both Walter and Webber seem to like Abigail and Webber is def best friends with Wendy, which makes sense since they seem to have been the kids who were in the constant the longest. And Walter will follow Webber.
I think Winona would go along with her sister until she realizes Charlie is not planning to leave. Then her "I know what's best for you" mode would kick in and she'd go to her boss for help.
Am I watching this before I'm supposed to? Perhaps Anyways, I like your reasonings for the alignments, even for the more "on the fence" characters. I feel like Wickerbottom *might* be tempted to side with Alter, due to the promisse of "enlightment", but would go with the shadows ultmately. Still, I think she is one of the most ambiguous out of the non-ambiguous characters, if that makes any sense
I actually think Wanda would side with either the shadows or Charlie. Even though the sadows are constantly chasing her, it is also thanks their power that she has been able to craft her magical watches and escape for as long as she has. A lot of her quotes and her overall character shows that she is obsessed with shadow magic, so I don't think siding with the moon side would even be possible for her.
Great vid! Beyond alignments, in all honesty I really feel Winona should have been the main character of DST due to her whole context intertwined with the lore, she really should be given more protagonism.
playing warly right now and many of his quotes ask anything moon related to help him get to his maman, example of a gestalt: "Can you... get me home to dear maman?" maybe he'd chose alter with the hope that alter would free warly from the constant somehow
considering how low wes sanity is and being constantly harassed by the shadows due to it, I think he'll probably go to Wagstaff side since, just like Warly, it's the closest thing to getting out of the Constant he'll be.
Wanda has expressed interest in using the moon's power for her clocks, lamenting what could have been had she learned of it before nightmare fuel. I could see her siding with Alter _maybe,_ but Wagstaff is more on the 'use the moon's power in concrete mechanical ways' side, so that makes sense. Charlie having answers and helping her understand the shadows more is interesting, though. I'm extremely curious to know what her skill tree will be like, and I do hope she has both a shadow and lunar branch. I wonder what new clocks or other devices may be made?
I think Webber would be more inclined to side with Wagstaff given how in his short, we see that Wagstaff was a family friend or at least an acquaintance to his father. Although as you said, given what the moon does to spiders, perhaps Webber's other half wouldn't want to pick the same side
I'm a Wendy main, and I feel that you're correct, but I think Abigail will side with the moon while she will side with the shadows. They are opposites. Maybe when we pick sides, the other will pick the opposite.
wandas quotes for lunar alighned items like pure briliance and moonglass hint at her wanting to make another pact with an other worldly entity, and she is aware of the fact that the price of her power was being chased by the shadows, but again, from her quotes she is scared of what charlie will do with the shadows power, so i'd say she is obligated to work with the shadows, tempted to be with the lunar, half sidedly helps wagstaff out of curiousity, and is worried about what charlie will do
About willow, she probably likes the shadows because they are the source of her love for fire, since they burned the orphanage that she was from! Which since i believe it was a shitty place, that wouldve been an amazing thing for her. Thats why she might be fond to it
My god. This is what ive been thinking about ever since Wormwood got his skill tree. Im so glad someone went in depth into the potential survivor schism we may have to look forward to! Very well made video as well!
As someone who's obsessed with Wendy I've actually always personally been an enjoyer of lunar aligned Wendy, as while I do think actually aligning with alter would end poorly for her and she would have regrets, I also feel like generally speaking Wendy is actually quite allured to a lot of lunar stuff and the concepts behind the lunar side as a whole. This is mainly a difference in how I view Wendy's edginess tho, as I kind of feel like it was born out of a feeling of being completely trapped in her pain, with pre constant her being seemingly left to grieve to herself, and then later being well. Trapped in the constant. Longing for an escape from the pain is something that seems to be a running theme in Wendy's dialogue too, which all in all makes me feel like she actually would be pretty suceptable to being influenced by alter. At the end of the day, she's just a kid who feels trapped at rock bottom, and while I think she'd be scared to lean into the false hope alter brings, I think that a hypothetical lunar aligned Wendy would follow alter much more genuinely than a shadow aligned Wendy would follow either the shadows or Charlie. Oh also if I may be mildly insane for a second and try to characterise Abigail a character with no dialogue and mostly second hand characterisation, I very much enjoy the idea that she would personally side with the shadows if she could. Largely because what the shadows offer is pure power, and I think Abby would be allured by that for the sake of protecting Wendy. I just think it'd be a fun dynamic if they would be tempted by different sides for each other's sake
I do bellieve that just like they can in game, the characters would switch their alliegiances from time to time. In the end, the goal for the vast majority of them is to go home. I believe that they'd do whatever brings them closer, be it working for charlie or wagstaff.
Honestly I feel like both Alter and the shadows are pretty evil, I do still think quite afew characters would align with either side but I think that most if not all characters would align with a the survivors instead of either side. The only characters I can really see aligning with either side are the more evil characters or the more ignorant characters
Different sides of evil :) They don't need to be clear cut Good Vs Evil, and I'm so thankful klei went in the direction of making every side and character ambigous when it comes to what's the morally correct choice- if there's any at all.
3:48 It's also worth noting she probably wouldn't side with Charlie, even though they're sisters, after seeing what she's become. It's been a while since I watched the Winona short, but I remember her looking shocked when Charlie betrayed her. With such deep ties, something like that would cut just as deep, if not deeper. Also, Winona would almost certainly follow the saying "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the waters of the womb" meaning she'd side with Wagstaff over Charlie even if Charlie wasn't evil.
I believe if Winona were to bring charlie to Wagstaff, hoping he would have a solution, he would instead ignore her pleas. This would cause Winona's image of her boss to shatter and she would then side with charlie. This is all based on my idea that Wagstaff is a self-centered character, only helping others if he can see an outcome that would benefit him.
Wanda's orology depends on nightmare fuel so much that I seriously cannot think she'd go for a lunar alignment; if anything she'd double down on nightmares for even more twisted stuff; she said it herself, she'd use brilliance and other moon glass items if they played well with her clocks however I am invested in seeing what Klei will add to her skill tree to incentivise players to align with lunar items, if they do at all
Based on what I've seen, Walter is oblivious and easily influenced, but his dog is terrified of the shadows, and when the dog can get him to pay attention he protects Walter, so the dog may have the greatest influence over Walter, which would probably lead him to whatever is least dangerous mechanically. Wes I hear is actually viable when wearing the shadow hood, and given how hard it is for him to survive he could be tempted (his animation does show him to be altruistic though... not that that matters, the sides consist of the origin of the monsters that have given the survivors a hard time for the longest, an alien force that also spawns dangerous things, a sketchy glitch man that tricks people into doing and inviting dangerous things, and the shadow monster that tries to eat you whenever the lights go out)
May I ask what the major themes, pros, and cons are on each side? I want to know how I would align as well and need more info. With what little I know about, I would choose the shadows directly, enjoying the ancient culture they have and seeing the slightly insectoid designs of the shadows and get a little body envious.
Then there’s me, the DnD guy, who turned Maxwell into a DnD character. He’s a Shadar Kai, so he’s native to the nope dimension. And with the connection his species has with the Raven Queen, a lot of things have a direct parallel. The problem is, the Raven Queen got possessed by an eldritch horror and the end game objective is to figure out how to remove the parasite without killing the host.
I'm not sure about Wendy & Webber. We can see her fighting against Crystal Deerclops/Possessed Varg in Cinematics. She got no positive quotes about Charlie, so it's more likely that she wants to leave the Constant. About Webber, I think they would follow Wendy, because she is their only friend
Thanks for reminding me about that! Personally I feel she's so against that book because she knows how dangerous it is, especially with all her other books- and whilst I feel like she would totally be into studying both of them... shadow librarian witch grandma owns :) You've given me more to think about tho!
Another thing with Wes, in his short, “A 1st for Everything”, he dreams of power with his balloon mech. He wouldn’t even need to speak of the horrors he’s caused.
Walter would definitely side with Charlie, he’s the only character that doesn’t believe in the constant. He’d think Charlie was putting him through tests to earn new Badges, and Charlie would happily take advantage of him. I think Wortox would side with the shadows since it would give him power. Winona wouldn’t side with Charlie, it would have to be Charlie sides with Winona as she just wants to get Charlie out of the Constant. Wurt is my Favorite character.
Nice video! Instantly though of DnD char alignments, or similar to: Evil (Charlie) - Neutral/Chaotic Evil (Shadow) - Neutral - Neutral Good (Wagstaff Don't Starve) - Good (Altar)
I could see wortox constantly switching who he's siding with based on how "fun" eatch side is at the moment. He also doesn't care in the slightest what happens to the constant as he can just leave whenever he wants so most likely he would go with whatever is the most entertaining
I don't even really understand what Charlies' motives even are. She has absolute control over the Constant, she keeps pulling people in, and those people keep opposing her. In every animation featuring Charlie, her machinations are either directly opposed by the cast, or what she does places everyone and the world itself at great risk, and must be beaten back with a pointed stick. But she makes no attempt to escape, and even grants the cast lifespans expanded well beyond what they might otherwise have had. Obviously, almost everyone except maxwell just wants to escape the Constant, but, does Charlie? Why is she amassing power? Why does she keep increasing her own opposition? Why is this amassing of power depicted as evil and bad, yet she's also seemingly standing against something even worse? Is she purposefully villianous, to give the cast a reason to arm up and learn to control these ancient magicks, or is she genuinely trying to kill them? How can any member of the cast stand beside her, besides Maxwell, who knew her, and who knows the power of the shadows, when they have no idea what her goals are? Really, these people have terminal cases of "inability to communicate".
I honestly agree with literally everything here in this video, even with the most unexpected characters. But the only one I see not wanting to join the shadows or Charlie, would be Webber, sure, he doesn’t like the idea of being mutated by the moon like a few of the other spiders, but knowing Webber, I doubt he’d side with anything remotely evil or dark, mostly because of two reasons. First what he says when he’s plundered into pitch black darkness “We can’t see! I want my nightlight.” (I’m not sure if I got the quote correct), and secondly, by his short, despite not paying much attention at what his father and Wagstaff were talking about, I’m sure he’d at least catch a glimpse and somewhat understand where the whole spider incident came from, and also, knowing what Wagstaff is capable of, I wouldn’t doubt if Webber thought he knew a way to help them out of the Constant. So my final thought would be that Webber would most likely side with Wagstaff out of all people. Anywho, excuse me for the essay, but awesome vid! I was waiting to see if anyone would talk about this matter.
See the thing that makes it rather difficult to actually choose a specific alignment for most of the survivors is that it's honestly a lot more interesting to just speculate that they really could go either way like in game. Like some alignments are just down right obvious for certain characters like Maxwell and Wormwood, but for most of the survivors you really could make a decent argument for them choosing either sides under certain circumstances, there are many interesting possibilities for why and how they would end up on either side. Right now it's a little too open ended for a lot of them to guaranteed a specific placement, and it's way more fun to just believe they could end up with either. So until Klei tells us otherwise, I'm going with the in game answer of "whatever the hell is more convenient for them at the time."
I wanted to pick a side with everyone, and almost went with no side/any side with a few characters :) But I agree fully! Though I feel he'll be a bit more sympathetic when things start getting a bit too evil for his liking
for an actual serious placement for wes: either the moon or wagstaff, his backstory shows he means well but keeps bringing misfortune to himself, his misfortune is fortunate to everyone else around fr
Webber might me more inclined to help Charlie or the Nightmares just because the spider side probably really hates Wagstaff. Imagine being kidnapped and taken and like prodded with a staff and stuff and then given to some random dude on a farm. The spider side is also weary of helping Wagstaff, saying smth like "I don't mind, but he isn't so sure."
i wouldve assumed wanda would side with the shadows directly because she's already basically stealing magic from them and doesnt seem to have any important interactions with lunar stuff though i do expect at some point soon that she gets something big that has to do with scraps and such so maybe... i just cant see her doing the lunar side stuff because she's already so shadow themed. i also think wortox would side with charlie because theyre just evil buddies. realistically, wes wouldnt side with shadows in any way, because he was trapped by maxwell and had a generally bad time with shadows already. would probably be with wagstaff
Very fun video!! I definitely would love to see more lore videos! :D Ieagree with most of your picks, except I don't think Willow would align with shadow, seeing how one of Bernie's main things is fighting off the nightmares when insane. It's simple really: Willow is fire aligned. She has her own category just because lol
I personally think that wanda would side with Charlie as wanda already uses shadow magic for much of her inventions. Also she see the shadows as "a necessary evil" when she examines nightmare fuel.
Your logic and reasoning is flawless, its just too good. I 100% agree with everything up until Wortox. With Wendy, I was actually thinking the shadows but you brought up a really good point with Charlie. For Wortox, I can see him more on the shadow side but still possibly lunar, but I agree that he wouldn't really take sides. For Webber, I agree with Charlie purely for no reason other than Wendy. For Walter, I more or less feel like he'd be with Wagstaff but Charlie could make sense. And Wes, uh...Wes I feel like would just accidentally take the opposite side of what he wants to choose, but it's hard to tell what Wes' opinions are, just that his good intentions are overridden by bad luck. Loved the video, though.
I think the option to align with neither should also be available, at least for the story itself. Plenty of these people are like Wolfgang, and have no real reason to side with anyone, he might help wagstaff but he’s most likely just going to choose whoever his nearest human friend is at any given time. He’d just help the survivors at all times.
But with Winona we know with the new skill tree that perhaps she is more likely to go with Charly because it makes her immune to the night because she is her sister.(sorry, I used a translator)
Everyone else: (Thoughtful and well organized reasons for why they side with who they might.) Wes: Nightmares, dead, soulless eyes. Everyone watching when Wes is mentioned: Fair. Wes himself: 😢
Personally, I think Charlie could bring warly to her side, since the most deep wish of warly is to cure his mother's alzhaimer, and since it's an incurable syndrom, Charlie could easily persuade him into her side, for the chance of curing his mother and reuniting with her
as someone very invested in wanda's lore, i feel like i have to disagree with the assessment of working with wagstaff; her quotes seem to suggest she knows VERY well why the shadows chase her, on account of a "deal with a mysterious entity" (implied by her examination quote for a Gestalt). she also frequently describes shadow magic as a necessary evil, feeling as though it is a tool to use to her advantage (nightmare fuel and other shadow magic item examination quotes). her clocks do run on its power, after all - without them, she would've died a very long time ago. she also describes moon magic not working well with shadow magic. for these reasons, i do agree she likely wouldn't side with altar, but i feel like she wouldn't side with wagstaff either. she's a very solitary and self-driven woman, not really wanting anyone's help or to frequently help others if not for her own benefit (with some exceptions), also implying she wouldn't side with charlie either. she just isn't interested in that kind of give-and-take partnership. a truce could be likely as you said, though! i'd honestly say she's already chosen the path of the shadows, being in a similar position to WX and wickerbottom where she is not loyal to them for the sake of it, but merely for its use as a tool. (sorry for the essay lol - she's my fav character :D love her a lot) other than that, this is an awesome video with some really good insights!!! you really hit the nail on all of these, they're very good evaluations. (i also really really appreciate the right pronoun use for WX... thank you, it isn't commonplace and it doesn't go unnoticed
I agree with all of them except for wortox considering he literally eats souls and is a bit monstrous I feel like he would be a part of the shadow side and I don’t feel like Wagstaff would interest him that much
I’m pretty sure all of the kids would realize something is up and would band together to figure it out. After all, Wendy and Webber are besties, and Walter and Wurt became friends with them after they joined the other survivors.
I would love to see Wes being the SOLE reason the moon lost the fight, like, he was totally on wagstaff's side, but he fumbled everything up and ended ruining everything

judging by the fact wes got locked up in the original dont starve i imagine theyd want to oppose shadows but just couldnt due to sheer bad luck
Failguying his way into godhood,,,
Imagine if Wes gets his skill tree and if you were to pick either lunar or shadow, youd end up getting the opposite effect instead
So if you want to be lunar aligned Wes, you have to pick the shadow alignment in his skill tree

We do need to remember that Wilson doesn't have a chess piece on the chess board in the Maxwell short
Oooo thanks for reminding me :o
Neither did Webber
Webber does whatever they want epic win!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t think its that significant because neither did wanda, wortox, or wurt.
Wx78 also loves the moon because it brutally mutates living life, which he despises, so it is incresibly pleasuring for him to see.
This pleases the Machine
WX’s true alignment, plutonium
I like the different themes of both alignments.
Shadow alignment has a more Victorian setting akin to Charlie, alongside the more ancient and magical side once you delve deeper...
Lunar alignment has cogs and gears to show affinity to Wagstaff, but also the more organic, corrupting, possessing, and alien features of the thing that hangs in the sky.
i agree with most of these, but as a wanda main; i don't think she trusts either parties.
she has lines that indicate she's been through timelines that both charlie, wagstaff, the shadows and alter took over and doesn't like any of them.
though she would prefer non-shadow parties but i think she's smart enough to know that both are extremely dangerous and not trustworthy and could very easily betray her
(this is just my thoughts that stem from her lines about certain shadow, charlie, lunar, wagstaff items or objects)
Absolutely agree with most of what you said :) For the sake of the video though, I wanted to keep neutral parties to a minimum, since a lot of them would slide into them (Wortox, Webber, Wanda, etc) but for sure! I don't feel like she'd trust anything from this horrible dimension
I think webber would go with wagstaff as he knew his father and gave him the spider. But since he knows wagstaff the most he may trust him
Based on what's said in the video, the choice would actually be less simple then it may seem, yes Wagstaff knew his human side's father, but they'd have to make a truce that nothing would happen to the spiders for the spider side to (begrudgingly) agree, Wagstaff is also part of the reason the 2 sides became 1 so that's a good reason for both sides to not like Wagstaff, but if he can free Webber, potentially reuniting him with his family as well, then they could still work with him even if they still resent him.
Luckily Shadow Mommy makes the decision pretty easy for many.

I gave my own thought on the matter a while ago, and here are some things I want to note
There is the slight chance that Maxwell would join either lunar side for two different reasons: to help Charlie (like Winona), and/or because he is aware of what "Them" are truly capable of, meaning that if he joins either shadow side, it could spell doom for everyone involved. But considering what you pointed out in video, plus the fact that he still use shadow puppets (that aggravate Greater Gestalts), I find the chances of a lunar aligned Maxwell very low... still possible tho
Despite WX-78 showing a lot of interest to the lunar, they may be tempted to join the pure shadow side (specifically "Them" to avoid another fleshsack), be it to spite Wagstaff or to lower the interactions needed between the two
Webber seems to be (almost) as scared as Wolfgang, so he were to think for himself instead of going with most of other grown ups, he might join Wagstaff's endeavors, but only if it were MANDATORY to pick a path
I believe that if anyone experienced enough (like maybe a amateur scientist, a former king, a librarian or a time traveler) were to properly explain how things work, Walter would DEFINITELY join the Lunar side. He's just a selfless boy with a golden heart, and if he knew the context of what's going on, the shadow side would certainly creep him out compared to the more tame lunar side... but that's just wishful thinking on my part
Wes...
I don't think it's a far-off possibility, considering my belief that family is a big aspect to dsts story(the survivor's being found family, and family that's been left behind or abandoned, I think there's a lot of symbolism looking deeper into it) I think it'd add a nice layer to why Maxwell and others can be so attune to shadow magic, even naturally :)
gonna get you for the next lore video :)
I'm just kind of projecting and trying to justify my choices, since I'm having a lot of fun with Shadow Bernie+Burning Bernie (Shadow Fire also very cool) despite the Lunar stuff being arguably so much more convenient and powerful at times (not to mention what it seems EVERYONE prefers).
...Although maybe in the end she'd pick based off what her Constant friends pick, because there's that side of her you see that kind of comes off like she's having fun and making some [friends] and the real power for her was the Constant friends she made along the way (!!)
(As a side note, I'm surprised she isn't obsessed with endothermic fire and cold drinks.
Good eye :) pun unintended
i always felt like wilson is more of a wild card maybe its im attacthed to that old art of wilson and maxwell playing chess and the fact that in that klei animation he wasnt on Charlies chessboard so i view dst as sort of a 3 way chess match it also helps that chess pieces can be like a glass greenish color so for me its charlie (black pieces) vs alter (green pieces) vs wilson and or wagstaff as a stort of an underdog with the white pieces ofc but idk its just my own head cannon imo
Then her "I know what's best for you" mode would kick in and she'd go to her boss for help.
i would love to see more lore videos this one was great, its cool to see peoples takes on this kinda stuff especially with the more subjective aspects
I would love to do more like this!! I'm so glad to hear people are liking it
Am I watching this before I'm supposed to? Perhaps
Anyways, I like your reasonings for the alignments, even for the more "on the fence" characters. I feel like Wickerbottom *might* be tempted to side with Alter, due to the promisse of "enlightment", but would go with the shadows ultmately. Still, I think she is one of the most ambiguous out of the non-ambiguous characters, if that makes any sense
Ngl i want Warly do go insane, he's an accomplished butcher after all
but... mamam :(
no
I actually think Wanda would side with either the shadows or Charlie.
Hopefully with her insight tree being next, we'll get more lore with her :)
@@BiddoBamss Hope so!!
playing warly right now and many of his quotes ask anything moon related to help him get to his maman,
example of a gestalt: "Can you... get me home to dear maman?"
maybe he'd chose alter with the hope that alter would free warly from the constant somehow
Webber would side with wagstaf as he reminds the boy of his father
What about Don't Starve exclusive characters?? I wanna know who Wagstaff would side with!
Wortox loves controlled chaos, he enjoys whimsy, pranks, not cruelty
So true :)
considering how low wes sanity is and being constantly harassed by the shadows due to it, I think he'll probably go to Wagstaff side since, just like Warly, it's the closest thing to getting out of the Constant he'll be.
Maybe when we pick sides, the other will pick the opposite.
wandas quotes for lunar alighned items like pure briliance and moonglass hint at her wanting to make another pact with an other worldly entity, and she is aware of the fact that the price of her power was being chased by the shadows, but again, from her quotes she is scared of what charlie will do with the shadows power, so i'd say she is obligated to work with the shadows, tempted to be with the lunar, half sidedly helps wagstaff out of curiousity, and is worried about what charlie will do
I think Wolfgang would probably be shadow aligned since he gets his powers from them
About willow, she probably likes the shadows because they are the source of her love for fire, since they burned the orphanage that she was from!
I mean, if these two beings are somehow enemies, I think the best they can do is putting these two in a fight while they avoid the conflict XD.
Wagstaff is worse them both
Another epic video from BiddoBams! Thank you for making content out of passion! ❤
Thank you so much!! :)
Webber joins Charlie because Wendy invokes the power of Friendship Bracelet
*holds up bracelet*
"Does this mean nothing to you, Webber?"
I see WX and Wormwood as sort of begrudging friends, so the fact that they are both lunar-aligned actually makes a lot of sense.
Charlie, I'd be safe from all the monsters and she could prob make the constant better
Wanda's orology depends on nightmare fuel so much that I seriously cannot think she'd go for a lunar alignment; if anything she'd double down on nightmares for even more twisted stuff; she said it herself, she'd use brilliance and other moon glass items if they played well with her clocks
however I am invested in seeing what Klei will add to her skill tree to incentivise players to align with lunar items, if they do at all
Based on what I've seen, Walter is oblivious and easily influenced, but his dog is terrified of the shadows, and when the dog can get him to pay attention he protects Walter, so the dog may have the greatest influence over Walter, which would probably lead him to whatever is least dangerous mechanically.
One side has an old man and a moon that kills you. The other side has goth mommy who bites you in the dark. I rest my case.
Well, wurt calls webber a friend too so its not just wendy.
I can definetly see that :) I was really stumped with what to do with those lot so I'm open to ideas :)
I think Wickerbottom wouldn't side with the shadows. Look at her quote for Codex Umbra, and at her curiosity regarding lunar magic.
Thanks for reminding me about that! Personally I feel she's so against that book because she knows how dangerous it is, especially with all her other books- and whilst I feel like she would totally be into studying both of them... shadow librarian witch grandma owns :) You've given me more to think about tho!
Shadow wilson will be the final boss 100%
He was there since the start...
I think Wanda would pick Charlie, becouse she really cares about power and is suspicious about Wagstaf.
Another thing with Wes, in his short, “A 1st for Everything”, he dreams of power with his balloon mech. He wouldn’t even need to speak of the horrors he’s caused.
I do remember a short for the moon where Wurt makes an appearance with the other merms. They seemed triggered though by its energy
Hmmmmmmmmmmm
Is the constant a form of backrooms?
I'm surprised Winona came so early on, if ambiguity was to come later. I could see her going either way.

Nice video! Instantly though of DnD char alignments, or similar to:
Evil (Charlie) - Neutral/Chaotic Evil (Shadow) - Neutral - Neutral Good (Wagstaff Don't Starve) - Good (Altar)
i dont think altar is good, id say neutral or lawful-neutral at best
5:33 id like to point out him examining a dead butterfly. To buff this argument.
But if shadow Wilson is canon, how does that fit into the lore?
Alter? Charlie? Nahh return to Wonkey!
Also wag staff was the one that gave webers dad the spider so he definently wouldent side with wag staff
I was waiting to see if anyone would talk about this matter.
true and real
I Hope that Maxwell will have reversed wormwood three, by that i mean i Hope he will be ale to team only with the darkness
wortox would wildcard and kinda meddle with both to see which is funner to him
I wanted to pick a side with everyone, and almost went with no side/any side with a few characters :) But I agree fully! Though I feel he'll be a bit more sympathetic when things start getting a bit too evil for his liking
for an actual serious placement for wes: either the moon or wagstaff, his backstory shows he means well but keeps bringing misfortune to himself, his misfortune is fortunate to everyone else around fr
I think Wes is gonna be the sides fighting to NOT have him
He is an active detriment to whatever side hes on
can't wait for the wes skill tree with lunar ballons that instantly create 100 gunpowder explosions
I would love to see a video with the same concept but you go over the ds dlc characters like wilba and warbucks
I could imagine wafstaff manipulating webber to join his side, and telling the child part of webber that he knows his fater and things like that.
i wouldve assumed wanda would side with the shadows directly because she's already basically stealing magic from them and doesnt seem to have any important interactions with lunar stuff
though i do expect at some point soon that she gets something big that has to do with scraps and such so maybe...
i just cant see her doing the lunar side stuff because she's already so shadow themed.
i also think wortox would side with charlie because theyre just evil buddies.
realistically, wes wouldnt side with shadows in any way, because he was trapped by maxwell and had a generally bad time with shadows already. would probably be with wagstaff
Very fun video!! I definitely would love to see more lore videos! :D Ieagree with most of your picks, except I don't think Willow would align with shadow, seeing how one of Bernie's main things is fighting off the nightmares when insane. It's simple really: Willow is fire aligned. She has her own category just because lol
now we need a shipwrecked and hamlet video about this
I personally think that wanda would side with Charlie as wanda already uses shadow magic for much of her inventions. Also she see the shadows as "a necessary evil" when she examines nightmare fuel.
Walter shadow allied probably, bcs his dog doesnt get scared of dark shadow man
I like this new type of video you’re doing you should keep doing it
my guess would be that webber would side with wickerbottom as she has seemingly taken on a motherly role to the young of the constant.
Duude, 4 sides would be great and that'll bring interesting skill trees and gameplay mechanics
I wanted to avoid "None" for the video :) But I absolutely agree with you!!
I can't wait for wanda's. i want the lunar clocks so bad and a de-ager watch
But with Winona we know with the new skill tree that perhaps she is more likely to go with Charly because it makes her immune to the night because she is her sister.(sorry, I used a translator)
Everyone else: (Thoughtful and well organized reasons for why they side with who they might.)
Wes: Nightmares, dead, soulless eyes.
Everyone watching when Wes is mentioned: Fair.
Wes himself: 😢
I have a creeping suspicion that the shadows might be controlled by another one of Them.
Personally, I think Charlie could bring warly to her side, since the most deep wish of warly is to cure his mother's alzhaimer, and since it's an incurable syndrom, Charlie could easily persuade him into her side, for the chance of curing his mother and reuniting with her
Charlie is my queen and honestly she would do something like that no strings attached because we love her
as someone very invested in wanda's lore, i feel like i have to disagree with the assessment of working with wagstaff; her quotes seem to suggest she knows VERY well why the shadows chase her, on account of a "deal with a mysterious entity" (implied by her examination quote for a Gestalt). she also frequently describes shadow magic as a necessary evil, feeling as though it is a tool to use to her advantage (nightmare fuel and other shadow magic item examination quotes). her clocks do run on its power, after all - without them, she would've died a very long time ago. she also describes moon magic not working well with shadow magic. for these reasons, i do agree she likely wouldn't side with altar, but i feel like she wouldn't side with wagstaff either. she's a very solitary and self-driven woman, not really wanting anyone's help or to frequently help others if not for her own benefit (with some exceptions), also implying she wouldn't side with charlie either. she just isn't interested in that kind of give-and-take partnership. a truce could be likely as you said, though! i'd honestly say she's already chosen the path of the shadows, being in a similar position to WX and wickerbottom where she is not loyal to them for the sake of it, but merely for its use as a tool. (sorry for the essay lol - she's my fav character :D love her a lot)
other than that, this is an awesome video with some really good insights!!! you really hit the nail on all of these, they're very good evaluations. (i also really really appreciate the right pronoun use for WX... thank you, it isn't commonplace and it doesn't go unnoticed
Thank you so much for the insight and kind words :D
I agree with all of them except for wortox considering he literally eats souls and is a bit monstrous I feel like he would be a part of the shadow side and I don’t feel like Wagstaff would interest him that much
I’m pretty sure all of the kids would realize something is up and would band together to figure it out. After all, Wendy and Webber are besties, and Walter and Wurt became friends with them after they joined the other survivors.
